Very cool project. I'm a moderator on the OpenBuilds forum and I cant say that I remember someone converting a quilting machine. If you need any help customizing OpenBuilds Control, let me know. I've written a lot of plugins for it.
@sharmstr I have a Longarm and I am going to try and build the same system that he built for his wife. Can you help me with figuring out how to make a hole in my design using Openbulids, so that the Longarm machine will stitch around that hole, and not in it?
@@WeQuiltStudio The OpenBuilds black box and Control only sends code and moves the machine. Your gcode will have to tell it to stitch around the hole. Gcode is generated by either you or CAM software.
Greetings from the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria. Good job done! But you could use any other 32bit control board that can be used for CNC milling or CNC plasma cutters, for example, right?
This is outstanding Mr. Soat Mon. When you do the follow up videos would you please put references to the motors you are using. This whole concept is way beyond my level of understanding and experience but still would certainly like to get a set up put together for a simple device I am working on. And also, on the motors do you remember where you sourced them? A special thank you for this one for sure! Well things are finally warming up around here but just for a day or two at a time. How are things around you place, hope you have a good weekend.
Hi Sr. Soat Mon... I watched all your videos about the sewing machine, I saw the connections for the blackbox of the two servos but I didn't see the connection between the sewing mahine's motor to the blackbox. I also didn't understand how the movement of the needle motor will coincide with each stop by the Gcode points. thanks
The machine has to have it's own stitch regulator. It is a very common thing on longarms and can be added. Look on the internet and you will find them. The CNC only moves the machine around, it has to do the stitch regulating.
Hi, I am VERY interested in seeing how you adapt this to a quilting machine. My wife has one and I would very much like to try this. I don't have any cnc back ground but I do have some motor control background.
Here is everything I bought: Keep in mind I almost always buy the cheapest thing I can find... 10mm pulleys: amzn.to/3uPKCfF Timing Belt: amzn.to/3sG3afT Stepper Motors: amzn.to/3JnaELh You will want to size to your application. These wire up to the Black Box- Black to A+, Green to A-, Red to B+, Blue to B-. (usually there is a wiring diagram but these did not have one) Power supply: amzn.to/33hqsQt Black Box: openbuildspartstore.com/?ref=4mAalJdH4nWhV_ scroll down the page and you will see it, if not search for black box. Hope this helps, feel free to send me an email if you need to.
anyway to get a phone call to you i have a cnc with mach 3 and had to change control board i have the mach 3 2.1 cant get any movement and driving me nuts

Thank you very much Shawn!
Could it be a good motion control option for a CNC plasma cutter

I plan on doing exactly what you are planning to do with the longarm machine. Thanks for the information!
Thanks Soat! Wishing you all the best.
Thanks Todd! You too!

Great video, thanks for sharing!
You're welcome!
Wow this is great and im looking forward to the build!
Thanks!

I sent you links in your other comment. Email if you need help. :)
Hi Soat. Thanks for the enlightening video. Can I ask what kind of servo you used?
They are stepper motors and you need to size them to your project.
Is the connector and cable included? (PSU to blackbox)

Nice work. I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to power and control my spindle. I'm adding this controller to my 3040 cnc. Any ideas?
Contact open builds. I bet they will help you.

Sorry, should have asked before. Is there anything special about the power supply you are using?

Hi i have blackbox x32 but when i plug my usb into my pc I see no usb connections
anyway to get a phone call to you i have a cnc with mach 3 and had to change control board i have the mach 3 2.1 cant get any movement and driving me nuts
I would contact openbulds. They would be better equipped to help you.
Do you offer Online Class for CNC user?
I'm willing to sign up for a class.
I'm totally new... I would like to learn.
Sorry no. There are a lot of online support groups though. Cnczone and others
Does this allow pass thru to use a external driver on one axis? I have one axis that is a Nema34 motor
I don't know. I would check their website. Post a question. They were pretty responsive to questions.
Hi,i just wat to ask,can you run other grbl softwares with the BB like cncjs?
Any grbl control software should run it but I would go to the forum on their website and ask.
Will it run nema34 servo motors?
I'm not sure. If you will follow the link in the description you can check the specs.
does it work with mach3?
No it uses grbl
Funny when you consider that perforated cards were invented to drive quilting machines.
Also, what is your email? Thanks.
