Thank you! :) In general, I'd recommend using the " Export Base quantities" in the Revit IFC Export settings and also classifying your model if possible before the export. The classification is not necessary, but can save you time later. Do you already have a defined software you want to use for QTO / cost estimation, or are you looking for one?
@@BIMmeup thanks for the reply! Madaster will be used on one project, but we're also exploring other possibilities, dreaming of a day when you can 'effortlessly' get data about carbon footprint, LCA, etc. Layered elements are tricky to get right. I've seen some mentions about IFC4 changes in defining layers of materials, but cannot understand if it affects the export workflows.
Hello! Thankyou so much for sharing your knowledge on these topics! I tried exporting IFC 4.3 from Civil3D 2024.4 with “IfcInfraExport” but once I try to link the exported IFC in Revit 2024.1, it won’t even open! Any hints on how to make it work, please?
Thanks for your comment! There will be an update for Revit 2024 coming very soon - Currently, it should work in 2025. The reason is most probably that there were some changes to the IFC Schema in the final version and these were implemented in the latest Civil IFC exporter and also Revit 2025 but not Revit 2024 yet. Thanks for your patience!
Welcome back! ☺️ About IFCs in Revit: I works as an MEP-engineer. I get IFCs from ArchiCAD. When I link them, all the room-objects becomes ‘generic models’. Can I ask the Architects to change IFC-format or change anything else to be able to fix it? Or is the Import table ‘experimental’ for all IFC-formats in Revit? 🤔
Thanks! Unfortunately, that’s currently a limitation when linking IFC files - this plugin might be useful: apps.autodesk.com/RVT/en/Detail/Index?id=5175665021513349789&appLang=en&os=Win64
@@BIMmeup Thank you! :) I’ll try the plug-in! It makes it REALLY hard to have a BIM-workflow and collaborate with an architect that doesn’t use Revit… :/ You really make great Revit-IFC-specific deep dives! Thank you!
Awsome. Thnx a lot, Lejla. Question: Saving Civil3D mapping file is adressed in this video. What about loading the same mapping file into the same Civil3D model, after making changes on it?
Thank you! If you save the mapping file in the same folder as the dwg, it will be loaded automatically when you export next time! Otherwise, you can also use other folders, have a closer look here: help.autodesk.com/view/CIV3D/2022/ENU/?guid=GUID-E277BF8B-9A39-4A4B-AE15-19D568E02E82
Thanks for the great content. Really helpful. I tried putting the basepoint in my civil 3d file before exporting it to ifc but the points are not coming up on the ifc file (when opened in revit) . Not sure if I am missing something. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Hello! First of all, congratulations! Your channel is amazing! I'd like to know how to export the entity IfcAlignment from Revit. I exported many times and I don't find the entity in the .ifc file : (
Thanks! Revit does not support alignments - IfcAlignment is a concept supported by software designed for horizontal structures, such as Civil 3D. You cannot model an alignment in Revit, which means you also cannot export it.
hi can you please tell me how to export some elements from revit as a group which i could select them by click (select all walls by click)in ifc file as one object i tried assembly but it doesn't work
Applying the explaind workflow in this and in the previous tutorial in Civil3d 2024,, mapping terrain mesh as IfcGeographicElement couldn't help exporting terrain in IFC4.3. Any advice on that? Probably, I missed something? 😊Thanks a lot.
I'm not really a Civil expert, but what do you mean by terrain mesh? The intended workflow would be to work with a Civil 3D surface, like for example described here: www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Creating-surfaces-from-AutoCAD-points.html
@@BIMmeup Thnx Lejla. The said terrain mesh, above, is a regular 3D TIN Surface, recognized by Civil3D as 3D-Surface. Although, it could not be exported via ifcInfraExport, Civil3D can export it in IFC4 and IFC4x1 as IifcBuildingElementProxy instead of IfcGeographicElement as set in the IFC mapping file, serving IFC4.3 export.
Nice Video! Thank you for sharing. I am looking forward for more videos like this.
Al fin regresaste... felicitaciones 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you! Haven't tried it yet, but already interesting.
Thank youuuuu. From Costa Rica!!!

super handy as always, love your videos! 🧡
wondering if you would have any advice on how to use IFC (from Revit) for material takeoff.
