    Great info. Well done!
    Note that your noise-level is high. You can easily make that noise at least 5 dB lower, by putting up another vertical some 20m or 10m from the 1st one. End-fire feeding, (20m=90°delay line, 10m=135°delay line). Best direction is E or W from the 1st vertical. At least 3 dB lower noise-figure and up to some 40 dB of Front to Back. Domestic QRM almost gone when working DX !
    I had a 2el and later a 4el W1CF 4 square in the 1980th with 400 radials for 80m CW. Their feedpoint was 2m up, making the radials sloping down. This concentrate the lobe towards the horizon. Greyline effect was up to 2.5 hours with this setup. (Could work US-stns 2.5 hours AFTER my sunrise towards NW). Hope to catch U in contests... 73 de Björn SM6EHY

      My noise floor was high that weekend. Usually really low. Turned out to be a new light at my (one) neighbors farm nearby. Not sure I have room for another vertical. This summer's task is to get 80 feet of Rohn 45 up in the air! Hope to hear you on the bands soon. I hope to be in WPX at the end of the month as NT0EE. 73!

    I enjoy your radio content. I'm a new ham, a so-called "panda"; meaning I became an extra during the pandemic before ever touching a radio. I have an Elecraft and some HTs, but no permanent antennas.
    The closeups of the base where helpful; very pause-able.

      Glad this was helpful for you. Welcome to ham radio. Let's get some antennas in the air and get you on the air!!! 73!

    Great technical video Rich. The winch is invaluable for sure. Glen’s grandpas was a telescoping antenna shaped like a triangle if that makes sense? This would be so much easier.
    Fifty seven countries is pretty crazy.

    • @TheOldSwedesFarm
      @TheOldSwedesFarm  6 месяцев назад +2

      I fully understand the triangle! I've seen it before. This antenna is really a performer. 57 countries was great for this low frequency. On a higher frequency, I talked to 115 countries in 48 hours. We're at the peak of teh solar cycle and it's so fun on the radio! Cheers Glen & Annette!!

    Neat looking antenna setup. I don’t know anything about that stuff. My dad had a bunch of antennae on the roof of our urban house growing up. Cheers!

      It's a big antenna, for sure! I always got "that look" from my daughter while she was growing up. I had antennas all over while she was growing up. It'd be fun to see what antennas your Dad had in the air. Thanks for stopping by Lisa!

      Most of the time I use a 1000' beverage antenna for receive. It works incredible with the vertical. Thanks for watching and commenting. 73!

    That antenna is awesome, and the price point isn't that expensive. Rich, how do you know who you are making contact with?

    • @TheOldSwedesFarm
      @TheOldSwedesFarm  4 месяца назад +2

      When people get licensed, they receive a callsign. You will get a call that stats with VE3. VE is for Canada and the "3" is for Ontario. You can tell where people are from based on their callsign prefix. Everyone has a callsign and you give your callsign when you talk with someone. I hope this all makes sense. If not, let me know and I'll explain it better. Cheers Jen!

    How are the signal reports compared to the smaller vertical? I'm assuming you base loaded the 40m vertical for 80m. KE6VG

    • @TheOldSwedesFarm
      @TheOldSwedesFarm  Месяц назад +1

      I have only used the smaller vertical for 40M. It's really a compromise on 80M and gives coverage on about 60 kc. I have compared signals on receive on the two verticals and the DXE-7580 kills on receive. Much better. I would assume it is much louder on transmit too. I will have a full review of the smaller vertical (HF2V) on the channel within a week. Thanks for stopping by to watch. Cheers Robert!

    By the way, did you upgrade from a Yaesu 1000 model to a 101 model since filming the propagation video? Would be interested to hear what an experienced operator like yourself considers when choosing a rig.

    • @TheOldSwedesFarm
      @TheOldSwedesFarm  6 месяцев назад +3

      I had some issues with the FT1000's. They were 25+ years old and it was time for a new rig (and new technology). The new rig is incredible on the receive side. Just fabulous! So quiet and the receiving is perfect. Still learning all the bells and whistles! My consideration was the Yaesu sound and good receiving on both SSB and CW.

    I am trying to learn morse code, but my old brain is fighting me. It says it can only hold one language at a time and its struggling with retaining English at times, lol

    • @TheOldSwedesFarm
      @TheOldSwedesFarm  6 месяцев назад +2

      It was tough for me to learn, 40 years ago. Now it's a second language. Keep practicing, listen to W1AW broadcasts and it'll come to you. Good luck!!
