Man! I love that sound!! I grew up on a two cylinder John Deere and that love has never left me. My Dad had a JD dealership and was a farmer along with his brother and father, and I learned this before I knew how to ride a bicycle!!
720 JD pulling 4 bottoms at 5:30 had his hands full! Love to see power and torque challenged. . . . Thanks for posting this interesting video!!! S. Carolina
A lot of these have too much plow hooked to them. Just because they will pull the plow here doesn't mean that is the correct size plow for the poor tractor trying to pull them. Show some respect. These pieces of American History deserve more than this!!! I wish they could talk to you. Well they are talking to you in their language, you just aren't listening!! Nice video!! THANKS
Brings back memories.....when Dad or I were plowing the robins would be walking along in the furrow, looking for worms! Ha! Pretty smart birds! The smell of the earth was wonderful!!! What are all those meatballs in golf carts doing? This is a participant sport, not a spectator sport!
Grew up on small family farm using John Deere power Beginning with an H purchased in 1941 or 1942 followed By a B model, a little later two M's were baught, some Time later two A's were acquired along with a small Diesel tractor, in this time frame 4 crawlers(bulldozers) We're put to work. Only three of these tractors were used When purchased
In all these shows and demonstrations, although not a great video of it, is a John Deere #60. You seldom see one doing any work, any that I've seen are static. As a youngster, I spent a lot of time plowing and cutting sorghum on a JD #60. I guess it was one of the first tractors to have power steering..
I guess I'll never under stand why Farmers need to put chrome straight pipes on the Two-cylinders, I like to sleep at night with-out a ringing in my ears. The 720 Diesel sounds just right to me! So does the 70 Diesel! We plow our 150 acres every year with Two-cylinder tractors with mufflers on all of them.
I completely agree. My Dad had a '52 G that had been seriously modified by the previous owner (put out 65 hp on the dynamometer). You couldn't run that one with a straight pipe.
A straight piped 720 or 70 is one thing, but how would you like to listen to that Detroit at 10:45 all day? Sounds cool at a show but obnoxious in real work.
They were strong pulling tractors easy on fuel. But but but. After sending 12 summers on the old two bangers a G then 720 then 730 the an 830 i am next to being totally deaf from them the 4020 and 5020 werent any better
That’s music coming out of that model R I would take that R over any modern tractor today that’s for sure! and I would rather plow 50 acres with that R over any modern tractor today!
I love the sound of these poppin Johnny tractors. Brings back memories 👍👍
My first memory is 60 years ago is sitting on Grandpa's lap steering his "Johnny Pop"!!

those 2 cylinders were the life of our farm in the 60s; we had an A a B and a 730 diesel; many hours to cutting and raking hay and farming
When that Oliver with the Detroit rolled up you couldn't even hear the Johnny's popping
Love the sound of the 2 cylinder Poppin Johnnies
Music to My Ears
I love that pop pop.
@@dougwinders6973 Low revving, not a lot of HP but massive torque from poppin jonnies.
Been to these events, and never understand why ppl hang their toes in the furrow on every pass

Yes Sir Them 4 bottoms are Making Them Work
This John Deere at 3:29 looks like the model I was photographed sitting on in 1948 (very young at the time) and been mad about tractors ever since.
That's 620 with three bottoms at 1. 02. That's a well-balanced tractor on a nice pulling plow.
What a wonderful sight to see all that green two cylinder power turning over the soil.
YA I can smell it from here’
Smells good
Oh yes! Good old days!
My surveying instructor at Texas A&M was Dr Bertrand.

All amazing super tough tractors, in real hard pulling soil, really noticed that 720 tricycle pulling 4 furrow drag plow, bloody impressive

When farming was farming, now a satellite steers the lushy plushy tractor😁
More time to think about the neighbors daughter
This is impressive!

My old man used to say , make it work hard!…
Other wise it’s not healthy for the engine but don’t let it lug!

jefffirefighter12106, I prefer the stock muffler, I think they sound better that way.
The standard exhaust as I remember it was just just a padded pipe sticking straight up thru the hood...

Its not too bad unless your in a structure or under one I personally like to see mine shoot the blue flames at night.

During the seventies I had a B and two 730 s miss those days.
Love old tractors .. I have 3 with plows, including a 1946 John Deere H !! Thanks .. GD Tractor

I grew up with my family on the farm and my favorite tractor was the 1934 John deere b,
I think ours was a '38.....had spoked wheels with rubber tires.

Guy at 9:15 got his all tuned up!!!
He sure did and he was giving the plow a good workout too.
Making Them 2 cylinders Talk to You
The R's are beating the pants off the 720's
The. R s must more torque you can only rev so high I liked hearing the Pony engine rev up
Good showing of the John Deere diesels
Popp'n Johnny!!
A beautiful sound
2:30 little birtha and big birtha
THAT'S TRAVIS

it gets in your blood.ronad reagan was bottom gay,and a fucking last born.rap your mind around that.
My dad had a Jonny popper model A That he farmed with do not remember how many acers
That looks like hard plowing dirt
Looks like no one knows how to level a plow.
Imagine the compaction...
Sure ain't plowing very deep. Probably can't do it.
4 bottom plows are not common back either
