12th Fail: Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankar reveal if they ever wanted to give up after failing

- Vikrant Massey is all set to return to the silver screen with his much awaited film 12th Fail. The film follows the real life success story of IPS Officer Manoj Kumar Sharma. While Vikrant will be seen in the lead, actress Medha Shankar will be playing his girlfriend IRS Officer Shraddha Joshi’s role. Well, in an exclusive interview with Desimartini’s Mahima Pandey, the actors opened up about their film and the passionate prep that went behind playing these characters. Vikrant also shared an update about his much anticipated romantic thriller Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba, co-starring Taapsee Pannu.

I would say the most coveted exam called the civil services of the upsc has always been a tough one but i strongly feel it's much tougher at present than it was when i qualified in the central services group A in 1982 in my first attempt ( never tried again). It's a gruellingly lengthy and at times frustating process and one has to "restart" many times. Out of thousands who like Manoj never gave up, only a miniscule number succeed. So you see, a plan B is extremely essential when one is trying for such tough exams. As compared to our times some forty years ago, these days a large number of fields are available where you can excel. So don't make civil services the end of this world. I know so many of them who have made great careers outside the govt bureaucracy.
Coming to the film- what can i add? People have said it all. A very authentic presentation. A real life story of an IPS officer who went through all the travails. All characters were believable. Gauribhayya was so inspiring. Best part was actors were not very known faces. It was very relatable. Vikrant was too good. Medha Shankar is so likeable.
The sad part is students from humble backgrounds have to spend so much money on coaching. A big industry is now in place and contributing to this country's economy ( very sad indeed). I was reminded of the very poignant "Kota factory" where scenario is the same- rat race for IITs( as if non iitians are no good). These unrealistic expectations really take a big toll on students and stifle their flair for other avenues. My own daughter did try for the civil services but couldn't make it. She is now happily working in a field she loves. ( she is a project editor with a leading publishing company based out of the UK). Good luck.
