Thanks for good video. Hopefully i can answer some questions.
Ive visited regular and although dont see them every day i go, Im usually there for the week(end) and always see them at some time.
The boat trip from Avoch is excellent for seeing them and worth it - boat captain has a dry (but wet) sense of humour.
If you look at the map you'll see chanonry point goes right out into the Moray Firth. The point and fort george opposite create a pinch point where all the lovely salmon get rubbed off onto the point.. so the dolphin wait there to feed. Theyre very clever.
I dont know which tide, but its not low tide.. its either before or after high tide - probably before best.
Ive also noticed at the point when Ive seen dolphins theres ALWAYS a sort of triangle of choppy water appears - i can see it in the video.If you dont see this, you probably wont see them.
Theyre wild animals with their own minds, dont go, say 'not there' and then leave.. wait.. it might be hours..
DO NOT TRY TO SWIM HERE.. its not a beach its the middle of the Moray firth.

We where there 7 months ago, and gave the dolphins a look but over 2 visits there was no show. Glad I have seen them but only on an I pad thanks.

Why do the dolphins come there John? How often and for how long do they stay? Is it annual breeding/migration? Gorgeous shots of the lighthouse and across the bay. What derelict abbey is that?

Hi Diane. You will get many different answers. They have been there for many decades and live in a very shallow bay. They live there all year round. Every flood tide they make their way in and out of the bay. There seems to be a deep gully at this point and they seem to prefer this spot to enter and exit the bay. It could be a spot where small fish come in, I dont know. I will need to do more research. The cathedral was original in AD 700 but was later reconstructed in 1250.
