There is a federal government, State governments, and Local governments. What do you mean by "Unitary System" of government? Are you talking about resource control and sharing? If so, have you heard about the government's Concurrent List?

God bless Fakponda who brought the bill for returning Nigeria to Unitary System. I didn't see Nigeria as Federal system since I was born in this contraption called Nigeria.

While Nigeria is in dare need of regional government, the map proposed by this bill is unjust to the igbos. The author was crafty enough to gather the yourba and hausa/fulani people, but further decimated the igbos.

You might as well return to the old regional system. Afterall, the old national anthem have been reinstalled. So what are you waiting for?

Didn't the first regional government end in a targeted military coup that resulted in the civil war? Why do we have to change the constitution, the system of government, and even the national anthem so many times just to satisfy some selfish, ignorant, and entitled Nigerians? Instead, we need to change our way of thinking and behaving about governance. We also need a very big dose of honesty, lack of which is gradually killing this country. How can we steal our own oil worth over $26 billion and go to the IMF to borrow $2 billion on condition that we do whatever the IMF tells us to do? And we don't know who is stealing our oil! Haba!

The decision to change from the 36 states structure to the 3 or 4 Regional Structure of government is a matter so Fundamental ,far too consequential and far beyond the capacity of the President and the National Assembly to do alone. Those who are currently tinkering with the idea , obviously do not understand the weight and far- reaching implications of what the matter entails. They forgot that in earlier Regional Government era , that there were no state governments ? So in their small brains what do they think they want to do with the States and their boundaries as presently constituted ? Or they think the states will evaporate with a wave of hands ? By whose powers ? Who gave them such powers ? This is a decision all segments of Nigeria as a nation must take part to decide! It will entail the convocation of National conference that will include the representatives of all institutions, state assemblies, National Assemblies, civil society, youths, women , men etc etc in their adequate numbers and terms of reference. They will assemble to decide on the a new structure for Nigeria. Etc etc
