The music of this song is based on the famous “Adagio in G minor of Albinoni” named after Italian composer Tomaso Albinoni (1671 - 1751) which was in fact written by Italian musical historian and composer Remo Giazotto in 1958. She should have been a much bigger star in the US than she is, unfortunately, radio stations felt like they had to pick between her and Celine Dion, while both are voices of a generation.
She would have been huge as a Broadway performer. Her talent would fill an entire theater to its brim. This woman was cheated somehow as a young talent. Maybe she was just ‘ too much’ of everything at the time and somehow was misled.

The version she does in Italian is also very moving and awesome, it was recorded a bit earlier in her career, at least it looks that way.
It was around the same time, as she was promoting the first English album. She performed the Italian version several times on French TV after the album was released. (The Italian version was included as a bonus track on the US version of the album.)
@@sinceritysf Yup, I got that first self title CD, actually bought a few back then, wore them out I played them so much. In the Italian Adagio version Lara looks much younger to me than she was in 2000, the time the US CD came out, or there about. In the video I watch, after she sings, she seems so surprised at the reaction from the crowd, as if to be wondering...."wow, are they applauding for me?"
