Paco on the hand had guilt for being a cop and putting Miklo for what he went through, but in reality - wha the movie was trying to show us that Miklo is lost and never going to change, he was who he was even before he killed Spider. Paco was trying to make him get out of that life, Miklo relied on guilting him for the past. Paco didn’t owe Miklo anything - Miklo choose his life and the mistakes. A judge letting a a young adult join the military instead of going to prison to try and better themselves was pretty common in the era this movie starts in especially during the Vietnam War. Miklo was already on probation at the beginning of the movie so he was going to prison no matter what. But what always got me about Miklo getting charged with murder is that Spider shot him first I feel like that could've been beaten in court but who knows what kind of lawyer Miklo had probably a public pretender. I agree with you about Paco coming home being the self righteous sober cobra cop after he was the one all them looked up to as teenagers. It's like you said it took that ending scene with Cruz for him to truly see how much of the way things turned out fell on him. Im not a fan of remakes but this movie would be a good candidate for one. The story is a good one but the acting in this movie was just to over the top for me to take seriously. Maybe thats why people love it so much, idk. But I imagine with a good director, cinematography, and actors, it would be a huge success.

The white dude has to be the worst actor I have seen in any movie. He is horrible. He way over plays the charactor and just comes across completely unbelievable. Every damn scene he way over dramatizes.

It does get pretty cheesy at times the dude that played Miklo was a dog shit actor but ill always watch it anytime I see it.. such a quotable movie
Benjamin bratt is such good actor. But the paco character is really dislike able. His cousin really wanted to be a part of his life. But paco was nothing more than a gatekeeping fool that joined the usmc and became a cop to live as a self righteous idiot. Not realizing till the end that he played a huge part in getting his cousin locked up and becoming a criminal. The ending would’ve been way better if paco had his come uppings either through assassination or some sort of irony.
