Josh Smith, Kirk Fletcher, and Robben Ford all in one week! Wow! Truefire is on fire!
Sincerely one of the finest guitar players of all time. I was following Robben since his Yellow Jackets project
Robben Ford is just a great Master. Brilliant.....sound... thanks man....
everytime i listen to Robben Ford play i get a little better at playing from just hearing the guy.
After 40 years of playing...quite decently I might say...it just reminds me of how far I have to go still...and how there will just not be enough years...but life is the journey, right? This makes the journey better.
What a great comment!
Is true
100% right. He's a chosen one...the great Zen-Master of music.
Yeah, he's great at encouraging us even though some of have been playing for ages. Learned a hell of a lot from him
I am more of a lead guy and even when he is playing rythm he is better at lead than me...
Love his blues style... it's like Jazz and blues at the same time. Usually when a Jazz guy does blues it is Jazz with blues overtone... this was actually Blues but with the sophistication of Jazz
This musician sounds so fantastic and that guitar actually sounds like A GUITAR 🎸!!
It doesn't matter if you come from rock, country, blues, jazz, metal, funk... Robben Ford is always the meeting point. Thanks Robben for your music!
Some of the nicest comping I've ever heard. Truefire is such a powerful tool for learning from the worlds best playing. Just an awesome company and awesome guests!
I could watch this all day long and not get tired.👍👍
Had the pleasure of meeting Robben at Ronnie Scott’s last month at a Yellowjackets set.
His attack and touch is just out of this world.
He feels what he plays he plays what he feels
Hé is what he plays and he plays what he IS
Hanging way off the back of the beat. Sometimes you think he missed it and then there it is - that little snatched jazzy chord. Genius.
He has that magical touch.
Soo much respect: talent? Yeah, a lot of people have that... but Robben seems approachable, nice and thoughtful as he is talented, and THOSE things in combination and in seemingly equal measure is RARE, and makes me respect him immensely as not only a musician but equally importantly (at least to me) AS A HUMAN BEING.
Folks this guy is the best we will ever see in our lifetime. A true treasure for all us amateurs. I spent my life emulating EVH, SRV, John Mayer among many others but Robben is from another place musically . If you’re just starting out, PLEASE pay attention to him. Can’t go without mentioning Eric Johnson as well. Phenomenal. Jerry Reed, Danny Gatton and Roy Buchannon are pretty good too lol!!!!! If you’re young ( I’m 50) please go back and let these guys show you how it’s done, then the most important point is to develop YOUR own style. Stand out for goodness sake.
Ol Roy, my fav Tele player
DON’T FORGET JACK PEARSON……🎸
Mr. Ford is not in Rolling Stone’s best 250 guitarists list! Can you believe that ?😊
Cool....It was a drum tech at American music in Tacoma that told me about Robben Ford....
Pure class, beautiful phrasings, killer tone! I've been following Mr Ford for about twenty years. Definitely one of my favorite musicians. Thanks for all the music, your the bomb
Sheesh, you’d think he could afford a new guitar.🙄
Robben has this endless vocabulary of notes and phrases, lines, etc. He is without a doubt the best sounding guitar player of all of them.
@@mraknz let me rephrase that and say I like his approach and style more. Those players are all great.
My very favorite guitarist for the last 40 + years.... Beautiful brilliance
Mr. Ford is not in Rolling Stone’s 250 best guitarists list. My other idol, Peter Green, is at 63, or thereabouts.
Dude is real smooth on that fretboard.
Robben is a monster player !!
Great job Robin....that vintage LP with the P-90’s is pure beauty
Love that Les Paul!!!
Great guitar player! Excellent Teacher! Pure artist! Greetings from Greece!
Robben Ford. Definitely one of the Greats of All Time 🤗🎸
An original 50’s gold top with P-90’s - damn! Now that’s a dream guitar - not to mention Robben’s playing.
Love how he builds up his lines, takes his time to burn just like a man, not a boy. Most of all, he plays in the pocket, that's the first thing one should focus on. Backing track was too loud btw.
I just love it! Thanks Robben for your humble sharing! :)
Sounds fantastic man. Saw RF last year in Nashville with Jeff McErlain. They we're killin it!
I also thought he was primarily a bridge pup kind of guy? he seems to be doing most of his demonstrations with the neck pup. Sweet tone!
Thanks Robben & Truefire for sharing.
Robben, you've been so generous with you time with TrueFire, and now another course, looking forward
Thank you Robben for sharing this awesome Les Paul ,,,,the intro vamp sounded great as you usually do. Long time fan of blues guitar and your original songs. Love your videos on substitutions and alternative grips, I've learned a lot so far. Jam on.
Robben Ford grooves heavy, and he doesn't waist notes, every note hits you where it needs to.
waste not want not~
Master teacher, is the only definition that fits Robben Ford
Remember watching the Ford brothers band at Barney Steele's in Redwood City in the early to mid 80s? Great blues....awesomely delivered. Thanks Robin!
I've always played a game called: Stay In Key - where I will pick a key and play notes up and down the neck, not caring about making "statements" with the notes or playing licks - just playing notes and staying in key. I started doing that when I was 19 (played since I was 12) and I'm still doing at at the age of 64. Great way to warm up and I've created some new songs and riffs by doing that. And some of my "mistakes" wound up being some of my best compositions.
What a wonderful session!!! And very happy to see Jeff McErlain's new album, Now, being plugged. An equally gifted artist with his own distinct voice.....
Thank you for this wonderful performance. Nice lesson!
Please don't talk over his playing
Great work besides that
Although Robben seems to find it somewhat unlikely I actually DO use a maj7 chord in the Blues every now and then... (e.g. a bVImaj7 just before going to the V7 chord in a minor Blues)
But maybe he just didn't want to scare the cowboy chord guys right away with cryptic nomenclature... (and I guess we ALL have been cowboy chord guys when we first picked up a guitar)
Amazing True Fire and Robben!! Congrats!! Love this!! I would love to see a True Fire with Steve Lukather and John Mayer!!! Keep rockin!!
Robben Ford, what an amazing talent, the guitar sounds amazing.
Love your music! Thanks for sharing.
Robben is so down to earth. I have seen him live once, and his feel is unmatched. I got a chance to talk with him for a while, and he's just such a real person. He said it, he brings the jazz chords to his Chicago blues gig.
Great players are never afraid to share because they know it will help push the art forward and will not lead to clones because guys who learn certain techniques or approaches that others are generous enough to share are typically absorbed by guys and put into a context that reflects their style. Guys who are serious musicians will use it as an influence vs step towards becoming a clone. The clones just make people think, wow I wish I was listening to the guy he is trying to be. If you plan on being great you understand that borrowing ideas and techniques to build up your tool box is how blues and jazz evolve. Clones do nothing to evolve a genre and simply sound like they have no identity, come across as dishonest and their product will come across as unauthentic and inferior to the original who also has influences but carved out his out space by learning from others and blending licks, timing, phrasing and vibrato that identifies their own unique voice on the instrument. That's what this whole thing is. It's about be a important person in the development of the art form. If you cannot do that honestly you will not be remembered as a contributor
Robben Ford implies that making mistakes is a positive element to have within Jazz and Blues music. But when I make mistakes for some reason it doesn't seem to work out well.
I love Robben's tasty blues playing. No "Hey, look at ME guitar gymnastics".
I will buy you a new Gibson and I’ll take that old one you deserve a new one :-)
Hahhaha
Yeah and that old dumble you travel around with. That,s old tech, outdated!!! I,ll stop by and get it out of the way.
Russell E Simonetta hahahahaha. Forgot about that.
One of my regrets in life, I never made it to Robbens clinics when he still lived in California.
I bet the lady's dug this katts style one of the best or the best in his voice on guitar...RocknRollflat5
Awesome playing and Ukiah my pit stop on my way to Blue lake ... Humboldt county
I can imagine Robin will say this in the video, but listening to the opening track it sounds like he’s a real, Grant Green fan. Everybody don’t sleep on Grant Greene he’s one of the greatest there ever was as well!
Jamar Jenkins... Me too about that Mickey Baker book. I was CRAZY about Mickey Baker back in the mid '70s. Then I went to that Joe Pass Chord book... awesome too. But Mickey changed my life!
I might have to check out these books.
Did you simply learn the chords on the first page where it has a whole bunch of them listed? This is all kind of new to me and I would like to know how to apply this book and basically just understand how to use the book.
...is the bridge integrated in the tailpiece? Robben sounds really great with that gibson : )
Wow Robben Fords Chord Revolution totally blew my mind really need to get back to the trufire series soon!
As a beginner guitar player who just turned fifty years old, I hope to make some progress before I'm dead, and most of Robin's playing is so far beyond my understanding and skill level that the best I can do is grab a few licks and pray that some day it will all make sense.
In the mean time thanks for sharing such great content.
Home Guitar Player don’t dismiss it just yet. It is all built on the simplest of blues. Start with the old guys and work your way to Robben from there. The blues is the common thread in all music. Find some beginner blues lessons on TrueFire and go from there. Learn some theory as well while you’re at it. It’ll begin to click sooner than you think!
Take your time and enjoy
@@Scratch_Monsters_Golf cool, I'm doing just that.
Learn to play rhythm guitar solid and on time first.
@@eolden7749 Thank you
This guy just kills! Such an amazing player...
Robben's comping based on guide tones (3rd + 7th) of the chords and some drop 3 chords. he uses them in a very sophisticated way!
Robben's courses are inspirational!
What a beautiful Les Paul! And Robben brilliant as always.
Wonderful! This is the master!!!
Just joined and very much appreciating Robben's talents.
Who is that boss man? Definitely running the show….
Super.!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Simple but so elegant or classy.
Man what a flow and swagger. Pure class
All the artists guitarist..RocknRollflat5
Don’t dye your hair
Robben!! The living legend!!👍🙏
A true master. And that is the sexiest les Paul I’ve ever seen. Anyone know the specs and if that’s RF’s?
It'a s '53 goldtop
I'm excited to be he😢re 😮to wat ch and listen.😮🎉
1 of the top 100 players. Mmm. Probably the top 1 I’d say top 5 easy but for his ability to do blues, jazz, rock etc the early years are awesome, you can name lots of guitarist’s but I feel this guys feel musically is by far the best, I’ve seen many live musicians, including Robben ford You can tell that he’s listening to everyone play whatever instrument they play and takes what his heard makes it is own, and better. Not about speed just what sounds good. Effortlessly genius.
He’s got everything
National treasure.
Thanks Robben , very inspiring !
Robben is an incredible improviser. One of my favorite guitar players. Thanks for the inspiration.
Robben God
First time I saw Robben s name was on a Mike McDonald album If that's what it takes! Other albums included Debarge all this love and Rick Springfield Working class dog and Randy Crawford Secret combination just a few sessions he's played on! Then I bought his talk to your daughter album in early 90s ! Great player like Larry carlton Steve lukather Dean parks Jay graydon Lee Ritenour and all the session greats!
A true improviser I could listen to him just comp all day long
Robben is bad ass..he can shred if he wants..
Full diminished while over min or dominant chords.lol
3 5 b7 b2 = all minor
Hence the ( N6) or harmonic min b5 or melodic min b5..which will overlap
with the whole tone dominant #2, #4...hence you can play Maj or/and min and diminished
from the root too....SICK.....
Start a full diminished from the ROOT or maj3.
The De'mingian scale... (?)
KLASSE !!!
I got lucky this morning and put on Larry Carlton and this young feller tacking it up and wound up here an hour or two later. Good morning! Now I gotta get up and go get my guitar.
look how nice and loose his right hand is!
Word of caution about the Mickey Baker book... there are a number of typos ...so don't be surprised
simply love robben!!
❤what a relic guitar ... catch my eye 😊
Robben Ford is the truth.
what a honest man🎸🎼🎵
What a beautiful sounding guitar....Robben so good
i liked him best when he played nylon for rickie lee jones.
@@elkalabaw7665 His work with Tom Scott, and Joni Mitchell was not too shabby either
@@Deliquescentinsight yes indeed, that wailing guitar on miles of aisles was my first experience of him, almost forgot.
Even I in Romania bought the book after Robben mentioned it
i love P-90s in old guitars. is he going through his Dumbal? its only the intro so far... i see it. nope its not
Robben Ford unique and unmistakable I will never get tired of listening to your music, thank you!!
Great video. I used to listen to Robbin with the Charles Ford Band back in 1972.
Sooo great. Amazed by his light touch/attack. Anyone knows what pick he is using?
The 22 Thumbs Down as of 9/3/2020 are from Pearl Jam fans.
How to unlock the fretboard? Listen to (or watch) Robben Ford play.
Much appreciated, from Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
