Really good video! We will be there October 19th for 10 days for our second stay at the Barcelo Maya Palace section and our third at the complex, with our first stay that the Caribe section. You mentioned food, and I agree when it comes to our stay at the Caribe. If your looking for really good food, its the Palace. Our October stay will be our 11th trip to this area, and the Palace has the best food of any we have had to date. I've been to this Barcelo total of 5 times, so I was pretty confident about taking lots of first timers there, everyone ended up thanking me for a wonderful time. First time I was there more than 10yrs ago, the buffets weren't even air-conditioned, but they have made so much improvements and it gets better every time I come back. And since they built the shopping mall with the 24hrs bar and mini buffet, it became my deciding factor. (This 24hrs bar and the mini buffet is also inclusive). I've been to lots of other resorts, but this one always bring me back, nice staff always smiling and courteous, extremely clean premises, good drinks, no watered down, etc... If you are still deciding, you can ask me for more specifics, I know this place very well.

been going there every October for 5 years, in my opinion of one best resorts for kids, about 6 pools for kids, water park, kids disco, Carnaval, kids club, kids painting, kids classes, dolphinaria at the hotel, etc.....my kids love it.
I was in this resort about 3 years ago. I like the food especially in the restaurant. The shows are nice . Some parts of the beach have rocky areas but i love the fact that there are turtles hanging around the beach. I stayed at Barcelo Maya Palace and got the privileged package. We got free access to see the Dolphin show and free sauna at the spa.
My favorite part of the beach was that dock that had the big blue metal float anchored to it. You could jump into the water and hang onto it if you're not a great swimmer. When you looked down into the crystal clear water, 100's of fish would be there, swimming around, minding their business. It was amazing!
How is the beach, especially the water. Are any significant number of stones? I have been three years ago to Grand Princesses R.Maya resort, which was an excellent resort but the water was full of stones.
hi jaysdmc, hope you and your family are well and not suffered covid.i did get to Mexico and did stay a the Bahia luxury Principe akumal . I notice you haven't been back for a while . this resort the grand Maya which you review superbly I might add .does it do any karaoke . when is the best time to get a good deal there . cheers .take care regards Dave
Great video. We love coming to Mexico as well and was just wondering you mention other resorts you have been to and the food was better. Would you recommend 1 or 2 as the best you have been too?
I went here a few years ago with the family and loved it. My 2 year old daughter loved the kids water park and took her naps in the hammocks next to the beach. I thought the food was good compared to other resorts. I would go back.
I've stayed at this resort twice. Its a great resort. I agree, the food is just OK. But still I'd go back, the staff and overall experience is worth the trip. As far as not being busy, you were there is August. The winter months the resort is full. That said, there is still plenty of room at the pool and beach. You will not fight for chairs or beach space. Both visits to this resort were in February (2013 and 2014) - keep in mind, if you are traveling to the area in February - its spring break. Spring Break brings the University and College kids who consume too much free booze and make total asses of themselves. And, like you said, the booze is not watered down.
Was there last week. I have to say your review of this place was SPOT ON! Thanks you so much! And BTW, it was at about 90% capacity..... and still did not have any issues with people and time to get an order! Thanks so much for the review. BTW, Santiago in the Seafood Restaurant was AWESOME!
Which Barcelo did you stay? We’re heading to Mexico in June, booked the Barcelo Tropical. It’s going to be our first time. I appreciate your review. Very helpful
We also stayed at the Tropical. Please let me know how it is. My wife and I are considering coming back to this resort. Outside of the Iberostar Lindo, was one of our favorite resorts.
We just back from Maya Beach and loved it. Stayed in the same premium building as well. I agree with everything you said. Is there a certain resort you would recommend in Rivera Maya based on your overall past experience? I also agree on the food...good not great. Would definitely go again. Staff are amazing.
Hello! Wondering if you would recommend this resort or Iberostar Paraiso Linda that you also had a review on? We are planning a trip next spring fir my sons senior year spring break. We will have an 18yo, 13yo, and my cousins family with kids the same age. Looking forward a lot of adult fun and lots of activities for the kids. Also I’m not sure why but all the videos I’ve seen I’m more drawn to the feel and environment of the iberostar as it feels more like the jungle, maybe also a bit more quaint? Maybe it’s just the point of view I’m seeing?
All wonderful places but for my money, I'd return to Iberostar. I feel they have the best food, the nicest campus layout, biggest pools, a wave pool!, and a really nice beach. Again, the places you mentioned are all great but for the money you can't beat Iberostar.
I loved this! Yesterday i was at Barcelo too and i was at Barcelo Maya Grand Resort tropical it was great there were alot of people everywhere in my resort. I loved my trip what about you?
I went to the Lindo and LOVED it. Besides the food, any other downsides to Barcelo? I was thinking of going for the snorkeling since you can't really snorkel at the Lindo.
Lindo is still my favorite but Barcelo is a close 2nd. I think, especially for snorkeling, Barcelo is the place to go to. One of the nicest beaches I've ever spent time on!
Great review !1 I stayed here back in 2006 cant remember everything . The last 3 times we stayed at the Iberostar. One question for you if I may? I know the water is crystal clear but how was the coral? We stayed at a resort that was great but once in the water we had to wear swim shoes because the coral was everywhere. Thanks Doug
Watched this review and the iberostar resort review...seriously best walk-through reviews out there. Family of 4; 2 adults, 2 kids ages 9 and 12. Which would you choose between the Barcelo and Iberostar complexes? I love the snorkeling off the beach opportunities at Barcelo but not some of the weirdness of wifi, only certain number of a la carte restuarants, towel cards. Iberostar looks more dated to me but seems to still have everything you would want. Beach looks less nice. Any further thoughts you could share?
We recently went back to Iberostar about a year ago and they updated it quite a bit. It's been 5 years since I've visted Barcelo Maya. I'm planning on returning though as I'd love to see the updates. If you haven't seen my recent Iberostar video, check it out. You might find it helpful. ruclips.net/video/VnMrd98k4c0/видео.html
Well last year I went to that resort and all I can say is that it’s the best one!! And personally the food is really good, I’m mexican and I can say that I enjoyed it very much. Also there was a lot of people when i went, on May But really, I loved it that much, that I’m going next week again!!
This is an awesome, helpful, practical review. Thanks for posting it. I'll be heading to this resort from North Jersey next week. What's the drinking water situation like? You rave about the bar drinks, so I assume ice cubes are OK? What about eating the fruit and vegetables that are washed by the local water? I hate to worry about something like this, but I really would hate for any of us to get sick on our vacation. Thanks!
I had a blast, food was good, I guess it depends on when you come here (Feb 14-19), people where nice, many places to eat, many stores to buy souvenirs
Great review! Thanks for sharing. We are going to Barceló this year. We do a lot of inline skating instead of cycling (10-15 miles). I saw the 5 resorts map and the complex is huge. Do you think this is a place where we can inline skate safely? Or should we leave our skates at home and just settle for walking/running thru the whole complex ?
Great video, really helpful information. What will be the best resort/ resorts in RM, which you visited? Meaning beautiful landscape, good entertainment & great food.
We have booked a vacation at the Barcelo Maya Beach for Jan 2018. You mentioned the food was not great but good. Can you advise which restaurants you felt would better than others. Thanks
Sorry for the late reply. To be honest, everything just tasted the same. Whether it was at a restaurant or the buffet, it all just tasted like buffet food. Again though, it's good. Not BAD, hardly terrible. It's just good.
@@michellesheppard6427 So come to think of it, you're right. The last 2 resorts were stayed at had similar curfews. That's when we'd get back to the room, wash up and get ready for dinner. As we would walk to dinner, the resort crews would be out cleaning the pools and prepping them for the next day.
Forgot to ask about the accessibility around the resort. Are there a lot of areas that only one class of guest is allowed to visit? This has happened to us in the past and would like to be prepared this time around.
Thanks for the video. We're trying to figure out where to go next and we're leaning towards here. Can you go into more detail of what you get with the premium? You said access to certain areas. What are they? Also, how bad/mediocre is the food? We heard the food was bland at Sandals but we enjoyed it both times. The "tickets" for the a la carte restaurants concerns us. I don't think you mentioned that. Did you get to eat anywhere with premium? If not, how are the buffets? Thanks much! :)
i agree with you 98%of what you say is a very good place no complaints being there tree tines i always stay at The Palace which give me access to all the restaurant on the comp'ex i think is over 10 specialty restaurant with no limit very goood experience every time
Great review! Thank you we are looking to book last minute in few weeks. Your review made our decision very easy. If you have any tips i would love to hear back from you. Thank you and take care.
Did your kids use the kids club? I’m curious what that was like. We are going in a few months and mine are also 7 and 8. Also, is premium really worth the extra? I like to save where I can but if it’s totally necessary then I’ll splurge.
Hi and thanks for the question. We did not but to be completely honest, the kids were never ever bored or restless. So it wasn't something we looked into. We had plans on using it but in the end, the entertainment provided kept our children occupied all day. Enjoy your trip!!!
Great review, my girlfriend son and I stayed there in December at the Palace loved it, perfect for family safe and private just wish they would of had Bud lite l.o.l. great prices if you shop your stay, n your right about the pants for dinner would of like to have worn shorts
I wouldn't say it's concerning. But where there's food, there will be birds! They have no interest in interacting with people. They just want the leftovers that everyone leaves on their tables. They don't attack or hurt anyone. Hope this helps!
Hey what's up man, I'm 21 yrs old and booked to come here August 19th this summer I was wondering what type of night life did you see the younger people engage in off the resort and was there any offers for clubs or bars in the city
I can't answer that one, sorry. At the time I shot this my girls were pretty young which meant the wife and I weren't hitting any bars those days. If anyone else can chime in, I'd be interested in knowing myself...
Thanks for sharing your video. If you are booked in the Beach, are you allowed to visit/eat at the other complex at the Barcelo Resort? Caribe, Palace Deluxe etc?
Beach, Caribe, Tropical, Colonial = all similar amenities and "stay at 1, access to all 4 (but NOT to the Palace). Stay at the Palace = "stay at 1, access to all".
I went there once, and i stayed in palace. You have access to all the hotels. And you have free access to some parts of the Resort. Restaurants, Parks and if i can recommend you something, go to swim with dolphins. Everything is really cool up there. Buffets are really delicious :p
Great review, Thank you. I am trying to choose between this and Iberostar .... I love to go snorkeling off shore and be able to see a lot of fish without a lot of rough water. Cancun seems rougher.. it seems that this one is better than that one. DO you have recommendations?
Which one did you end up going to? I too want to pick a resort based on the snorkeling, but then I hear the food here isn’t all that great. Isn’t the Iberostar way more expensive?
Thank you! Not sure about the Mayan Ruins. Don't want to misinform but I believe they are quite close. As for entertainment - your standard shows each night if I remember correctly. And when it rains they put huge tents up, cook food and play movies for the kids. You'll never be bored!
Hmmm....I watched all your vids about the Barcelo resort. Have you ever stayed at The Riu Tropical Bay Resort in Negril Jamaica? The resort sits right in the middle on Bloody Bay. Totally mind blowing beach! I go faithfully every February. But I decided the world is huge..time to seek something new I never been to Mexico so am going to give it a try. I am a beach person (don't do pools) so were there days when the water was ruff..big knock you down waves? Was there a strong current? I seen lots of big black places in the water was that rocks or seaweed beds? Out of all of the Barcelo resorts on that coves in you opinion which one had the best beach no seaweed no rocks. Nice clam water so you could walk out and float on a water lounger. Being this resort is not to far from Akumal did you swim with or see any Sea turtles. What month did you go? Does the resort offer free wi-fi? Ok.. Thank you for taking time time to answer my inquiries. I'm torn between Negril and Mexico.
To answer your first question, unfortunately no, I've never been to Jamaica. It's on my list though! :-) The finest beaches I've ever experienced were in The Dominican Republic. The water was crystal clear, calm, and warm! The ultimate trifecta in beach qualities. Of all of the beaches I've enjoyed in Mexico, the beach at the Barcelo was the finest. It was a real pleasure to lay on the soft sand or take the kids into the warm water. There were waves but nothing I'd call violent or rough. They were fun! We never left the resort but there's a great dolphin exhibit right on the campus. You can swim with the dolphins, feed them, or just enjoy a dolphin show that they put on each day. We went in August. Believe it or not, it was hotter here in NYc than it was in Mexico! The resort has free wifi but unfortunately only one person at a time can use it in your room. I find that to be ridiculous. My wife and I are both TMobile users and they offer data and voice down there with no extra fees or roaming charges so we just used that service instead of the wifi. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to ask! Enjoy,
You should honestly get a voucher for stay at the resort for this review. I am convinced to book my stay now. Thank you
Thank you!

JaysDMC i miss the resort already. By the way. Nice video.
@@gailmk1064 Thank you!
I'm on my way here next week. Thanks for the review!
yo that will be awesome. Have a awesome time. I'm going next month 😁
great review and great attitude! also don't like nitpickers. I'll be going in Dec :)
We are considering this resort for a singles retreat in January and would love your feedback upon return!
Nice, went way back in 2003 and going tomorrow. Great review, thanks!
Thank you for your review! Great info! I like party atmosphere, something like South Beach. Is this available there?
Thx for the tip...! Thinking about a week there...!
great video. thanks for the review! :)
That's great!
Staff are amazing.
hi great review there is more than one resort in that compound? which is better and does it matter. thanks keep it up
May I ask what resort you have been to where the food was the best?
Again, the places you mentioned are all great but for the money you can't beat Iberostar.
love your videos very helpful, what resort have you been to has lobster, oyster, shellfish?
@@JaysDMC wow thanks for the reply. Love the videos. Hope we can all go travel soon!
Thanks Doug
Love your videos. Looking to take my wife & 5 & 7 yr old kids, down south next winter. Of all your trips, what are your top 3 resorts you'd recommend?
Iberostar in Riviera Maya first! Then Barcelo Maya, and for DR I'd recommend Dreams La Romana. Amazing place!
I enjoy your video hope you visit Veracruz soon
Very cool video
I'm curious about the food. Is it bland? Cold? Poorly presented? Not fresh? Lacking variety? How would you describe it besides good.
Well last year I went to that resort and all I can say is that it’s the best one!! And personally the food is really good, I’m mexican and I can say that I enjoyed it very much.
Also there was a lot of people when i went, on May
But really, I loved it that much, that I’m going next week again!!
Thanks!
Great video! Thanks for honest comments.
I had a blast, food was good, I guess it depends on when you come here (Feb 14-19), people where nice, many places to eat, many stores to buy souvenirs
Great video! You seem like a cool dude
Meaning beautiful landscape, good entertainment & great food.
great honest review. Visiting here from UK later this summer, is it best to take USD or pesos?
Jason Puddephatt we always took dollars. Dollars go far here!
Thank you for the great review
We have booked a vacation at the Barcelo Maya Beach for Jan 2018. You mentioned the food was not great but good. Can you advise which restaurants you felt would better than others. Thanks
Sorry for the late reply. To be honest, everything just tasted the same. Whether it was at a restaurant or the buffet, it all just tasted like buffet food. Again though, it's good. Not BAD, hardly terrible. It's just good.
Going there in 2 days. Thank u for getting me more excited 😂
Awesome! Have a great time!!!
Thanks for a Good Review!
I stayed here 3 times, last time was Jan 2020, pools always closed at 6, must of changed since you were there 4 years ago,it is a beautiful resort.
WOW closed at 6??? That's pretty early.
@@JaysDMC yes it was, latest was 7 if there was a crowd.
A quick question - what camera stick are you using? There was very little movement. Are you using a GoPro?
Jim Burchell hi and thank you. I was holding the camera in my hand (no selfie stick) and I recorded this with my Canon G7X
Night swimming is also good if you have had too much sun and. Yes i also don’t like pools that close at 6 like the Bavaro
Some of my favorite memories were night swimming with my kids. Not a cloud in the sky. Seeing a billion stars and we floated on our backs. SO AMAZING!
Good review and a very good exercise too
Thank you very much!
Great review! Thank you we are looking to book last minute in few weeks. Your review made our decision very easy. If you have any tips i would love to hear back from you. Thank you and take care.
Great review!
Thanks for your review
How many different types of Crows would you say there were and were there an over abundance of them that would be concerning?
I wouldn't say it's concerning. But where there's food, there will be birds! They have no interest in interacting with people. They just want the leftovers that everyone leaves on their tables. They don't attack or hurt anyone. Hope this helps!
JaysDMC This helps tremendously thank you very much for the helpful insight!
Hey what's up man, I'm 21 yrs old and booked to come here August 19th this summer I was wondering what type of night life did you see the younger people engage in off the resort and was there any offers for clubs or bars in the city
I was just there in January, and there were so many people at the resort.
Visiting this resort end of September.I'd like to know if Strikers Sports Bar is or is not part of the All Inclusive deal.
I can't answer that one, sorry. At the time I shot this my girls were pretty young which meant the wife and I weren't hitting any bars those days. If anyone else can chime in, I'd be interested in knowing myself...
Are any of the pools heated? Went to Dreams Playa Mejures last January and was glad their pools were heated.
It’s funny you say the colonial and tropical side was a wild party side for me it was the other side
Buffets are really delicious :p
no you need to stay in the palace
I come tomorrow!! So exited
Hi....how is the beach? is it clean, no rocks? i mean the beach that s in front of the resort. thanks!
vintage girl yes, this is the actual beach on the resort.
Thank you for the review. How about entertainment? How far the Mayan ruins?
The finest beaches I've ever experienced were in The Dominican Republic.
Enjoy,
Is this "Barcelo Maya Beach & Caribe" or "Barcelo Maya Colonial & Tropical"?
Maya beach but they are all connected..
