My family all live in the same house, my parent’s house, together. My dad passed in 2006. My momma passed last year, but she wanted us to be with her in her last years. At first I was just her companion and daughter, but she started having falls and then developed Dementia about 11 years ago. I became her full-time care-giver until I got ill in 2019. My illness took about 2 years out of my life and I couldn’t work…it was good I was home with a roof over my head. As a family of seven now, my sisters and their husbands, my daughter and niece all live here together. We are a missionary family and we cannot afford to live separately. But my parents homesteaded the house just so all of us would have a home, when not on the mission field. It was more important for them that we would be able to continue in ministry than worry about our housing. My daughter got to live with her grandparents and aunts and uncles, which has been a great thing for her. Her best friend is her cousin, who lives in the same home with her. We didn’t have to put Mama into a nursing home because we took care of her. Same with our dad. I was honored to take care of my mom - after all she did for me and my sisters…She was in her house with her loved ones when she passed. I sat next to her the night before and was able to sing hymns to her for over an hour while she slept. I feel she was blessed and so were we to be able to share so much life together. It’s only our culture that looks down on this. And culture doesn’t always get things right! There’s a lot to be said about how we live. You know what a family truly is, and I commend you. Bless you as a family within a family.

As a kid on a farm, we had five generations under one roof. It was WONDERFUL!!! Wish more families could experience this type of lifestyle. It was such a blessing.

The people making those negative comments don't have family they are close with who are supportive and helping. There is nothing wrong with living with and helping family, especially grandparents and their kids and grandkids living together. Multigenerational families living together is wonderful as long as it's a healthy and loving environment.

Personally, I find nothing wrong with living with a family member temporary. In this situation, everyone is able to make new memories, reconnect, and get acquainted. What I do have a problem with is when you invite people in your home and they have nothing to offer financially or don't make an attempt to help contribute to chores. 😊

Alot of cultures live together as families and if you ask me it makes the family unit stronger. My mother died from cancer in 22 and that was 1 thing I wish I did was move in with her before her passing.
