Grumman G-21A Goose registration N600ZE flying at EAA Seaplane Base, Oshkosh, Wisconsin on 27 July 2016. Plenty of floatplane/seaplane activity on this nice warm summer morning. Martin Mars is moored here as well. Registered date of manufacture is 1943.

I flew the Goose (as a passenger) in the 1970's with Antilles Air Boats from San Juan (Puerto Rico) to St. Thomas (US Virgin Islands).

The Mallard and Goose are the best looking flying boats ever built for my taste.

I grew up in Alaska in the 70s ... fond memories of flying in a goose.😁

Correct registration is N600ZE and that is meant to look like N-GOOSE but N600SE was already taken by a Thorp T-18 homebuilt in AZ as I recall.

Thanks for pointing that out Dave. I have changed the text accordingly. Interesting information about the registration origin.

Not that it is a big deal one way or another, but there is evidence that the registration numbers (& letters) are affixed using vinyl stick-on characters such as you might buy from a home-improvement or office supply store for a sign or mailbox. If you look at a close-up shot, the "Z" is actually a "2" rotated 180 degrees (upside-down.)

I watched that plane land and take off by the water bomber it taxied past. Another guy I know had his Howard in sea plane base the same day

I travelled halfway around the world to be at Oshkosh and the seaplane base was a highlight for me.

The goose is the sexiest sea plane ever. At least in my mind. However they can only run the old radials. If you run turbo props. Just like a beaver. In my mind you have ruined the plane

Well, it sure did plenty of flying at Oshkosh. Seemed to be flying passengers almost non-stop that morning. Prospective buyers perhaps?

It had actually just changed hands to a new owner a few months before the Oshkosh airshow in July 2016.

quite a laborious takeoff...little disappointed in the performance

    • @davem5333

As for the laborious take-off performance, that can happen if the water is real smooth. The smooth surface tries to pull the hull into the water.

What is the point of the pilot taking off for max performance? Harder on engines, burns more fuel. The plane ain't yours.
