Great intro video! Couple of notes for your programming to possibly speed your process a bit: - Use the File>Export>To Applications to copy all the details/functions between radios that are similar. This works well if you can't clone them using the cloning wizard. - Use the View>Options>Frequency Options select under the Zone Channel Assignment check the block for "Tx Conventional Frequency Follows Rx Frequency". This helps you input the frequencies faster for both TX/RX. - The analog conventional will also do IDs/Aliases if you assign a personality to the MDC system and use the MDC alias lists in there.
Oh this is fantastic. I got my 2500i on Friday. I’ve spent the last two days immersed in CPS. I have learned so much already. I couldn’t find any solid tutorials anywhere on RUclips. Watching now! I’m so glad you’re doing this.
Dude, you are the man! I just bought a Motorola XTS2500 because I used them in the Marines, and they're super reliable. However, I never had to program them, so I had no idea what I was doing lol. Thanks dude!
This was an awesome tutorial! I've been trying to reprogram an XTS2500i with more vhf channels for work and this video answered every question. Thanks!!
Thank you so much for the vd!, I’m getting one XTS5000 and by far your vd has been the most informative and the best part is that you make it so easy to understand .
Definitely looking forward to the video about the depot software. I accidentally bought a radio that was conventional only and no p25 and wasn't about to return it because of my mistake.
Still waiting for more videos on complete tutorials. Got all 3 Astro software, tuner, CPS and depot. I would like to take a radio from nothing to something. Great stuff keep it up though!
This was hugely helpful! Thank you so much. I can positively say that us ham radio operators do NOT hate digital modes as long as they follow the band plan and done by fellow licensed operators.
*struggle bus accelerates* I think I may have a bad cable, or maybe the FPP is making it difficult as I cannot get any of my radios to read. I'll keep researching and reading, regardless this video was a great help. Stepping into non-"green gear" radios has been more daunting than I gave it credit!
His cables are alright. I have had issues with some of the wiring before. It is easier to buy the cheaper RS-232 cables and buying an adapter to convert serial to USB. The USB connectors he uses are mediocre quality. But they do work 99% of the time.
Ya know you can drag & drop entire feature groups/personalities/zones/EVERYTHING? You’re killing your self if you’re programming 2 codeplugs at the same time! And you can also just clone one radio to the other and adjust the very few fields that relate to the radios’ unique identifying parameters.
I think its fantastic you made a YT channel, i’d love to see more long form videos like this. As someone with limited radio knowledge (slightly more than the average end user) what sources would you recommend to expand my knowledge, but more limited clif notes style for “our type of people.” I’m not looking at becoming a commo expert right now, I have plenty of other topics that take priority right now. Maybe you could create a playlist on your channel with some select videos?
I have worked with CPS before. It’s great once you get the hang of all the menus. Can you do a video on scan lists for the XTS5000? I have made scan lists in the past, but still can’t figure out what all the options are when you go configure the scan list options, such as channel strapping, priority 1 and 2, channel revert, etc. If you can just explain what each one does that will be greatly appreciated.
I ain’t gonna lie I thought my computer didn’t come with it and then started looking looking at it and then I found it so I purchased me one waiting for my Motorola. XTS 2500 to come in my mail.
Thank you. This is very helpful. I just ordered several xts2500 radios for our group, and will be watching this several times while I get the programming figured out. You mentioned "Depot" a few times. What is it and what is it's purpose? Some info on cloning would be helpful, also, as we have quite a few of these radios on the way. Thanks again.
This was amazing to find and watch but I wish this went into more detail about programming analog repeater channels because I'm trying to get my local GMRS repeaters put in and working on my XTS 5000 which when I hit the ptt it wants to TX on a digital TG and can't figure out why Can you by chance can u go back into this and show how to program repeaters on here?
Hello, Astro is failing to read my XTS3000. im using an FTDI cable to convert 9pin to USB on win XP. Astro is recognizing the com port but is failing to read the radio. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks, looking forward to doing this myself soon. I don't see a trunking personalities dropdown on your screen so I assume your radio doesn't have the feature? I know another video showing that side of things though so I should be good there.
Is there a way to assign the squelch value to a button or switch on the radio, even in the menu system? Great video, looking forward to seeing more tutorials.
Good afternoon, my name is Federico De Angulo Ulloa and I'm part of a search and rescue team in Colombia called Civicos. We use radios for operations and we have a couple of XTS2500. We received two more radios but we weren't capable of programming them into the frequency. What we found different between the radios working and the new ones is that in the radio information in the programming information, the source on the working radios is depot but in the new radios is CPS and factory. It seems like we are missing admin privileges or something like that because some options are not editable. Another thing that is happening is that we are trying to edit some configurations on the working radios and some things don't work, we think we might be missing a plugging or something for the software. We are wondering if we need to reset it or something, I would love it if you could help us with that. We have been meeting these radios so if you could help that would be great, let me know how much would it cost.
bonjour 73 c'est une question un peu bizarre que je vais vous poser est-ce que ça serait possible de partager le fichier de configuration de la radio merci d'avance
Thank you for the video! I have an xts5000 uhf p25 high power (in car remote head unit) and I need help to program it. Where can I find hops to for dummies vids or instructions?
Hops? What do you mean by that? This radio is very similar to the way you would program your high-power UHF mobile rig. The only major difference would be programming/configuring your specific remote head on your particular radio..
i tried putting frs channel 1 on the channel options and its refusing to cooperate i have personality 2 set to non astro and i do not know where im messing up pls help

Where is the link for the programing cable
Adam, can you clone a radio withour a read password?
@tonyyy117 Negative. That, unfortunately, would negate the purpose of the read password.

@@SpankowitzHey, how are you! How can I contact you? I have the same problem
@@Spankowitz Me too! Me too! Pick me!!!...but seriously, if you're willing to share info on how to (safely) use depot, I'd love your assistance!
Благодарю Дорогой Друг! За столь интересную работу!!! XTS 5000 MOTOROLA это шедевр!!!
Думаю радиодюбители намного ближе друг ,к другу благодаря радио!!! Благодарю !!!!

Did you ever figure it out?
Great video, thanks. Please make video about another cool stuff like massages or encryption
Those cables from Bluemax are the best, imo. Big love for xts knowledge

Been looking for video layouts just like this
I still haven’t found where to download the cps!? Would love to dive into my old radios.
you dont download them, you create them in depot
Thank you. This is very helpful. I just ordered several xts2500 radios for our group, and will be watching this several times while I get the programming figured out.

Do you have a video regarding the PTT Side tones?
Does anyone know if you can convert an EFJ5100 code plug to a XTS code plug?

What program software do you download . I have a windows laptop .
Hey mate, one question does the XTS5000 come with a read password?

What you be able to program the Motorola XTL2500 & XTL5000?
Do you have to have a computer to program channels?
My radios dont connect, i keep getting open radio failed, idk what to do
Hello were can i buy that program cable?
Do you know if the same software will work for the xts1500 as the xts5000?
damn it now i want to get an xts
Have you used channel picklist at all to speed up zone copying?
Yes but TBH there are better ways to copy codeplug data such as top-level drag and drop. I will cover this in a future video.
How can I contact you offline? I cannot seem to find an email for you...etc Thanks
you can run the cps on win 10?
Just confirmed it’s running fine on Win 10 so far so good.
is the software free? where can I buy or get the software for the radio to read?
OMG
Why? My Baofung is just as good
Does this work for APX 6000 radios?
No. APX radios require APX CPS with the appropriate software version per the radio firmware.
Can you do a video on how to program APX radios? I have a few, just don’t know how to program them. I have the CPS as well.
how tf u copy N paste into CPS
