A number of years ago my Wife and Myself stayed at the Black Swan pub...we stayed just the one night...during breakfast I put my car keys on the breakfast table we were sitting at...a few minutes later I noticed the keys had gone...thinking my Wife had picked them up I thought nothing more about it...until we stood up to leave and I asked the Wife for my keys to which she replied she hadn't touched them....we asked the staff if a member had accidently picked them up but no said they'd seen any keys.....30 minutes later the proprietor said he'd found the keys on an upper level neither Myself or the Wife had even been...this incident made me question reality.
Hello Lee yes the Black Swan pub has some great stories and that’s really interesting about your first hand experience there. In one of my early videos I covered the Prince Rupert hotel where people have found their bed pillows in completely different parts of the hotel. The Black swan hotel in this video is long gone and I believe it’s were BHS was and possibly Sports Direct now 👻🙋♀️
Lived in the city centre down a Snickleway for ten years in a 15th century cottage.Yes,it was haunted .A priest from the Reformation stood in the corner of the living room and a lady stood in the lane listening to the church organ. Two of the buildings I worked in also had spectral occupants.
Just visited York tody as a Friday 13th adventure. It was so charming that I completely forgot about its ghost stories. One day is not enough to explore it as it has so many awesome places.
I was a college trip to York about 40 years ago; our teacher wanted us to go into Clifford's Tower - I knew nothing about - but I had such a panic stricken feeling about it I wouldn't go in. Ive since learned a lot of awful things happened there, so my instincts were spot on.
In the old hospital in the monastery ,there are still patients and monks going about there daily business ,I took a photo of a empty hospital room and it was full of the monks in the form of a mist including the shapes of the beds and patients .

My great grandmother worked at the Yorkshire museum when she was a young woman and when my grandma was a baby ( probably 1910s to early 1920s) she used to tell my mum stories about hearing noises and it being generally creepy, apparently they once had some Egyptian artefacts and she absolutely hated them as she said it made the place feel almost like static electricity. She said there was a ghost in the museum gardens, I believe she said it was supposedly a monk. When my grandma was a baby, they lived in a house in York, which was apparently home to the ghost of a sailor who’d been murdered in the house. There were banging noises, footsteps, smells, doors and cupboards opening and they apparently saw him once going upstairs and it also rocked my grandmas cradle.
Oh wow thank you ever so much for sharing your family story. How interesting. That’s so interesting about the writ facts being like static. I wonder if that happens at the British museum too? Wow the grandma’s house sounds very active! 🙏👻

@@ghostcasebook1266 I used to work part time a retail store in Central York during my college and university years. The store was a relatively modern building, however the store area was supposedly built upon an old burial ground. During my time working there, multiple things happened to me that I could not explain, for example, when I was in the staff kitchen filling out my hours sheet, I heard whistling, keys jingling and heavy boots stomping about, coming from the large storeroom towards the kitchen and when I turned round (thinking it was someone I worked with) no one was in there. This event happened to me twice. Also, I witnessed a heavy door opening by itself (when there was no wind present) and items flying off shelves for no apparent reason. I heard footsteps on many occasions and when you were working you always felt that someone was watching you even if you were on your own.

Hi, how are you? I'm doing well. Happy Easter to you. Awesome live ghosts stories I enjoyed it. Your ghosts stories videos are always enjoyable. I have another ghost story to tell you. When I was nine years old back in 1990. I was on a school trip. We went to an island called Wards Island. There is a lighthouse there which is haunted by a man ghost. My classmates and I went to this haunted lighthouse to check it out. One of my classmates tried to open the lighthouse door. But it would not open. It was locked. My classmate kicked the lighthouse door. When all of a sudden a man dressed in 19th century clothing. Opened the lighthouse door from inside and said to us. He said stay away from my lighthouse or I'll come and get you all. Then he vanished right before our eyes. And the lighthouse door slammed shut on its own. I and my classmates were so shocked that we ran for our lives away from the haunted lighthouse. We told our teachers what we saw. But they never believed us. I'll never forget that day back in 1990. Have a great day see you next video 😊
There were many accidents during the construction of ancient buildings. I would not be surprised if a stone mason stayed behind to guard over his masterpiece.
Oh fantastic! I hope you have a fabulous time. I have a York part 2 coming too but it’ll be a few more weeks for that. I’m waiting for some copies of death certificates and parish records to arrive! I hope this video can add a little to your trip and I hope you have the best time! 👻🙋♀️
Thank you. It certainly will. I've made some notes and will visit the places in your video. And several others I've located from various books. Looking forward to your next video.
Hello Nicola. I finally got around to watching this, and I certainly wasn't disappointed. Yet again it is filled with very interesting historical information. The stone mason and naval apparition completely intrigued me, I thought it a lovely touch from those over the other side. Thank you once again for your wonderful research and compilation of these well put together posts. Can't wait for the next one, when you're able. ❤️👻🇦🇺

Good Stuff. Been to York a few times and enjoyed their Ghost Tours. New to your channel but have you looked at Colchester. My home town. Oldest recorded town although its now been rebranded as Britain's First City. Richard Felix released a dvd looking at Colchesters ghosts.
@@ghostcasebook1266 The Strood links Colchester and Mersea Island. When I was a child visiting Mersea. Not that there's much there! My Uncle would say people have reported seeing Roman Soldiers. Despite Colchesters deep Roman History there aren't many ghost stories involving sightings like that.

I like a good ghost story! Something I've wondered about ..think about it from the ghost's point of view... you're stuck haunting the same place, for an unknown amount of time. That would have to get old quick. Can a ghost talk to other ghosts? Or carry on real time discussions with the living? In many ways, being a ghost doesn't sound all that pleasant ..
I love York my husband worked in York for years .My husbands family home was haunted we lived there for 26 years .One of the bedrooms was haunted we think by a maid from 4 hundred years ago .She or he was quite vindictive and did lots of bizarre and nasty things .Especially if we had been away on holiday it did not want us to come home .It was angry and let us know about it .We never told many people about it because we didn’t want to be laughed at.We sold the big house and now live in a bungalow .No problems here thank god .we have a great book called the snicelways of York it’s an amazing book .Each page holds a map and a pottage history of the individual Sniclelway .
you forgot to add the principal hotel attached to railway station, I work as an agency chef there sometimes, and I have seen servants, former chefs and guests, roman soldiers and a Viking warrior, I was this weekend and saw a roman centurion.
I lived in York for many years. When my daughter’s class were having a field trip in the city centre, one of the guides told the story of the apprentice who saw the Roman soldiers and horses, one of the little boys piped up “ Were they in black and white or colour?” Then when they found out the witness was a retired police officer they asked if they could visit him

Making a correction, I know personally, the Lady Sarah Brocklebanks Great Grand daughter her son and Sarah moved to Hull so the Grandad lived in Hull, she is seventy years old and uses her maiden name, which was her grandads Sarah was nearly six foot tall, slim with dark hair and blue eyes, thanks
I was born and bred in York. When I was young nobody talked about ghosts. Its purely for the benefit of tourists. Funny how many pubs are allegedly haunted.
I agree about the pubs. Having said that, there are some hotels that are allegedly haunted and if you mention it to the staff they will not discuss it. Some do promote it as a selling point though. 👻🙋♀️
Great video! I'm surprised that one of the seemingly better-known ghost sightings wasn't mentioned - the ghosts of Roman legionaries who haunt the cellar of the Treasurer's House in York. They were seen by Harry Martindale who gave a very detailed account of them. Here is a video where a tour guide in the cellar describes the sighting - (there are many other videos about it too) - ruclips.net/video/_AnQdvIYanQ/видео.html
Yes, I decided not to include that on this video only because it’s been covered so many times. I do know about the Roman Soldiers as that’s why I mentioned it in the description box below the video. 👻🙋♀️🙏
I love york and went on a few occasions to visit york with my then partner Patricia we took the open top signt seeing bus that goes around york the commentary given on the bus mentioned the black swan pub or inn we decided to get off the bus at the closest stop to the pub and go for a couple of drinks there it was around 2 pm in the afternoon we had two drinks each but as soon as i had been to the bar to order our first drinks i sat down and took out my then new iphone to take a couple pictures much to the disapproval of my then partner i told her i would be discreet i wouldn't hold my phone up at eye level but would hold the phone at roughly chest level due to the fact that a number of tables were occupied i took three random pictures on my phone didnt look at them put my phone in my pocket and thought nothing more of it later when we got back to our b&b room pat asked to see the pictures from the black swan on my phone i put in the pass number and handed her my phone she was surprised at what she saw on a table not far from ours and that table was completely empty from when we arrived to when we left i still have that photo today strange but 100% true the camera never lies i believe
How bizarre! It is strange how cameras can pick up things we can’t see in a way. This happened to me at Dunster castle with a strange looking figure on the library! 🙋♀️👻
I’ve done the ghost tours of york not because I’m from york ( I am though) buy I’d rather do them online because there not scary in town at all yet I’ve had my own experiences of the paranormal at home if I had them in town I’d be like meh because if you’ve had them before you’ll be less so but if it’s your first time you’ll get goosebumps and you’re heart will start beating fast mine did it’s no easy if its poltergeist activity then I get annoyed because poltergeists throw your stuff on the floor forcefully it’s not super helpful

Beautifully made, presented and read. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it Chris! Thank you so much 😊
There were many accidents during the construction of ancient buildings. I would not be surprised if a stone mason stayed behind to guard over his masterpiece.
I'm off to York this month at some point. Thank you for the heads up.
I love your stories. Absolutely brilliant 👻💀
Glad you like them James. Thank you 🙏
thanks this was an ace vid as I love York and have been on a few ghost walks and stayed near the micklegate bar myself.
I love the intro music, leading into this video!
Glad you like it! 👻🙋♀️
Just found your channel subscribed. York is a lovely City.
It really is and thank you so much for subscribing Stephen. I really appreciate it 👻🙋♀️
I have been interested in the Paranormal and the Supernatural most of my Life.
❤️👻🇦🇺
Wow, thank you Annette; you are very kind and I am so glad you enjoyed the stories and historical features. The next one should be around 22nd Sept all being well and I won’t tell you what it’s about, but I’m finding it fascinating to uncover these stories 👻🙋♀️🙏
Although this channel is priceless for the central theme of it's production, the Historical background adherent to each story is just as fascinating.
Wow thank you ever so much; I appreciate this 🙏🙋♀️👻
Superb work Nicola, well done. I have been looking forward to seeing this video; and I’m not disappointed. You should be so proud of yourself, luved it.
Have a wonderful Easter and take care.
Neil 👻👍🙏🥂.
Ps. Already looking forward to enjoying your next production.
Thank you so much! Neil, you’re very kind and I’m so pleased the video didn’t disappoint! Happy Easter to you too! 👻🙋♀️
@@ghostcasebook1266 Thank you Nicola. 👻👍🐈
28:30;SU-PERB!I've been here too😊👍
My mate Jason lives in the place on the right of the York Gin...
I love your narration on your videos, very informative. I love ghost stories. 👻👻👻
Glad you enjoy it! Thank you Sue 🙋♀️
Good Stuff. Been to York a few times and enjoyed their Ghost Tours. New to your channel but have you looked at Colchester. My home town. Oldest recorded town although its now been rebranded as Britain's First City. Richard Felix released a dvd looking at Colchesters ghosts.
Thank you so much Christopher and welcome to the channel. Yes, there are lots of stories from Colchester and Essex so I’ll add them to my list! 👻🙋♀️🙏
Well worth the wait, thank you.❤
Thanks so much Iain! 🙂
Loved this video, York is one of my favourite places
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you kindly 🙋♀️👻

Thank you ever so much 🙏👻🙋♀️
OMG Thank you! I needed this! ❤
No problem 😊 Kimberly!
great job loved it just shared it with a few people
Hello Thebagfather46 and thank you ever so much for your kind words and for sharing. Means a great deal to me 👻🙋♀️🙏
I like a good ghost story!
Scarecrow, full of horrific and creepy stories
Once Again A Great Video Thanks From Blue
Really enjoyed this. ❤
Interesting! I enjoyed watching it!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you Don 👻
Please please do one based on liverpool we have tons of ghosts here x
I am working on Liverpool Cyanide; it’s in the early stages so far but it will be happening 🙋♀️👻
Very good video!
you forgot to add the principal hotel attached to railway station, I work as an agency chef there sometimes, and I have seen servants, former chefs and guests, roman soldiers and a Viking warrior, I was this weekend and saw a roman centurion.
Wowsers thank you! Is that hotel the one that is now offices? 🤔
Wow that's truly incredible!!!
I love your channel
Regardless of where I died, I'd rather haunt my favorite pub.
I'm surprised you didn't mention Henry Martindale and the roman army.
Hi Malene I did mention in the description box about this not being included. 👻
@@ghostcasebook1266 Okay. I didn't read that. :)
Hi Malene no worries. I might cover Roman ghosts in a future episode so it could find its way into that maybe 🙋♀️

All pubs are haunted and not just in York as they have spirits behind the bar....
I lived in York and the building we rented was very haunted but then again everywhere is .anywhere people lived before you.
So many ghosts in Great Britain! I'm in California, there are a few ghosts reported here, but very rare.
I love York..very eiry place....I live near the now demolished Marbury Hall Marbury Cheshire...it was a beautufil scary old mansion with tales of the infamous Marbury Lady riding her horse amongst the grounds ... it would be a great place for you to investigate ..it will make for a great video...ty 👻
One time my right pointe shoe heel slipped down...no elastic...it was held on by ribbons and gripping the toes...Swan Lake Act 2, 20 minutes onstage..front line corps.
I was a total skeptic from the 60's, cameras have proven me wrong, I can't even imagine witnessing a ghost.
22:14 I find that rather touching if I’m being honest…
No mention of the Roman soldiers? 🤔
No only because they’ve been covered in lots of videos and I wanted to include less well known stories really, that’s the only reason. I did include this in the description box 👻🙋♀️🙏
Making a correction, I know personally, the Lady Sarah Brocklebanks Great Grand daughter her son and Sarah moved to Hull so the Grandad lived in Hull, she is seventy years old and uses her maiden name, which was her grandads
Sarah was nearly six foot tall, slim with dark hair and blue eyes, thanks
He was eight feet tall? Oh, my goodness!
Here is a video where a tour guide in the cellar describes the sighting - (there are many other videos about it too) -
ruclips.net/video/_AnQdvIYanQ/видео.html
Yes, I decided not to include that on this video only because it’s been covered so many times. I do know about the Roman Soldiers as that’s why I mentioned it in the description box below the video. 👻🙋♀️🙏
'Foot passengers'? Aren't they really pedestrians?
Foot passengers was how it was reported in the press at the time. I agree, we’d say pedestrians today.
🦇🦇🦇
i would say leave them be. I would ignore them and let them enjoy eachother. If they dont harm people i am the last person who would disturb them
Great content, But new narrator needed 😮
🙋♀️👻🙏
Those poor boys. M
Yes, I agree.
Well that’s disappointing settled down to listen in bed and after 3 secs it’s ads
York Does NOT have Ginnels and "Snickleway " is a book and some stories are second , third and even fifth hand and through the years the same spirits appearing centuries apart
Hi David, it’s snickelway, not snickleway. It was an expression coined by an author in 1983.
