      Definitely one of the best scenes in the entire episode. This single scene really turned around my view of Ayesa from "kind of rude" to "wow this guy's actually pretty nice." I think this was Dev's key character development moment; the point he goes from "profit/being first" over everything to science being above all else.

      This was hinted in S2. IRL, LED was invented back in 60s, but it wasn't widely commercialized until 2010s. In FAM S2, you will notice that NASA had replaced DSKY of guidance computer on Apollo capsule and LSAM with terminal-like LED display. The shear amount of money poured into Apollo program drove these technology to mature; then NASA licensed them to self fund the space program, endlessly accelerating the technology. Imagine all the R&D done to fight war on Earth was instead used to build better spacecraft and suits, then pour in military budget that is 10x of that to mass produce it (US military budget is 800+ billion in 2024, NASA IRL during the peak of Apollo Program is just 55 billion in 2024 dollar). Perhaps the intent of investment is fight war in space, but the same technology that enables war will benefit all mankind despite the devious intent.

    • @cboulet
      @cboulet  9 месяцев назад +4

      Hell, I wish I knew. I don't, though. I'm pretty sure both "segments" of the soundtrack that played during the scene were specifically scored, using leitmotifs from earlier in the show (specifically _Hurry to Watch_ & the scoring for Neil & Buzz getting back to Columbia), but the only part of the score that has its own song in the soundtrack is Hurry to Watch, which is *extremely* annoying.

    We know from the trailer that Aleida will be involved in a bid to capture an extremely valuable asteroid. Presumably, she’ll be working for Helios at the time. What’s Dev going to do if Kelly Baldwin discovers life on said asteroid.

      Dev Ayesa would fucking DESPISE Elon Musk.

    • @Catamount1412
      @Catamount1412 4 месяца назад +1

      It's hilarious to see the hating replies to this, not because of how much Elon's endeavors continue to push forward without their permission, but because of how much the sentiment shows how little they grasp Dev Ayesa.
      Elon Musk went from having an absolute pittance as space budgets go and no functional craft, even contemplating begging the Russians for engines, to having the most prolific launch provider on Earth under his belt in barely over a decade. A decade after that, he now has the craft with the longest consecutive safety record under its belt on top of now being the most launched rocket by comical margins, and within a few years the United States will possess the first, second and third largest heavy lift rockets on Earth and two of those will be SpaceX Craft. SpaceX has dropped launch costs through the floor, revitalized NASA's manned operations with Commercial Crew (and by their own estimates saved them tens of billions), and is currently simultaneously developing a single craft into both the largest lunar lander in human history by wide margins, the kind of thing that might enable real building on the Moon, and the only craft that is currently aiming even vaguely towards being able to carry an appreciable number of humans to Mars.
      Dev wouldn't evaluate Musk on his social media antics, or undeniably at-times questionable social or political views - in fact anyone who bothered to actually watch the show would see Dev as an imperfect, at times out-of-touch person himself, with his fair share of questionable motivations and decisions and views. What Dev would despise is focusing on that, for him or Elon, instead of on the tangible work propelling humanity. He no doubt would despise the people who besmirched von Braun too, focusing on things irrelevant instead of the only job that matters: pushing forward. Anyone who doesn't get that simply doesn't get Dev, his views, his motivations, or how utterly ruthless he could be.

      @@pokemonfanmario7694 I feel like I'd made my point reasonably sufficiently, but just the same I thank you for your efforts to also make it for me.
      First, your comment basically says that the hatred of Elon Musk goes hand-in-hand with lack of depth of thought on the matter. People who actually consider the various sides of the issue appreciate him. People who's analysis begins and ends in 12 word sound bytes don't. I... don't find myself disagree with you.
      Secondly, you're just doing exactly what I accused you of. Elon Musk's efforts have pushed humanity further towards being an interplanetary civilization in the last 10 years than the efforts of every governmental space agency combined did in the prior 30. Meanwhile your focus, rather than being on the progression of the species, rather than being on the work, is on some irrelevant mean tweet from 6 years ago that basically no one but you remembers. What you're doing? Dev would despise.
