    Germans used Browning Hi-Powers made in occupied Belgium, British used Hi-Powers made in Canada. FN 1922s made in occupied Belgium were also widely used by Germany.

    I've always wondered why they kept producing detectivesque-pocket pistols for military use and not full size pistols until post WWII

      Mostly as a badge of rank rather than a weapon.

      And material constraints were a real problem for most countries. The US produced almost double the 1911s over the Soviet's Tokarev. But the Red forces total strength was over double the USA. But the US had the natural resources and manufacturing capacity to produce, so we did.

      @@adamregiel8044 Mauser C96 was invented in 1896, but it was not issued to the military until 1942. Some officers of the German military did use them during WWI, but those Mausers were purchased privately, which means that it was not an official service pistol.
      Bergmann Bayard was never adopted by the German military.

    My Great Uncle was a captain with the Canadian Army. His sidearm was a Browning Hi Power 9mm

      @@dataillusion unfortunately when he passed away about 10 years ago, his daughter distributed his estate, I begged her to transfer that gun to me. In Canada you need a restricted license to possess a handgun, which I have. Being she was a rabid liberal, she turned over all his firearms to the RCMP. It was either destroyed, or in the personal collection of some cop. 😡

    Interesting fact: all these pistols 1:45 are created by one designer, Johm M. Browning who also made Colt M1903 pocket hammer and M1911

    For Germany you also could have put the m712 which was the machine pistol variant of the Mauser c96 and unlike the original Mauser c96 it had a detachable magazine

    There were not Czech Republic in the times of WW2 but Czechoslovak Republic that was occupied by Germany.

      Revolvers were still standard for police in the US and many countries until the 1980s.

      Revolvers were still issued to some US troops during the Gulf War (1990-91). Not widespread use though.

      @@Chris_the_Dingo Did not know that. Wonder if there was a reason for that, like 1911s and M9s were quite available by then, not to mention that not all soldiers use them. Wonder if they were old 45s or 38s or if there was specialty use like having a magnum revolver or an officer getting to choose their preferred sidearms.

      @@kanalyzer7547 Spain was neutral and did not participate in WW2, but it's pistols feature here. Likewise, Portugal was neutral in WW2, making licensed pistols like the Savage M1907, not show in the video, and Switzerland, also neutral, make licensed copies of the Luger pistol, not shown here, and Sweden, making the licensed Husqvarna M40 pistol, not shown here. Why featuring Spanish pistols, for a neutral country in WW2 but not other neutrals, is odd. Why don't Finland, a WW2 participant, pistols feature. The video needs a disclaimer that it is not fully representative, despite the title.

    and also the germans used the norwegian colt 1911 11.25 mm, produced in norway, and the germans used all pistols made in the countries they occupied, it must have a nightmare for the armourer and logistics regarding the amount of different calibers

    The Webley self-loading pistol looks like the lovechild of a Luger 08 and a Walther P-38. And it's fascinating, given how obsessed the Japanese are with aesthetics, how insanely ugly their pistols are.

      У них было Сопротивление, надо признать. Но в целом их "победа" очень сомнительна, поскольку их действия почти не влияли на конечный результат с рейхом, просто разделили с ними хлеб, чтоб не обижались

    I can't understand how the British ended up with the least modern handguns of any of the major combatants, they're usually at the forefront of military arms. If not for the Browning Hi Power they acquired from Canada, they would have had virtually no semi-automatic pistols. The Webley self-loading pistol was a poor design and small in numbers.

    Русского (СССР ) там ничего нет - Наган 1895 года это бельгийский револьвер Эмилем и Леоном Наган созданный для России , а ТТ-33 года это чистая копия прохвоста Токарева сняиая с белгийского браунинга 1903 года!!! Так что в списке ссср быть не может своего ничего нет!.

      Тут как бы половина оружия - это или итальянская беретта, люгер, кольт или браунинг. Поэтому ваш комментарий можно развить до такой степени, что в видео должно быть отсилы три страны буквально.

    The Russians stole and are still stealing the TT pistol - a copy of the 1911 model, and the Makarov - a copy of the German Walter. And the Kalashnikov AK-74 assault rifle is a copy of the German Schmeisser from 1943-44.

      You were wrong about everything. TT was created, inspired by Browning, in much the same way, and was created in 1911. The Makarov pistol has 2 times fewer details than the Walter, if you can explain it, it will be interesting for me to listen) and how they could copy a Kalashnikov assault rifle, which has its own system, is completely unclear to me.
