Haven't watched the entire video yet, but on the topic of why esports are so volatile - regular physical sports can be blown up and built an ecosystem/for profit business around because no one owns the IP of basketball, or football, etc. Esports on the other hand are very problematic because somebody else owns the IP you are trying to capitalize on. For a game to become a staple and commercialized esport it needs true support from the originator of the IP, because other people don't want to touch it really due to the legal ownership of the IP. Either that or the game needs to be public domain. Blizzard has mishandled StarCraft esports because they weren't getting the cut of the pie they thought they should have, because they made the game and felt entitled. Why cant we have nice things? Corporate greed, somebody somewhere isn't making enough money from it. Sigh...
I worked at a LAN cafe around 2006 and Blizzard was just as greedy back then. The owner wanted to host some WC3 tournaments and asked Blizzard for permission. Blizzard told us that we would have to pay royalties and liscensing fees to even have BNET games installed on our computers, and then another fee to host the tournament. We said screw Blizzard after that and kept their games on our PCs anyway. It wasn't even a big place either, there would been like 14 entrants at best and we only asked because we thought it would have been cool if our favorite game company gave us their approval to play our favorite game
