I was able to meet the late great Nichelle Nichols, in Bangor, Maine (my hometown,) in 1991. I was in a Trek fan club in Maine at the time; we had raised enough money for a TOS bridge replica, long before the TOS Set Tour in NY State. Meeting Miss Nichols was a rare and unique opportunity for me. I have LOVED TOS since 1978 when the reruns became popular. I was so psyched to see TMP in the cinema with my late parents. Before I fell in love with Trek, I fell in love with films and sci-fi. "Star Wars, A New Hope;" was my first film experience and my first love of sci-fi. If I hadn't seen TOS, if I hadn't seen Star Wars, if I hadn't seen "The X-Files," (which allowed me to connect with Gillian Anderson,) I would not be in the screenwriting career I am in now. I AM so grateful to Gene Roddenberry, George Lucas, and Chris Carter for influencing me.... Gillian, Nana, the late Carrie Fisher, and Miss Nichols are the women of sci-fi to establish themselves for the generations that are here now. To the cadets on the new "Starfleet Academy," please use your search engines, and look up these incredible women.... davisroadproductions dot net is my web site - Markus P.S. Both Nana and Gillian Anderson started on stage long before tv found them....
Fantastic interview. Nana is amazing, well versed, insightful, and inspiring. The interview is intelligent, poised, and gracious. Thank you so much for sharing this. I cannot wait to get my hands on this book.
I can think of no one better to be the writer and spokesperson of how women actors evolved over the years in Star Trek than Nana Visitor. She gets it about how the various different Star Trek permutations each managed to keep what was corps to the original concept. I so enjoyed her acting in DS9, and was many times moved emotionally by her brilliant acting. I must obtain a copy of her book. Congratulations to all the women actors who performed on Star Trek. We owe them all a debt for the humane way they represented their humanity and gender.
Excellent interview! Always love seeing Nana and hearing her talk about her incredible life and career, especially about Star Trek and her time as Kira on DS9. I've pre-ordered her new book and look forward to reading it.
I just heard the news. What we've left behind.. Vic was a great character and James Darren was a fantastic actor. He was in The Time Tunnel too. I've just started watching that.
Nice interview and very thoughtful questions. I hadn't really seen many interviews with Nana before, but this popped up in my feed, and I really feel like I got to know her a bit. Thank you.
I'm going to look into getting that book. Can you please ask Nana if next year she can come to Galaxy Con in Raleigh NC starting July 24th 2025 ? We would love to see her there ! We've had Terry Farrell and Armin Shimerman there already. There's a lot of DS( fans who would love to see her come.
She is in great shape, would love to see her in another TREK series! Her character in Deep,Space nine was a phenomenal character, and her dance experience kept her in tip top shape.
Of all the new folks, Sonequa Martin-Green reminds me of Nana Visitor the most, or at least the performance as Kira. I think I first noticed it in the episode "Su'Kal," when she had to play the hologram teacher to Su'Kal, she had the same smile and empathy that Kira had at her best. And both actors are probably the ones who imbue their performances with the most emotional vulnerability in Trek history. Brilliant performers and by all accounts, wonderful people.
I still remember her being interviewed by CNN the morning after 9/11 when she was one of the few people on the streets the next morning. I was thinking, I wonder if any other Star Trek fans saw that.
@@monkeyzorr3090 Let's get real, Gene's claims of equality-for-all stopped at "Only if she's willing to have sex with me for a job," and that attitude was all throughout TOS' writing.
"We've never heard any bad stories about people who inhabited [the captain's chair]" With one notable exception... 😁You can almost hear him catching himself but he was too far into the idea to say that last part, because it really is true outside of William Shatner. I'm a fan of his and really appreciate his writings and music in the last 20 years, and in a way that's wholly separate from my being a Trekkie, which probably makes it easier for me to say he stopped being a good ambassador for Star Trek a long time ago.
I hope she doesn't avoid how hateful Roddenberry was toward women. In listening this video, it looks like that dark aspect of his personality is not touched upon.
😎 Cool!I’m alway’s amazed to see a new Star ⭐️ Trek book!📕 I’m afraid,though,I’m an original Star Trek fan,here!I have a huge,original,Star Trek book,as well!Plus,some original James Blish book’s,which I like as well!😊
It’s hard to believe,that the original Star Trek is now,55 year’s old?That mean’s,we’ve come a long way since then!I mean,since the late ⏰ 1960”s!Another women that I know also like’s the original Star Trek!She was my mom’s friend in the dance 💃 world.🌍 😊😊😊😊😊
Wow, Nana is still stunningly beautiful
What an amazing project. Glad you were inspired to write this.

Nana is such a classy person, a role model for everyone

Thanks so much to Kyle and Nana! 🤩
Thanks for mentioning Prodigy.

I’m definitely buying this. 😍
God Bless James Darren on this day....His "Vic Fontaine" was a BRILLIANT character....
I just heard the news. What we've left behind.. Vic was a great character and James Darren was a fantastic actor. He was in The Time Tunnel too. I've just started watching that.
Let's not forget his Top 40 hit "Goodbye Cruel World. "

Those who worked on DS9 wrote women 100x better and more emotionally complex, than the Mary Sues of Nu Trek shows. It's a stark contrast.
Our community is a beautiful place because of all our female colleagues. ❤👍😁🌎🌍🌏🖖🏻
I can't wait to get this book.
She created the most fully-realized character in the franchise. My absolute favorite.
I still remember her being interviewed by CNN the morning after 9/11 when she was one of the few people on the streets the next morning. I was thinking, I wonder if any other Star Trek fans saw that.
I've missed your snappy attitude being out and about❤
Troi's not on the cover?
She is still very pretty.
Bring back Nana as Kira! :)
Still the sexiest woman in Starfleet history.
Watch the first 90 seconds of "Who Mourns For Adonais" then come back and tell me how empowering Trek was for women
Star Trek hater

This isn’t a book about him
Don’t have access to sound at the moment - would love to see the title of this book and or relevant links in the description!

There is nothing "good-natured" about Lower Depth's attempts at humour. It's demeaning and toxic
It’s called comedy.
What a load of horseshit
Go hug your body pillow.
