Gotta give Hassli credit for trying to get creative to avoid punishment by having another jersey on underneath the original... Alas, he should have read the rule book more thoroughly.
it reminds me of Rivaldo in the world cup semifinals in 2002 when the ball hit him in the thigh, which caused him to wait for about 2 seconds, grab his face, and fall to the ground...
Neven Music the goalkeeper grabbed the players leg. Which denied a possible goal scoring opportunity which is an immediate red, if I explained that right
I still dont agree with it being a yellow card to take shirt off. With some of the celebrations we see that is lame and not always consistently enforced.
Oh he earned it all right, but it's ridiculous in that he was shown two yellows within thirty seconds of each other. Nasco earned his too, but that one was ridiculous in that Colorado had their keeper sent off like thirty seconds into the match.
It's amazing how no one in the comments are capable of understanding English. The decisions to give a red card is not what is ridiculous, it is the behavior that led up to the card that is.
The verbal warning is actually NOT in the Laws of the game. It is something the referees came up with to be flexible. The Laws can't state "give a verbal warning", so it's a yellow.
Most Ridiculous Red Cards in MLS? I have an issue with that title. Every single one of those red cards, in my view and a SFA Referee, was correct! So I fail to understand why the MLS is undermining their own referees publicly. 1) Saunders (2011)(Correct Red Card) - The defender has to share the blame here, and should have been shown a yellow card for heading the ball out of the GK's hands (unsportsmanlike behaviour). However, Saunders then reacts and elbows him in the face. Definite red card. 2) Hassle (2011)(Correct Red Card) - Despite having a 2nd playing jersey on underneath, he knew he was on a yellow card and he still took his jersey off. Easy call for the referee - red card! 3) Nasco (2014)(Correct Red Card) - This is one of the easier calls. Denied the attacker an obvious goal scoring opportunity by pulling him down in the 6 yard box. No other card could've been shown. 4) Cole (2016)(Correct Red Card) - I feel the first yellow card for time wasting was harsh. There was no need, the referee could have just added time on at the end of the half. However, Cole knew he was on a yellow card, yet made the tackle anyway. The tackle itself was high and deserved a straight red card as it endangered the safety of his opponent. 5) Corrales (2003)(Correct Red Card) - The player on the field made the most of this and should have been ashamed. Yet, Corrales still strikes the player with something (a jersey?) and by the letter of the law, must see red. 6) Petke (1999)(Correct Red Card) - You won't find many calls easier than this. The commentator said it was harsh, which irritates me because commentators have consistently shown for years that they do not know the Laws of the Game. Pete disn't like the call against him. He smirks, kisses the ball and tosses it to the referee. A clear show of dissent and deserved a yellow card. This was his second, so he had to walk. 7) Garcia (2015)(Correct Red Card) - Finally, Garcia. Simply put, this is another stupid case of a player on a yellow card taking their top off to celebrate a goal and receiving a 2nd yellow. Players know that's the punishment for taking off their short, so it is their own fault when they get another yellow. The referees in this clip have all applied the Laws of the Game correctly and do not get the credit they deserve. I would love to see referees (such as those in Scotland) decide not to officiate games due to poor treatment, and see how the leagues cope with no referees. Standards will drop because of draft replacements. Everyone makes mistakes. Managers make mistakes, players make mistakes. So why does it only get highlighted when a referee makes a mistake? I think it should be a fair playing field. If people want referees demoted for making a big mistake, then if a star player makes a big mistake (like misses an open goal) then he should be demoted for a few games. Put him in the reserves. Sadly, I don't see it happening.
I think the point of the title was more "look at the ridiculous ways players get themselves a red card" than "look at the terrible red cards given by referees"
+Raider025 Thank you. As evidenced by the replacement officials in the NFL a few years ago, people wanted the regular referees back when replacement officials proved to not be at the same standard. It would be the same with football.
the goalie was holding the ball in one arm which makes it a free ball, so the header was fine. also, I don't think Saunders meant to elbow the guy in the face.
None of these are as bad as Tony Tchani getting a red for TFC vs Columbus when he hugged a fan after his first goal. Kept his shirt on and everything. First half hour.
1:58 that flop after the towel flip is the most ridiculous thing in this video. it wasn't even one of those whipping stingers, just a swat and he's down like he got shot.
Americans should stick to American Football - they weren't able to make the World Cup this year even though they they are the third biggest country in the world.
Literally all these calls were correct. This video isn't about the referee, it's about how ridiculous these players were for getting carded for the reasons they did.
Here's what's ridiculous. We all KNOW that taking your jersey off in celebration is a yellow card. But they ALL look surprised and shocked when they get booked for it.
the rule is; It's illegal to celebrate a goal by pulling your shirt above/over your head. It don't matter if you're wearing a second, or even a third shirt under it.
On the first clip, I can't really blame the goalie for doing what he did, since someone on the other team was right by the goalie when he shouldn't have been
@HurricaneStormTrackingTeam I wouldn’t necessarily say accidentally, but either way, elbowing someone in the face is inexcusable accidental or not, just like handballs, but not a red.
on taking the shirt of being a bookable offence , its a "special" rule for the sponsors of the teams, scoring a goal is the best time for advertisers to be seen on the shirt , so hence the "special" rule.
Ridiculous might mean ridiculous of these players to commit these fouls but just in case anybody thinks these refs are just bad, here you go: 1. Correct decision, Law 12 violent conduct (elbow swing, even if he missed). 2. Correct decision, Law 12 removal of jersey on the field of play (on the field of play meaning he hasn't been substituted or red carded already). 3. Correct decision, Law 12 denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal scoring opportunity by an offence punishable by a free kick. 4. Correct decision, Law 12 one for delaying restart of game, second for unsporting behaviour, committing a foul which interferes with or stops a promising attack (Cole gets none of the ball). 5. Correct decision, Law 12 violent conduct (struck an opponent with his towel, even if he missed). 6. Wrong decision, the ref could have seen it as dissent (Law 12) but I wouldn't. 7. Correct decision, Law 12 removal of jersey on the field of play (stupid law but also stupid because the players should know the law).
How is a red card for taking your shirt off ridiculous? It's in the f#$&$#@ rules, every ref in MLS enforces it, you got a yellow 12' ago, and you took your shirt off in celebration... If it was described to a referee via binary telegraph to a temple in the Himalayas, the call could be adequately made and the referee in the mountains would have all the necessary information to make the decision. If you wanna argue it shouldn't be a yellow to celebrate that way, that's an argument to have and not unreasonable either. But referees enforcing long standing laws is not a ridiculous red. They used like 3 instances of it in this video. That's why you only do it if you're not on a caution, and it's in the last 15 min of an important game. Otherwise, you lack self control and it's a detriment to your team
You could add Calum Mallace's red vs TFC. What a horrendous showing by the referee, not just for that call, but throughout the game! Good thing that red was rescinded because it was a terrible call.
What the heck? The ones where they dived are ridiculous yes, but the ones when they took off they’re shirts are not ridiculous they get a yellow card for that and two yellow cards are a red, Whoever made this has no idea about Soccer/football
Itzen Orozco I guess to Blatter it was automatically excessive because it's above and beyond the normal reaction to a goal. As a referee myself, I can't really explain why.
Its all about Marketing and Brands wanting to be shown on tv. The player has the sponsors logos on their shirts, if they take the shirt off the sponsors complain. Its a bullshit law.
Martin Brady Theses a difference between following the rules and reading the game. MLS refs are just stupid and really have no idea how to not ruin a game

This is why football is broken, even the official channel of the league can see these red cards were a refereeing mistake and yet it still happenes, any other sport wouldnt make the mistake, or would go back to rectify it
1) Even if the original foul is called (and carded!) correctly, that's still Violent Conduct and a red. The fact that it was retaliation to a foul, though, does NOT matter. 2) Sorry. That rule is there for a reason, regardless of what's underneath -- and you'd think they'd know better by now! 3) 2 yards from the goal line? Yeah, that's a Goal Scoring Opportunity denied! 4) Probably the first one where I have some question, more on the second yellow for the tackle than anything. 5) Card the thrower for simulation, but that is red for Violent Conduct on the sub. 6) Dissent -- and one of the reasons referees never enforce the Laws. Because you'd see about six of these a game. Ref is correct here. That was an action of dissent. 7) See #2.
3:23 looks justified. And taking off the jersey (bad habit imo) required a yellow card. Every football interested kid in the world knows that, but the pros always wondering and crying about that.
Not only, people in USA know nothing about football (cause this is real football, not running with ball in your hands), but also their major football leauge knows nothing about rules in this beautiful game. Every single card in this video was earned.
And you know nothing about reading! The point of the video isn’t that the decisions are ridiculous, it’s that the events leading up to the card are ridiculous. Keep your bigotry in Europe.
0:10 This one is correct. 1:10 Absolutely correct. 1:50 No discussion. Player is just stupid. 3:00 Correct. Stupid player. Not that it was the first time that a player gets booked for that.
In American sports, sendings off tend to be a compulsory substitution either immediately or after a short period of time, not one player short for game. I am surprised MLS has not incorporated this?
Footballers who remove their jerseys during post-goal celebrations are to receive automatic yellow cards. ... state: "Removing one's shirt after scoring is unnecessary and players should avoid such excessive displays of joy.". ~FIFA~ 22 June 2004
Other than the two at 2:00 and 2:20, all of those were perfectly legitimate red cards. What's the fuss? I feel like most of the negative comments come from people who didn't actually watch the video.

Ridiculous might mean ridiculous of these players to commit these fouls but just in case anybody thinks these refs are just bad, here you go:

6) Dissent -- and one of the reasons referees never enforce the Laws. Because you'd see about six of these a game. Ref is correct here. That was an action of dissent.
7) See #2.
Only in "soccer" lol
Yup most popular sport on the planet
Its football
3:23 looks justified.
And taking off the jersey (bad habit imo) required a yellow card. Every football interested kid in the world knows that, but the pros always wondering and crying about that.
Not only, people in USA know nothing about football (cause this is real football, not running with ball in your hands), but also their major football leauge knows nothing about rules in this beautiful game. Every single card in this video was earned.
And you know nothing about reading! The point of the video isn’t that the decisions are ridiculous, it’s that the events leading up to the card are ridiculous. Keep your bigotry in Europe.
The title is stupid and irritating.
It can be interpreted either way, but I agree with Karol1719
Latinos also do not know anything about soccer, except brazil ... LOL
There are different types of football, Gaelic football, Australian football, American football .... who told you that this is true football.
the first one is violent conduct the keeper did not have ten fingers on the ball making that header perfect
watching lenhardt get elbowed in the face never gets old
I love MLS 😅
All deserved red but these were pretty amusing to watch.
0:10 This one is correct.
1:10 Absolutely correct.
1:50 No discussion. Player is just stupid.
3:00 Correct. Stupid player. Not that it was the first time that a player gets booked for that.
BIG fan of Chris Penso and Baldo! Let's go yellow team!
2:00 Oscar al mejor actor
The reds that Toledo gave out were justified but at the same time VERY Toledo :D
"RED CARDED, YOU'RE OUT OF THE PITCH!!"
Brek Shea's red card vs the earthquakes needs to be on here. Most blatant dive I have ever seen, and one of the worst ref decisions I've ever seen
At 1:30 im the kid on the phone lmao😂😂😂
I want to replay the full match where can I find it
2:01 nice dive
Everyone is saying MLS refs are trash when EPL and literally every other league has shit refs as well
HAHAHAHAHH HE HAD A SHIRT UNDER IT HAHAHH
If a player makes a scene when they get barely touched, they should also receive a yellow for simulation
we need to see a "worst ref desicions in mls" video. though there'd be a lot of them
In American sports, sendings off tend to be a compulsory substitution either immediately or after a short period of time, not one player short for game. I am surprised MLS has not incorporated this?
This is just like NA online gaming :D
Love the red for dissent
Footballers who remove their jerseys during post-goal celebrations are to receive automatic yellow cards. ... state: "Removing one's shirt after scoring is unnecessary and players should avoid such excessive displays of joy.".

The Mike Petka one- how on Earth would the commentators know if it was harsh or not? They have no clue what was actually said
The towel flick and the kissing the ball before throwing bit to the ref were harsh. The rest were justified.
Other than the two at 2:00 and 2:20, all of those were perfectly legitimate red cards. What's the fuss? I feel like most of the negative comments come from people who didn't actually watch the video.
Was shocked until I saw who was officiating the game.
