The rocky road requires you to not get so far in front of them. Only do that to save yourself not because your scared. IF you get too far far in front and then change direction they don't go over the spikes. They track you not the path you walked which is also why they almost always missed those sulfur pools you activated because you were too far ahead and then switch directions. Zigzagging for example only slowed you down I don' think they take extra damage since it just counts them being in it already. Also refund you perks and set them for the character. IN this case better pickup range and defense might have helped a lot as well as luck maybe for better options since you expect less level ups. I thought you were going to die way faster. You did really well all things considered. I definitely agree that that spell type isn't to your advantage. You definitely do better with ranged spells overall.
