Hi Eric, That looked like a lot of fun. I use to thermal rc gliders back in the day. It was fun to see how long you could stay aloft. Take care, Be safe.
Awesome video. I stumbled on one of Tucker Gotts vids and learned about your incredible sport from watching his channel. So stoked to watch you self launch into a cross country flight. I love watching you get right into that core with the birds. As a sailplane pilot I'm always jealousy watching them from a hundred yards out at 45kts. Hope you get puffy cus and sun!
hey Eric ... great video and thanks for making it. I am an experienced glider pilot and have my own 15M sailplane - so I know thermals - but not with a soft collapsible wing! Once I earn my 200hrs of paramotor experience I hope to start thermalling like this. I especially like your flying with the turkey vultures near the end. Again fantastic video and spot on cautions for less experienced pilots!
Thanks much bob. Thanks for bringing this video to the top too... My brother passed in a tragic car accident yesterday. Seeing this video is a huge blessing. Thanks so much!
Thanks Bob, I meant what I said. Your comment on this old video was a huge blessing. Drop me a line any time you're ready to learn to thermal, maybe we can go together.
AviatorShow - thanks Eric ... very kind of you to say that. I truly hope to fly with you someday .. I’m about to be 71 yrs young, and am just beginning ppg via a trike arrangement. Please don’t shoot me, but I could not wait for the backlog at aviatorppg but I assure you, you were my first choice .. because my research proved beyond any doubt you guys are the best! I will be contacting Mary[?] about transitioning to foot launch next year and possibly scheduling training with you or possibly Costa Rica. Anyway, I need to get formal ppg 1-2-3 ratings so I can fly at WOW, and other regulated sites. PS - I was trained in Deltona by Kurt Fister. Might retrial here in Utah with CHris Santacroce if we can ever sync up calendars. My RUclips channels are ppgbobfather & soaringbobfather.
AviatorShow That's kind of you! Well lets try it out: What do you think of normal paragliding (winch or mountain) thermalling as a preface to paramotor thermalling? I find there to be quite some discussions about wingcontrol in paramotor vs paragliding. Currently I intend to start paramotor flying and do winch paragliding at the moment. I (as well as a lot of others I see) enjoy watching your video's, so keep em coming! :)
Oh man, I highly advise it! We put a lot of effort into coaching our flat land students, but if the opportunity is there for straight paragliding, it is a great opportunity to fly! (plus, I love freeflying)
AviatorShow I tought so. Thank you for your reply and have a lot of fun flying! Cannot wait to get my own gear, unfortunately not cheap so have to wait a bit. I will buy a NOVA Ion3 M, fits nicely with my weight and can be used for paragliding and paramotor.
I've noticed in the last couple videos that air conception rigs are showing up. I really like the idea of the air conception ( I fly a tank it feels like). Are you flying the new 190cc nitro motor? How do you like the air conception so far?
Caleb Pharr Hey there Caleb, I've been flying them for a few months now.. Only the 130cc, but the new 200cc is on order :) We like them a lot. The difference in our school has been amazing. We went from 20% of students damaging equipment to ZERO... We've seen the light, so to speak, heh. Come fly one any time. You'll love it.
Damn, awesome video! It's such a shame you don't get as many views, you really deserve it imo. Just out of interest, what do you do for a living currently? And how's it going with your fam? Keep up the awesome work!
danoontje446 Hey man! I'm primarily running the paramotor flight school... Still working a bit on media stuff like this, and helping with the management of a few friends... Life is good! My family is incredible too, three kids, all doing really well and growing like crazy. Hope you are well!
AviatorShow Damn that's a pretty sweet job if you ask me ;). I didn't know you had three already haha, been a while since you did like a regular vlog. Like I said, keep doing what you're doing, I'll be here upvoting everything that comes along!
Eric I have been really enjoying your videos! I sure wish your class was closer to me as I am on the other side of the states! If we join your class is airfare and lodging included in the price of the school? Thanks for all the great videos...we all love seeing them.
Hey man, so glad you're enjoying them! Sadly, no... Nothing else included... But we do have some good folks teaching all over the US, let me know if you want us to put you in touch with them!
This was a long time ago. Maybe you should do a new thermaling (don't try to use the spell checker on that word...) video. Even though you shouldn't do it when you're inexperienced, goals are good and to me with my experience in RC sailplanes, it's ultimate flying. Maybe soaring with an Ozone Mojo Power wing?
hey eric can you do some flying videos with music? I miss those haha those are so chill. I see you did a couple short versions of those in 4k. would be cool to get a longer version
Hey aviator! once again amazing video! i really want to do this myself, but with studying and moving out coming around the corner, how much would it cost me to start this? i just want to know if i can have a hope of this after i'm done with college. thanks!
***** Heya! Thanks man.... Cost wise, our school is around $2k to learn... Then, to buy your own gear, expect to spend $6,000-$15,000 depending on what you want... After that, it's just $8 per hour or so!
I'm getting really interested in paramotor flying, could you explain to me how thermaling works and on what weather conditions you can have that type of flying? As a beginner do you recommend flying mid day? Thank you
Hello from Ireland. Im a pg pilot. What hang point do you use. Mid or low ? If you use A Vario for thermalling you will get addicted to the beeping. Its quite amazing how you can map out a thermal in your mind. I have been flying for eight years up to 8000ft in 10 ms thermals. How much do I need to learn for ppg ? Full power full power and away you go ?. Thanks so much. What motor do you reccomend for a ppg beginner. 180 lbs six foot tall.
Why is it so dangerous to thermal with a paramotor. For gilders it's a natual thing to do and even students can fly solo in thermal conditions. What makes it different to you?
B14kh4r4z Hey man! It's largely our angle of attack, under power... Because it's so massively increased from a glider's standard position, the risk of collapse is much higher.
@@577buttfan never seen a fatal collapse from higher altitude, all the fatalities is due the low altitude fly which is always very dangerous activity.
Three more years. That's what I want to do. A year to get in shape. Another year to train. Another year to train some more. Then.... Thermalling in a paramotor.
@@lmerry213. I've dropped 30 pounds in the last 10 months. It doesn't sound too radical, but it is the right direction. I still have 20 to go. Thanks for asking. I'm getting there... low and slow.
You can, I'd encourage you to consider beginning on an EN-A rated beginner wing though. I love thermaling the Mojo! Consider coming down for a thermaling clinic too!
Great video Eric! Are you still teaching paramotor thermaling? Do you have some type of program like your PPG training (which looks awesome BTW)? I have my PPG 2 rating but only about 30 hours so far. However, I hope to have 200 hrs by next spring if all goes well. I heard you were booked over a year out for regular PPG training so I'm asking now a little ahead of time lol.
Hey there Brian! we're booked out a super long time for standard training but I LOVE sharing advanced courses... Let me know your schedule for next Spring (Feb / March would be good). Happy to help if we can!
Thanks for the quick reply! I'm trying to get 2-3 flights a week in so might be ready by the end of March (I'm in south east Florida so I can fly all year too :-). How far in advance do I need to schedule? What is the best way to contact you for scheduling? Thanks again!

Great video on catching thermals! Going to have to give this a try one day. Thx for sharing.

Also alot higher risk of snags if collapse,if you snag you could go face down spiral into your death...unless you get the laundry out in time :)
