Be a beta bitch who doesn't achieve goals? Nah, no thanks, I'm more of a high-risk, high-reward kind of guy. You would be writing the opposite comment if he didn't listen and made it over the channel.
@@DeuPKay A 10 mph head wind right off shore in something that barely goes 10mph is just obviously not gonna work and the person who built it didn't want to watch it get damaged for no reason you on the other hand would destroy an amazing build in an attempt to stroke your own ego. You clearly have no understanding of aeronautics engineering or anything else that applies in the real world and think he would have pedalled an airship 150 miles at a few miles an hour in reality he would have got 20 miles out and started flying backwards as the winds picked up.
This is a gearing problem in the design of the airship propulsion system. Once the operator has achieved maximum thrust per pedal rotation, he needs the ability to shift into a higher gear, kind of like overdrive in an automobile. Inertia will allow him to maintain higher propeller speed. A standard Schwinn ten speed has the type of mechanical engineering needed. This poor guy is only using gears one through three. That's too much work for the results he is getting.
You two will get another chance ! I hope you do end up making it when Mother Nature - plays ball. Man what a record that will be - ! Human powered airship crossing ! Bang on fellas bang on.
Right decision in the end, if you know bad weather is ahead in the channel you really don't want to be out there when it hits. Good effort, shows it can be done with the right conditions so its a case of live to fight another day.
Guy you are right, but aeronautics and everyday life are very different. It’s one thing to crash a bike into a wall at 180mph, but quite another to ditch an aircraft into a 5ft swell in the middle of one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world
Wrap your head around this.. Cr125 33hp 14k rpm range as input....44t - 11t stacked x3 fed into 20 in 1 advantage....minimum range losses with huge torque.. legs could probably power a car 🤨
let me get this straight, you think riding a 200kg bike and rider to 300km/h 5cm from telephone poles and rock walls on public slippery roads is safer than floating in a air balloon at 10km/h 5meter from the water while being escorted by 3boats.
Francois Dupont not at all, but there is a danger of a different kind and I wasn’t talking about this flight as such but just the mindset of aeronautics that it is better to anticipate and avoid a threat, than deal with an accident
Oh, that was a nice bit of info there...if I ever cross the channel on my homemade airbike contraption, supertankers have to avoid ME instead of me getting out of the way! :-D But I'd better be safe than sorry with that. ;-)
I could be wrong but iv heard aircraft under a certain weight can class as an 'ultralite', same category as para-motors(?) and don't require a pilots license to operate, like Peter Sripol's homemade plane
This guy is so natural on the screen, so full of desire to do this incredible thing, to meet guys as "crazy and passionate" as him ... his video is refreshing, full of candor and will at once . After a bad day's work, You're ventilate my cortex, Guy. Merci. 🍵-Frogeater-🐸
The pedaling system would have been much more efficient if it had been recumbent. All of the human powered vehicle records are held by people using regiments.
Maybe for some bottom heavy guy. This pilot has trained in the upright position and his muscles are more suited for this configuration. Proper seat, pedal and handlebar adjustments are critical.
u should have use electric motors for propellers and pedal at the same time i mean Hybrid mechanism..And also use of Rudder system with a Lever...u may have successful if u have done this...!
I think he needs more pitch in the props or something cuz it just seems like his pedaling doesn't really do anything. And maybe some adjustable gearing to build up. Idk just spitballing anyone agree though? Or think it would help?
Essentially, calculating the necessary gearing is reasonably straightforward. For any given prop you can find its power/rpm curve. You can use an exercise bike to find out what power Guy can put out at different rpm, then equate the two and get your gear ratios. It’s not rocket science.
I have to say this, not only about this clip Guy u make my fucking day great again and again!!! Not only u'r practice also u'r personallity!!! A swiss fan!U'r fucking great!
Being stupid has consequences. He would never ever be invited back to attempt anything with anyone else's toys for one. You don't want to be the one with a reputation for breaking laws and being reckless.
wow, with all the nanny state crap it is amazing people can still achieve new feats.. imagine if we were constrained by that 110 years ago.. we'd have no flight.
Tiired legs of a English man peddling to France in a bike air ship machine tied to a french man's boat.Godsakke the frog was worried about abit of wind did no one tell the 🐸 it's always windy and wet in UK.

Keep at it Guy.
Your determination allow will get you across.
Take this as a trial run.
I wait for your Proper crossing.

That thing could've got me into cycling

Wish we could get full episodes in the states.
Guy is a inspiration to man kind ! Guy deserves MBE....knight hood even!
I'd have thought a recumbent style of bike position would have been the most advantageous.
the thing goes to slowly for any aerodynamic advandage to count. I would have thought that you'd need the power in your legs to fight any wind.
Maybe for some bottom heavy guy. This pilot has trained in the upright position and his muscles are more suited for this configuration. Proper seat, pedal and handlebar adjustments are critical.
ahh yes..that dreaded "numbollockosis", gets me every time..
a malfunctioning undercarriage, we've all been there
Mark Somerville ... Apparently that asshole Lance Armstrong suffered 50% less of this condition ;-)
Ya gotta luv that Guy!! 😉😊
There is no way you can move a balloon across the channel against any kind of gently breeze if you can only go about 5 to 7 knots.
the power is in his locks.
The tether invalidates the effort in my mind :-( Saw it being used as a guide too many times.
Absolutely.Between the frenchman and the tv company they made a record attempt into daytime tv meets Big Brother shopping channel!
Absolutely.
Mark Jennings ... Your attitude invalidates your comment in my mind. Come back when you have attempted an equal challenge ... until then stfu!!
Did they ever try this again?
I think Guy would have done that with a paper map and no support boat!
Probably a good thing someone was there to question his boundless enthusiasm. 😉
Probably
Opin-Eon Just need gps and follow the line Guy would have got to France
Even the powers that be in the universe want Guy to go fast. Even when he's piloting a balloon lol.
It's a screem, still a happy one.😂🤣
That looks fun.
My area goes numb around 30 miles into the saddle
Please can you just upload in some sort of order, my OCD can't handle much more of this 😢
did he ever make it?
Why wouldn't you have used a recumbent bike for your seat?
Imagine the chain fell of😂
as someone who cycled on a turbo not moving it really does make ur ass hurt
u should have use electric motors for propellers and pedal at the same time i mean Hybrid mechanism..And also use of Rudder system with a Lever...u may have successful if u have done this...!
awesome
When's the next attempt guy?
Just seen him do 270mph on his Suzuki at Elvington.
Cant imagine that this has been done by Alberto Santos-Dumont 125 years ago.

English guy crosses the channel with a Zepelin with pedals . French guy crosses the same channel with Jet powered fly board :)))
We need a Bloke like Guy to run the country, the last hand full have been a waste of skins !
Not sure why the airship was heavy from the start...
Does he know how much risk Guy has taken on bikes ect..
Proper job
MY FOOOOTT WASSS A BALLLLOOOOOUUUN
the problem with the seat should have been resolved before they launched the airship. hitting the water isn't how you cross the English channel.
Being tethered to a support boat makes it invalid really. Actually fly free and without the boat underneath you mothering you.
Was anyone else helping him peddle when he was trying to get up speed?
i love blimps
When we going to see your tractor pull?
"Got my feet wet" Yes you did. First try done, onward.
The frog didnt want it.
Has Guy been successful in any of these land/air speed human powered attempts?
Comment section full of arm chair engineers wow!
Sorry, but this was no Gossamer Albatross....
All respect to guy, but is the cheesy helmet necessary?
Me bollocks are numb, I think we've all been there at one time or another
Not a good idea to release a latex balloon.
I think they should be forbidden. Hopefully, the government will one day take action.
your pilot positioning is all wrong, you should have a recumbent design for the cockpit,
I assure you from first hand experience.
Another try ?

Ciao !
Blown back to Britain.
Guy please come help me build my mustang...you can make a video and race it on kayalami race track in South africa...
Stop fannying around you froggy jobsworth and let him get on with it,
I liked the french guy the of Guys team would have him cycling on sand at 100mph+ if it made good tv.
Guy what happens when you gear stack up the range loss on a huge mechanical advantage? 😈
Europeans in charge - for a short while - Get back on 1st Nov !!
might be better to climb higher no?
add 2 more props
He was fine. He could of made it. THOSE DAMN FRENCH!!!..and I am half french..well CAJUN...
What's the use of that stupid helmet?
Maybe set up the seat properly before setting off? What a bunch of amateurs.
