You did an amazing job Karen with the pencils and your flower chic is so awesome. I love coloured pencils and the great details you can create with them but you do have to have plenty of patience and time. Well done X
I don’t like colored pencils for the same reason, lol. You’re not alone! I do admire people who have the patience to make amazing art with them, though.
It's SUCH A BEAUTIFUL! soft! Glowy! Look! But the patience required is the patience of a saint! I'm not that but I do love colored pencils. I guess I probably just won't ever do them as a main medium or right.
You crack me up. Colored pencils are not my friend because of the layers and I type all week at work so my hands already hurt😂😂. I love that you show us so many ways to create. I loved your comment “but I’m not” I say that ALL the time😂😂 Thank you💕💕💕
I have fallen down the RUclips rabbit hole today while looking for reviews on skin tone markers, and discovered your Channel !! Am so pleased to have found you and have ordered your new book from Amazon , “Skin tone Secrets “. I just started colouring earlier this year and have bought various sets of pencils and Arrtx and Altenew alcohol markers which I really love. Still undecided as to what skin tone markers to buy. Am enjoying learning and practicing with the markers before adding coloured pencils ….they definitely make much lighter work of everything. Using the markers as base layers helps the pencils lay down better especially when colouring straight onto the pages of some of the books from a certain giant company where the paper is of very poor quality. Am very much looking forward to receiving your new book….it has had many rave reviews !! All the best to you, Karen !
Karen thanks so much for sharing. Is it possible to see the interview you had with Sharon Holmberg and her techniques and etc.? if it is still available to watch because I missed it and maybe others.
I’d love the hot dog pdfs please, I’m learning to draw with coloured pencils currently and it definitely is in how you hold the pencils. It shouldn’t hurt ,when it does you’re gripping the pencil too hard.
Lmao! You make me laugh! I am not laughing at your struggles, I promise! But I totally get it. I always get to impatient but I am on a quest to perfect colored pencils@ love you
Thanks for being so real! All of those things happen to me on a regular basis😜 I’m learning a lot watching your videos. Thanks for all the inspiring content
Karen, I'm not a big fan of colored pencils either because of the hand pain I end up with after trying to complete a drawing. Recently thought I watched a video by a channel called Color My World and her creation called Foundation Paste or Base Paste. The video where she shows how to make it is called Colored Pencil Foundation Paste DIY Tutorial. How to use Base Paste Colored Pencil Foundation. I think I may give it a try and thought you might be interested too.
Karen, you never disappoint! I love how honest you are, like the struggle with the pencils and things that take too long. I'm a member of the drawing club, but may I have the hotdog pdf, please? Thank you. Now, I'm going back to the fairies 😄
Hot tips (I think): 1. I have the whole Luminance set because I'm a clown. But I keep going back to Prismacolor because their softness makes applying layers a lot easier on my hands. 2. Doing watercolor, water-based markers, or even gouache layers underneath colored pencil really helps to build up color.
She is beautiful! You and Sharon are such amazing artist and what I love about your classes and YT channel is you can take tricks from all and make it totally your own! Girl, you crack me up!🤣Great hotdog method!
This is AWESOME! You are great at colored pencils so you must do more and your hand will most likely get used to it. The skin on that picture is just beautiful and I love the colors you used for the hair, that gold mixed in really did it for me. Can't wait to try this and maybe couple it with the fairy lessons. I too am leary of colored pencils but you've really got me over that right quick. Sharon Holmberg is a wonderful artist and I hope she publishes something like a calendar and actually you really should do a calander too, would love to have your art just hanging around.
This was a fun video to watch and I can't wait to incorporate this into my own work. I have a habit of drawing on the backs of junk mail envelopes and then cutting out the pictures to glue into my sketchbook, but I never do anything like this with them. Also... I just discovered your channel but I've already got a couple of your books.
Karen would I be able to get the free Hot Dog “How to do this”. Thankyou. I’ve got a few of your books now but I do think I would like to add the skin tones so this will be my next purchase. Xx
Thank you for this, Karen! I love Sharon’s work! You had me laughing out loud, with the green dot! Lol. Probably because my black pen exploded in the middle of my project , at 3 am this morning!!! Your girl looks amazing! I would love to have the hot dog pdf! ❤️
@@KarenCampbellArtist I've submitted my email for the Mixed media hotdog packet listed here and it's not sending me an email with a downloadable link. Has anyone else had an issue? I'd love to add the Hotdog method to my process. On another note thank you for the new skin tones book!
Karen, my bestie, you do everything at 80 MPH! No wonder you find pencils slow and boring. If you enjoyed sitting and coloring…That is why mixed media is fun for everyone-use the mediums that suit your pace. Pan Pastels are amazing! I’m just trying them. Lots of color quickly!
New to your channel. I've been binge watching and caught some videos where you stated not liking clear gesso. Not sure if your opinion has changed in videos I haven't watched yet. The clear gesso works amazing as a prep layer for colored pencil. Cuts the time to color way, way down.
Hej Karen! I'm a big fan of your artwork and your tutorials and lessons seriously KICK ASS, thank you so so so so sooo very much! Whenever i can compromise and follow through I buy and follow your lessons on Awesome Art School. Someday (when my current time-sucker job allows it), I will enroll and go for the bundle (seriously need your guidance when it comes to draw and love, love, love mixed media projects, men I'm still struggling with markers, my least fav media). Anyway, all of this to tell you that: to enjoy the process (and results) of using colour pencils in my own artwork and art journals I needed to give up on trying to achieving the best results with "just" layering. Nowadays my fav method-to-go is to blend them with Zest-it Blending Sponge, to get the flawless, soft results I want faster. Best Regards, Kátia
Hi, I have a question, you said Sharon doesn't cut out her girls. How does she do them on the watercolor background? I love her face style too. Thanks!
She just watercolors around them, yep! Making sure she's working on the right paper - I know she normally works on Mixed Media Paper so it can take a light wash and is good for colored pencil work too!
So excited to do this today - I love it - thank you Karen and Sharon:) - Karen - could you please share the pdf. Also I do not have the Caran colored pencils (on my wishlist) - any others you would rec?
LOL ... sorry, Karen, but I had to fast forward the colored pencil coloring section 😴 ... the end result was okay. Too much work, though, and I think a large glass of wine would have been greatly appreciated (I know it was where I was sitting). Tippy to the rescue! And all is well ... love you and your show for many reasons ❤️
You are so REAL! Love it 😊. Colored pencils are timely and hand cramping. But it does look seamless. You're boo boos are a highlight to us that admit we have many. And second thoughts.
Oh ! Karen ..It’s all in the way you hold the pencil. My Dad taught me to rest a pen or pencil with it between my first finger and thumb and resting on my third finger. It means you keep your fingers straight and have full control of your medium. My fingers are very bad with arthritis.I can still colour for hours using pencils as I add no pressure at all.You let the pencil do the work not the hand .you just keep going over the area to get the coverage you want.Your first one needs to be a good cover. The rest you build ,I add in other colours like reds and purples and pinks sometimes to get the shadows and emphasis on certain areas. I have just gone back into watercolour. But find it too flat so finish with pencils. They work beautifully over the top of watercolour. They seem to like that little bit of extra texture. But that’s why you had problems and it’s such a shame because pencils can really enhance your work sometimes. You know when you feel there’s something missing. And the eyes are beautiful done with them too. They look so pretty and have so much more depth ,as well as the shading under the eyelids too..They do wonderful dusky eyes and because it’s a dry medium it’s not going to get out of control..Sorry I know your an artist and I am a now and then one .But pencils are my thing and they do amazing things to your work without pain .If I can do it with bent painful hands you can do it too. It’s worth trying as they are well worth the effort. As well as very relaxing too..Love n Light 🥰
