    Question: why ML is used when the items are categorical? I see this in the literature as well but not clear why not using MLR

      It depends on whether you want regular (ML) or robust (MLR) standard errors. The parameter estimates are the same no matter whether you use ML or MLR.

      @@QuantFish Thanks for the feedback. However, it is still unclear why ML is used for categorical data in IRT models (particlilry when items are binary)
