4:11- After Shaw fires 2 shots (blacks), you can see that he reflexively blinks his left eye after discharging the first shell from the breech, and the second discharged shell actually hits him in the cheek!
Very tortuous story indeed ! A search for the man named Aguila .After pointing in different directions with suitable red herrings Aguila is revealed ,but it's alright we already know . The fun is in the outrageous relating of the tale ; human bodies are mere props to be shot, hanged or diced for maximum schlock effect . There's good melodrama from Shaw ,Savalas and Landau - Savalas decides to leave prematurely , inexplicably . I wonder what attracted these actors to the script ...
1971 best time in My Life that was back in 1970's to 1980's. The life was easy. I was born in that year 1970/71.! Never feeld better. As this film movie it's a great classic Western Film movie 🎥🎞️🎬📽️👍💯
Don’t miss this movie it’s got an oscar deserving role from Shaw. Fans of Jaws will also be happy seeing Shaw in another great role made even greater still by one of the most believable actors of all time. Every time I watch him he convinced me he really is the person
I also enjoy Robert Shaw in John Frankenheimer's Black Sunday 1977 with Bruce Dern and Peter Yates The Deep 1977 with Nick Nolte. He was a great actor whose life was cut way too short
@@fenris6051 Actually, when I saw it on the Army post outside Indianapolis in 1971 it was indeed called, A Town Called Bastard. Of course it was easier to say "hell" than "bastard" publicly in the U.S. back then; so it was likely retitled for general release. This by far the best print I've seen since then.
What the! Mexican revolutionaries would have never done that! On the contrary, the Federales are always the bad guys in Mexican movies. What´s more, the Federales, would have killed a priest if ordered by a high-ranking officer! Whoever wrote the script, should´ve have done their homework first. By the way, I´m Mexican and a tenured professor...
This is one sick (and confusing) western. I saw in the Army and had to explain the plot to my buddies. By then I was an expert in unraveling the plots of Italian westerns. Great score, by the way. Took years for me to track down the soundtrack recording.
Opening scene of attack on the town - like, no guards present watching the perimeter for intrusions? This whole movie was preppsterous and the sound quality was poor, so I missed key conversations that must have meant something. Telly was gone too soon.
Hollywood legends Telly "Kojak" Savalas, Robert "Jaws" Shaw and Martin "Tucker" Landau with Stella Stevens in this classic western. A true 1971 western classic masterpiece.

Spoiler alert. Click on this 1:34:50 only after you have watched the movie and wonder who Aguila was. After he whispers his name, the camera follows him the rest of the movie. In the end, the woman gets the wrong man.
That was strange: I heard a singer at the dance scene in the Saloon but didn't see him? Some of the bad guys have the voice of Largo from "Thunderball" (1965) which is weird..?And why did Telly Savalas have such a meaningless part?!🤣😂

What was this film originally called? 'Hell' or Bastard.
English/white man playing Mexican hero is an insult!
A lot to be said for this film.

Enjoyed seeing it again, I saw this in late 1971, it was a double feature with " Captain Apache The title was " A Town called Hell "
Typical western, Great Actors, only thing is the audio is too low....cant hardly hear it
Before the actual movie it says it's called "A town called Bastard" don't know where "Hell" came from but i suppose it sounds better!

Good enough spaghetti western , sometimes hard to hear what they speak but that's only like 10 procent of the time.
