They may be pricey but no one can say they aren't capable. What a nice machine. I may have to get myself a Powerball ticket lol

We’ve had ours for over a year now and it’s been a great addition to the stable, we just need to add to the implements and keep growing.

Being a 4520Z owner with a tough cut, my guess is that the tough cut would be better for initial clearing…brushy weeds, saplings, small trees. I’d be interested in seeing what the flail would do on a follow up pass…mulching and clearing up left over stubble. I’m also guessing for maintenance that the flail would give better cut quality. The tough cut is indeed tough, and especially with the hydraulic flip up option, it’s very easy to maintain. The blades give you two cutting edges before needing sharpening. I’m guessing sharpening the flail would be a lot more work. One thing I like about the tough cut versus my finish mower is that it kicks up far less dust when mowing in dry conditions…maybe Steiger could chime in on how the flail compares in that fashion.

It is a tough decision. The tough cut is very versatile. The flail does an amazing job of cut quality. For what I am cutting the flail would be my first choice, But I already have the tough cut. There is nothing like ripping down small trees with the tough cut tho.

@@OTGAuGres The tough cut hardly kicks up any dust. I did not notice much dust with the flails, But a finish mower does make it dusty. I have a side by side video of both flails and tough cut I will be uploading here soon.

Adding to the conversation, I think as a Ventrac owner, owning the Tough Cut is just automatic, jmho. If I’m not mistaken, it’s the #1 selling attachment. For me, some kind of additional mowing capability comes next. I’ve got the 72” side-discharge finish mower with the hydraulic flip up and the striping roller. It does an amazing job and the mowing quality is second to none. I’d really like the flail, but it would be filling a supposed gap between tough cut and finish. Not sure it’s worth the cost. I’m at like 8 attachments already…I’ve got to stop somewhere. I’ve got a lot of equipment in addition to the Ventrac. The Ventrac was the last major purchase. If I had it all to do over, the Ventrac system would be the first and I’d fill in needs with other equipment where the Ventrac is lacking. It is an amazing platform.

@@OTGAuGres I agree. The tough cut and power bucket along with a finish mower are the all around best package. My tough cut works great for what I do. If I used mine for a buisness to make money I would consider the flail. You really cant beat any Ventrac attachment. They make so many useful attachments that I would love to have all of them, But for now I just purchase what I can afford. The flail is amazing. If it would have been released when I got my Ventrac I probaly qould have got it over the tough cut. I love my tough cut tho, Its a beast
