  • New York Times reporters Elizabeth Dias & Lisa Lerer sit down with Desi Lydic & Jordan Klepper to talk about their new book, “The Fall of Roe: The Rise of a New America.” They discuss the conservative Christian movement to restore traditional families through abortion bans, why the overturning of Roe v. Wade blindsided Democrats, the long-term threats to IVF and contraception, and how the movement seized levers of power to influence law. #DailyShow #RoevWade #Abortion #Rights

It seems to me that the media were a large part of the problem, because they didn't take Trump seriously and do their due diligence. They're still not covering his dangerous rhetoric and mental & psychological instability in much depth. I agree that we needed a better plan in place, and to recognize far sooner the importance of making as many judicial appointments as possible during Democratic administrations, but without media exposing the involvement of Christian Nationalists and the ultimate goals of religious extremists, it was difficult to elect the people and pass the policies that might have helped shore up our defenses.

If suffering from a terminal illness is salvation, I don't want any part of it. There's a huge difference between physical pain and emotional pain, and often they are intertwined with no exceptions. Not to mention that it makes them unproductive, which also goes against their Calvinism philosophy, so they've already have a heaping pile of Bee Ess pie right there.
Anyone who wants to cause such atrocities because it's their "faith" don't know real pain and suffering if they come down with a severe case of shingles, Crohn's and pulmonary embolism at the same time, and they don't deserve any iota of power to wield on the rest of humanity.

There are cases in which I believe an abortion is absolutely necessary and a right. One is when a child is s. assaulted and falls pregnant. No little girl should ever have to go through a pregnancy and delivery. That is an absolute. I will go one further and say that no one who becomes pregnant because of an assault should be forced to give birth. But I will add that I think it should be legal for anyone, but especially when the life of the woman or future fertility is at stake. It's a personal choice and was a right for every woman until now. We are not supposed to go backwards and lose rights.

If you frame it accurately, it is not a "women's issue" but a much larger issue whose solution would solve multiple problems. You're allowing the "Christians" to define the rules of the debate, stop! Your not arguing them out of an article of faith, but if you engage it as a right to privacy then you will get better a better reception because the right to privacy effects issue they care about as well.

Have you watched the movie Moneyball? It was the true story of the MLB team the Oakland A’s who were constant losers and underfunded (compared to other MLB teams). After they hired this young guy in managemen, he convinced them to change recruiting and team building strategies from the traditional “get as many expensive star players as possible” to recruiting lesser-known, cheap but effective players based on their stats. It sounds obvious now, but that’s because it worked. The Oakland A’s had their best season after employing that recruiting strategy.
So, here, the Republicans and anti-abortion advocates gave up on being expensive traditional political stars - winning the popular vote because they changed American hearts and minds to their message - and just focused on politically cheap but effective strategies - like winning through the electoral college (so they can pack the court with unethical people who will impose their will/not follow legal precedent) and focusing on the state/local elections. They were losers that made a triumphant, unthinkable win by changing strategies to statistical effectiveness.
Funny enough, Moneyball came out in 2010/2011 and they said this change came in 2013 so 🤷🏻‍♀️ Maybe that Brad Pitt movie actually did influence them. I haven’t read the book, but I wonder if they mention it.

I agree with the general reasons stated here. Much of the failing is with liberals in general: lack of awareness, self-importance etc... But when we look at the concrete steps that took us here, it's all failure of political strategy. The democratic party was more concerned with fighting leftism and progressive challengers within the party than building strong coalitions to fight republicans. The party gets older and older because it's easier to keep geriatric incumbents from Feinstein to Pelosi in power than to risk younger progressive challengers taking power and there's simply not a lot of energy to combat conservative agendae. And the hubris... Trump's victory was first and foremost a colossal failure of democratic party leadership who actually considered him an ideal candidate to run against. Sure, it was a bit lucky for conservatives, that trump was able to nominate three supreme court justices, but that would have only been two were it not for Ginsburg's egoism.
