I love wrasses... they're beautiful! I've only ever had a yellow coriss wrasse though. My elongate Dottyback does the same when I add new CUC members but leaves them alone for the most part after a while. She can be quite vicious toward inverts so I gotta keep an eye on her too. 👀💙🐠

have you thought about trying breed wrasses? Would be so awesome. My dream has always been a wrasse tank, they are by far my favourite fish and its really a shame that even today most of the fish are still taken from the ocean. I guess with a little bit of effort and reading marine biology papers, many species could be captive bred nowadays. Unfortunately I haven't had a marine aquarium in many years.

Great video. I have 12 or more wrasses in my tank. My Divided female hates my new Green Supermale Leopard and just started tolerating my Timor. Seems after time they co habitate. I just added an Oriental Maori and Hardwicki. Those two have adjusted well so far. I have several fairies and flashers as well.

Very nice. The tank is really coming along. The only erase I kept in a reef was a six line. I named him Omar like the character in the wire. At first he was very timid as I added him to a tank with only a few fish and a established pecking order but in about a year he earned his name. He was able to eat anything he wanted swim in whoever's territory. When they seen him coming no one made any aggressive moves. No one crossed Omar. Unfortunately though Omar committed suicide and jumped out of the tank.

had a green dragon wrasse once, ate anything that looked like a shrimp or a crab. all the dead hermit shells were turned over every day and checked, just in case he missed one. he was very ocd about the hermit shells. left snails alone though. would stare down the purple lobster every day but would never do anything. i think he was just waiting to get bigger before that fight.

I’m surprised you don’t have any leopard wrasse....they are absolute model citizens in my tank...The blue star leopard is my favorite and the Potters is a beauty.....Also my Mystery wrasse is absolutely beautiful and he’s a model citizen as well....he same family as the newest addition you have...that pink wrasse...same personality...I call him the creep of my tank...he’s always on creep mode...so slick he always finds a way to creep his way into a situation

  • @Desmo1

I agree with the size thing when it comes to shrimp, get the largest shrimp you can if you want to greatly decrease your odds of your wrasse eating them. I have a large melanarus I keep because it does a great job at eating pests, he will eat smaller shrimp but any large size shrimp he pays no attention to and honestly he's somewhat skittish of them. My coolest wrasse I've ever owned and also the most dangerous was the mystery wrasse, thing was like a straight alligator in my tank but looked awesome! He didn't give AF what size any invert was so sadly I had to eventually trade him in.

I love all those beautiful wrasses!!! I haveva six line wrasse and was told I may never be able to add another wrasse in my tank because the six line is just so mean. It is my favorite fish in my tank though. I could never get rid if him. Plus he is my flatworm preventative fish.... hopefully I never get them but just hard to control. Love your vids bud!!

Had horrible experience with two 6 line wrasses (not at same time). Never get one!!! Second worst experience was with scarlet pin stripe wrasse. I got him about 2 1/2 in when he grew to 3+ in it got extremely aggressive. Would fight with my big cleaner shrimp and Bengali cardinal. And was getting more aggressive to rest of tank mates. Had to get give him back to my LFS and purchased mystery wrasse which was a pretty penny.

My current setup has the following wrasses:
    -Green Wrasse
    -Yellow Wrasse
-Ruby Head Fairy Wrasse (Male close to max size)
    -Hooded flame Fairy Wrasse (Juvenile/Female)
    -Six Line Wrasse
    -Multi-color Lubbock's Wrasse (Tri-color Wrasse)
Only issues was the green wrasse chasing the yellow wrasse for about a week and now they are best buds who search rocks together. The Six line hates the Multi-color Lubbock's but doesn't usually try anything after getting hit by the Lubbock's one time. I've used to own a McCosker's Flasher, Linespot Flasher, Nebulous Wrasse and a Vrolick's Wrasse before a tank crash, and all were outstanding reef safe fish except the linespot hated my old yellow tang.

The forums talk about the blue head wrasse. Most agree to avoid for mixed tanks. Also my yellow Coris wrasse is also a model citizen. He went from a small 2 inch guy a year ago to a 4 inch super I'd say. His face is very pronounced. Pictures would never do him Justice.

  • @WRASSEREEFCHANNEL
    @WRASSEREEFCHANNEL 3 года назад +1

Nice tank! Yeah I totally agree with your statement! I love Wrasses though, and at one time or another I have kept each species you have. My favorite being the blue headed wrasse. However he killed my China Wrasse, and then went after my leopards. I traded him in to my LFS. My male melenarous went after my new Kuiters Leopard Wrasse. So I traded him in a few weeks ago. Mixing wrasses is never an exact science.
I see you have a powder blue tang! How is he? I have a purple tang, and a Passer Angel. Do you think they will all get along? I would love a powder blue tang!

    Hi CJ.
I have a small tri color fairy wrasse and it is a model citizen - never bothers anybody and looks great. I also have a Christmas Wrasse (looks similar to a Melenarus) and he terrorizes my cleanup crew. I can't keep snails for long, and I'm pretty sure he took out my porcelain crab while I was on vacation. He doesn't bother the other wrasse though and he's constantly on the hunt (and has wiped out) pests, so I'm hesitant to get rid of him. He's by far the biggest fish in my tank (5 inches) and keeps the sand bed turned at least. Maybe if I downsized I'd have better luck with keeping snails? 🐌
    Anyway, great video as always.

He gets along well so far with my clowns, but they are in QT too LOL. Im looking forward to seeing how it gets along with the firefish, clown goby, and the lawnmower blenny. Not sure If I will add more than one wrasse to this tank.

But I'll need to looks and see reef fry videos. All I've seen were clown fish fries. Basically good video. I wonder if I should try my twenty gallon tall, as a one fish reef. After I finish organising and things. And a big reef looks to draw good opinions.

Worst Wrasse experience? Well, of my smaller species, my 6 line went ape over Fairy I tried to introduce on two occasions. Tormented them into hiding and eventual starvation. Couldnt get them out w/o dismantling the tank! I have a Dragon/Rock Mover about 4.5" long and he Also destroyed a Coris I tried to introduce. Now I have a 5" Lunare male, and he doesnt mess with the BIG boy lol. The Purple tang-6" and the Lunare go chasing same as with your PB Tang. All in all, the Wrasse species are beautiful, are very entertaining, but Im constantly on edge when they get punky lol. The 6 line is the only Wrasse in my 50gal column. The tangs, Triggers and BIG Wrasses are in the 120 fowlr tank.

Usually as long as u add the cleaner shrimps b4 u add any wrasse that preys on shrimp they should leave them alone. But if u try to add any new shrimp in the system after the fish is already in there and maturing in the tank they will kill every new shrimp added. This happened with my Mystery Wrasse I couldn't figure out why he would kill every cleaner shrimp I put in even tho I had sum in there already. Well that was the reason it was bcus those shrimp were in the tank b4 he was.. Check out the mystery wrasse there very beautiful fish maybe u can add 1 to the reef..

Hey CJ, you said it pretty much dude.. The bigger they get and the fatter they get (basically as they grow physically and in comfort), they change.. And I've had and love wrasse.. I've had and love the coris, the melanarus(two of them), and a few others that you have. And dude, they are going to eat the inverts.. You can keep them full, and fat, and they will do it for sport.. They are kind of like triggers, in which they can and do flip the switch overnight.. So just be very ready.. And a wrasse fight, if they really want to fight is a very messy and nasty fight to the death... Even after they are dead. I have never seen anything like it.. So just be warned. And some of those Tangs (the Tomi especially) can be nasty too. Just be on the lookout.. And my most dangerous by far was the lunar, but I had a tusk that was pretty rough also at times.. But the lunar actually made me dislike wrasse for years...

Do i remove them so i can put back my cleaner shrimp or not? I love the behavior of the cleaner shrimps but I also love the job the wrasse was doing? Not sure how this will go. Love your tank and videos! I'm shocked you don't catch the blue head and get him out of there...as they don't do anything for pest control. I agree with all your other wrasse choices, as I have a big ol' yellow corris wrasse in my tank (5-6"), he and my big leopard wrasse do an awesome job as pest hunting in my tank. My yellow corris wrasse and be kind of a bully some times, but never hurt any of my other wrasses. Check my videos for some old videos, I too am a wrasse junky. Hey, i habe a question.
Is it ok to keep two trigger fish? I have one at the moment. I don't recall the type but it's one of the reef safe triggers and i really want to add the blue jaw... just not sure if that's a good idea lol
