It's a fun contrast to watch Day9 videos where, sometimes to a fault, he'll go out of his way to point out good UI-design elements that guide the players attention, and the come over and watch anyone in the Yogscast. Tom must have played Peggle more than almost anyone, and doesn't know that red orbs = crit.
I finally bought this game back in July and have been playing it nonstop since. I'm at Cruciball 14 on most classes, and it's hard as nails getting passed it. I've gotten most of the achievements, all of the orbs, and all of the relics. A big ol' thank you to Tom for introducing this game to me.
I love how Tom keeps aiming for a crit when he knows he already has a crit from being under 50% HP. He needs the extra challenge, otherwise it would just be too easy
Tom winning the run despite *instantly* forgetting about his relic guaranteeing crits if he's under 50% health is both impressive and aggravating. Also if he hasn't realized that red pegs mean crit is activated, I think Captain Distracto deserves a promotion to Colonel Distracto!
I have never in my 200 hours noticed that, so I can't in good faith fault him for that. There were other signs that should've made him remember it here tho, but that's not what they pay him for, nor why we are here.
@@Whales_the whole board changes colour, it’s very noticeable, when I first saw my friend play the game the first crit he got I asked him “why did it change red?” You might be colourblind lol, I’d highly recommend taking a test
"Oh we still got the damage because of the echo!"... no tom, it was in fact not the echo, it was the relic you got and completely forgot about. Captain Distracto strikes again!
This is my favorite build in a long time. Getting the exact 'multiple crits all stack' relic you were looking for, by seeking bosses, was a strategy that paid off so well and the level 1 starting Daggorb got to be really good. As for exploitiball being strong, it depends on whether it gets applied before or after the saw hits which is something I'm not bothered going back to check, but the high crit damage on the saw plus the targeting meant it was still nice regardless.
I thought it was insane that Tom seemingly has never made the connection that red pegs means crit mode but then I read the comments and realised there are people with 100+, 200+ hours in this game that apparently never noticed it. Genuinely what the heck, guys? That's bonkers to me. Like, mind boggling even.
The other classes make it easier to make specific builds by removing other orbs and relics. The roundrel has more crit orbs and poison. The balladin has more musicle and bulwark. The spinventor has slime orbs and their starting relic is kinda busted.

The problem with the ball is with crit builds, it's very rare you don't nuke the target, even more rare when you can target anything. Spinesse or however it's spelled makes more sense since it's a player buff over an enemy debuff.
Tom, a little secret: *Red pegs means you have already crit!* Hoping to hit a crit when the pegs are already telling you that you have critted is...confusing.
im beginning to think tom might also be color blind, cause my balls hurt every time he doesn't realize all the pegs turn red despite him not hitting a crit
Would really prefer some of the higher cruciball difficulties since on base level there's pretty much no danger, a win is a basically always a foregone conclusion. Some risk of a loss would add some suspense to the videos.
It's actually REALLY good, imo. Sure, there are a couple scenarios in which it is somewhat of a hindrance, namely having to dig for crits/refreshes (which can be mitigated with other relics and orbs) and (very importantly) how often your orb will glitch out on certain moving stages where the orb is held in place for, like, a second or two, and then just vanishes completely. Other than that, having all pegs have Durable can be *really* strong. I just did a run where I got 450+ Ballwark in a single shot against the dragon. Granted, it was combined with the orb that shields every 3rd orb hit and gives you 1 Ballwark when it does and the kinetic force relic with the crits and refreshes buried in the middle of the treasure mound (so the orb just kept bouncing from the right side to the left side constantly, sloooooowwly digging a path out to the bottom on one side). It's also really good with peg-upgrade strats.
Looking through the comment section I think there’s a chance that Tom might’ve missed the guaranteed crits when injured relic he had, but I dunno no one’s really talking about it
Tom. You have ignored Bouldorb for too long. If you go into the Custom Game menu, there are some special challenge relics. I suggest a run using one of those, and a deck of only Bouldorbs
Daily reminder that Tom is an amazing person and to thank him for all he has done/will do - Day 1434 Wow, a very good build indeed XD, those Buzzsaws are fun, although with a few issues like Tom says "You guys are just going to be a nightmare aren't you" *Proceeds to obliterate all of them in one fell swoop* Daggorb is a good boy, let him stay Bouldorb our beloved, we miss you

I'm kind of thinking the game has reached a point where it needs a pretty serious rebalancing. I remember a time when you weren't doing tens of thousands of damage with every ball you throw. Considering Tom has been winning the last few runs with extreme ease while playing pretty much on autopilot and completely forgetting strategic bonuses seems to suggest the game has become far too easy. Are there difficulty settings? I mean this run was a cakewalk even though Tom forgot about his
"cruciball" is the difficulty setting, with a new debuff every time you win the previous cruciball level. Things like starting with an extra stone, stones do 2/3 instead of 2/4, only one crit peg by default, etc.
Tom is playing on the easiest difficulty on what (imo) is the strongest character in the game. If you have played Slay the Spire, he is basically playing on A0. I think the game is not super well balanced but mostly in terms of 'some things are not good enough at all', the most game breaking thing is whether you find reliable in fight healing or not. I find myself dying in every act roughly as much as one another on higher Cruciball, and are much less likely to win a run. Do keep in mind that Tom probably won't post runs where he doesn't do something particularly interesting or powerful to win because the video won't be long or fun enough.
Did Tom instantly forget about his
Ol Rot Brain Tom.

I am now convinced Tom has never put two and two together and realized that red pegs signifies he's getting crit damage.

Taking lesser shots to get a crit when every shot is a crit, and I'm certain he's going to heal out of crits any moment now. Oop, there it is!

I'd say the only way to get past cruciball 15 is with the buckler or the decoy. them getting 2 free turns while you reload is insane.

Whenever I see a new Tom video uploaded, I feel like the universe has rolled a critical success
Could it be that Tom is colourblind?
Or how does he not notice the red inking when an attack is being counted as crit?
Huh. I hadn't thought of that. Seems likely, and the crit noise at the beginning could be easily tuned out if you're not paying attention.
