Great video mate. Next time maybe you could do some temperature testing, power consumption on the GPU and the CPU under load. You gotta admit though Doom is an incredibly optimized game even under Proton.
Yes, that's the one thing I didn't do. I should have tested CPU and GPU temps but TBH I'm quite new to this and this fell off the radar. Will definitely keep in in mind for the next review. As for Doom Eternal, yep, it is very well optimised and will run on a potato. This is why I also tried using RTX and so on. I've actually tried many other (native and proton) games since then, and they run like a charm. So, the performance is there, even though the system sounds like a turbo jet most of the time!
I have bought a system76 .. it is expensive but in return I got too many problems . I paid 200 euros for the shipping cost warranty. My laptop comes back broken outside with a fan noise.
Overall, I'm very happy with it! There are three things which slightly annoy me. One is that the laptop is pretty loud, unless you switch to battery life mode, although to be fair I always run in nvidia mode - which is also horrible on battery life. Another is that I can't get game streaming from the laptop to any other device to work properly, especially for Proton games. I must clarify that this is a software issue and that System76 support were super supportive, even going as far as sending me a replacement laptop to see if I could get it working. Finally, if I reboot the laptop whilst an external Thunderbolt drive is connected, it won't boot, so I have to disconnect it. These issues aside, it's a workhorse and I enjoy using it everyday. I look forward to when System76 start actually making the laptops themselves, as I'm sure the build quality would greatly improve!
It runs at around 48C CPU and 51C GPU when idle. When under heavy load (video rendering, gaming) they both shoot up to low 90s. You’re not going to use this in your lap!
When not gaming, it’s quite quiet. Sometimes the fan spins up when loading a lot of stuff or opening up large files - but that’s in nvidia graphics mode. On hybrid or intel modes it’s even quieter.
Great video! very complete, Linux gaming finally comes and i really want a System76 laptop, maybe some day 🤞.

Do you recommend buying this laptop on 2022? I've heard too many complains about this like gpu dying after few months of use and etc.
Thanks for the review, what are your thoughts after 6 months?

:/ That really sucks
How are you liking this machine after two months? Any concerning things?

how bout the thermal sir? how muc do you get in idle and stressed mode? In Celsius

Do the fans noise kick off when you are not gaming ?

How is the battery life
Not great, even on ‘battery life’ mode with the Intel GPU mode, 4 hours at best.
