- How to use a Hanna handheld Colorimeter for nitrates.
Some of the aquariums are reading 0 ppm nitrates and other aquariums are reading 23 ppm nitrates. The aquarium that is higher in nitrates needs to have the Plenum bubbler slow down.
Sir kindly make a series about water parameters and how to check it you know that the information out there is confusing and not reliable we didn’t even know before your videos about orp so please make a series
Thank you for this tutorial Dr. Novak, this makes me confident in owning one! Do you also have one for ammonia?
Yes
Thanks doc 🔥
So this can be used for a freshwater aquarium?
I have 1-2 ppm of ammonia straight from my tap water. I want to do large water changes for my goldfish weekly. Should I just increase my dosage of dechlorinator since my filter processs the ammonia relatively quickly?
Dr. Novack, I believe the instructions say shake for 2 minutes. Are your results the same after shaking for two minutes.
Getting the API test kit mixed up with the Hanna test kit.
I think people would like to see a before and after when slow down your bubbler, so they have visual comparison, if you would be so kind.
Hi, for people from other parts of the world, who dont have access to laterite and baked cat litter. What can they do? Can they use those baked red bricks? and/or for cat litter......? appreciate.
Do you have any other products you can use that is similar to kitty litter: like they also sell products that like oil dry for example is one of them we have in the US that's basically like kitty litter
@@anoxicfiltrationplenums Will look for oil dry. Thanks
The laterite available here has 40% Fe2O3 but 10% Al2O3... is the aluminum safe to use for fish?
The aluminum is not really gonna do much to help as far as plant growth or anything else. It should be OK.
the api test kits i think there all poisonis api defo is there all cemicals
So having a nitrate reading of 23 is ok for goldfish?
Not really but I'm working on seeing if I can get that down to a more reasonable level.
I thought the Hornwort is supposed to lower nitrates?
Me too, but sometimes plants could be a little tricky on doing what you think they should be doing. After all look at the Pathos and how people claim that it removes nitrates and others claim it doesn't work at all.
why is the NO3 creeping up?
Edit: I found the pothos had very negligble effect overall on my aquarium. It takes a large amount of pothos [ 36 x 4 x4" ] and a very long time to bring down NO3 to zero in static water. Pothos are good for aesthetics. Maybe someone had better results?
There's so much different information out there about pathos and do they work or not?
Glad I never tried any plants 🙏

Too much time involved. There are just as accurate tests that take seconds.
I use iDip test kit now.
