Great stuff Gemma and Simon, I can't wait for each Friday episode to arrive. I am captivated by your enthusiasm and can-do attitude, keep 'em coming !!!
Best unrestricted workwear is a kilt. You can use the sporran for a tool bag and if you for the matching socks you can get all sorts of knives for them too..
Simon, got a tip fer ya. Old carpenter here. Cutting a long angle on the chop saw. If it is beyond the capability of your miter such as your scarfs, clamp a square cut piece to the fence of the saw - say a full width of the slide - insert your work piece into the saw perpendicular to the fence. Set your blade angle to 10 degree or what ever gets you your scarf length of cut. Use your slider to control the cut. It takes a bit of adjustment and getting used to but it's a lot more accurate than the circular saw with the guard clamped open.
Amazing work, what a job, I wish my health was better, I wasn't in my 70's and lived on the same side of the pond then boy I could do something. Good job.
I've had the old version of that mitre saw for a few years. Works fine. Only criticism is it needs a lot of space behind it (but unless you spend a fortune, they all do) and the dust collection is not great even with a vacuum attached. For that sander, get yourself a sanding belt cleaning eraser. They are only a few quid but they will save you a fortune on belts and disks. Because it takes so much wood off the belts and disks clog up, run the eraser over the running belt and it's as good as new.
I've done quite a few abandoned house renovations for the City, and found the easiest way to draw out beams that needed replacement in awkward spots was to drive the claw end of a hammer into the beam and then smack the hammer head with a bigger hammer. The harder you hit it, the deeper it dug in... Of course, there was always the one that had to be chiseled out in bits...You guys seem to have a lot of those! A 'Spring Loaded' impact driver does a nice job of loosening stubborn bolts and screws, it can accept straight, phillips and sockets. I love how you're not only rebuilding Sarinda for yourselves, but for boat lovers of the future... 👍
Ever since the begining I have been trying to think of ways to reroute the exhaust system to come out of the "wings" above the wheelhouse, it would be really good to get it off the outer hull, certainly not original! Another week of fascinating work, I don't know where you get your fortitude and determination from!! Well done! Phil, East Yorkshire.
Fingers crossed and my toes for that next major project, loving the new gadgets too make life easier for you. Great job well done and hope fishing goes well too XX
That really needs a dry dock, with support braces on the outside, maybe you can get steel or wood long enough to sink deep enough in the mud, to hold as a outer support brace.. you basically have a new built, the time you are done. You all are always upbeat. What a huge undertaking. Many would have scrapped it. Definitely commend your efforts.
Be very carefull Simon. If she gets you reading the on-screen instructions it is a slippery slope and before you know it you will be reading instructions.
Snickers work trousers with stretch panels are the most comfortable I’ve found and been using them for a long time. Very well made and will last you years 👍
Very nice to see you working toward the stern! I am looking forward to seeing you “resolve” all the electrical wires. Seems like a lot of excess weight, possible rust/corrosion and excess resistance? Thx for bringing us along. 😊😊😊 John Ken
I truly loved watching you guys work on that boat I'm wondering how many thousands of thousands of pounds British money you're spending I pray you continue and finish the job that you've started it's going to be wonderful thank you for sharing
You have to remember at the time the cable was made it was supposed to have a life of 25 years. Most of us live in houses where that life time has almost doubled!
Love the saw and sander! I think you could use a benchtop wheel grinder for wire brushing off the rust on the knees, and touch up with hand paddle wheel. GripStrip makes rubber screw in anti-skid treads for the deck later you could remove with minor repair to holes if you move them. They also make peel and stick full stair tread (US here so guess-timating 10cm x 50 cm) or grip tape 5cm wide by 10m.
I use the snickers work trousers. The floor layer version have a high waistband at the back to cover the builders bum and built in pockets for knee pads. Make sure to get their pads too. Best thing though is the material. Strong where it needs to be and flexible in the right areas. Do cost a bit though, but I'm certain it's exactly what you're after.
Just like to say that both you guys do a very terrific job in all weathers on the boat and really enjoy watching all your videos massively!!👍👍💯💯😊😊👊👊😎😎😎👍
13:20 Guys, no masks with that moldy dust that thick with the light beaming through it, you should both have respirators with organics and dust cartridges, my god your both gonna have lung disorders before you finish : (
Only found your channel a couple of weeks ago, been binging on your past video's trying to catch up. Well done both of you. I'm trying not to watch this episode till I've caught up, almost had a sneak preview to see how far you've got on. At the moment I'm at episode 186.
For the deck slipperiness why not try those rubber mats they use for when you're standing at work. They tend to stay where they're put even if the floor is slippery without glues or fixings.
Simon asked Gemma , why did we changed this solid peace of wood? Gemma replied we might as well, Simon don't ask questions simply follow instructions 😅😅😅
Simon try carpenter jeans,I feel the same way about fit when working. You need room to move, when working, bending, squatting, ect. Not sure if you have these over in the uk.
The paint on the outside is the only thing holding that ply together at 17:24. Edited to add that I've used KiwiGrip with good results. It is water soluble and goes on really easy. Sands off easier than other non-slip, but doesn't need to be sanded in between coats/recoats (as long as it is clean). Its major drawback is that it has zero fuel resistance, but is fine if fuel gets on it and is able to flash off before you walk on it. It isn't cheap, but worth it in my opinion.
Remove straight slot screws. Whilst recessed, all you can do is use the torque drill as a screwdriver and a flat bit. The flat bit is guided onto the slot by its recessed screw hole. It all goes wrong the moment the screw head breaks the surface. It really needs a sprung loaded outer sleeve(tube), of internal diameter equal to/slightly larger than the screw head diameter. This will keep the flat bit from sliding sideways out of the screw head.
ref Trousers / Work Pants - for articulation and toughness, the Khul pants are epic, it's the heavier canvas versions - not cheap, but excellent, designed for climbing so proper movement and lots of useful pockets
As a temporary fix to stop yourself slipping on the deck I'm sure you could find a business that is getting rid of used carpet, this could be tacked or glued into place as a short term measure.
since you're changing so much of the sides, why not replace the plywood sides with planking so there's not a split between the upper and lower planking. it should mean a stronger boat?
I've watched a few of your videos where your glueing short sections of the hull. I can't see the total of the construction and I am not a shipwright, but I know that structural strength comes from the shared longitudinal structure of the whole board. It seems you're cutting just through the rotted areas... but to ensure hull integrity up to the knees (the metal bracings transferring the load from the hull to the deck) the boards should be replaced from keel to top board. Long boards, over-lapped with opposite angle boards, are vastly stronger than many shortened boards. Again, not a shipwright, and maybe you have conversed with experts, but I think you two should consult with a shipwright who does this routinely. At least when repairing the hull. With love from the US.
Hi ya, love the vids on this, can I ask if you are going to redesign the top half of the boat, as it looks a bit strange with the highs and lows of the profile of top of the boat,
Ugh! Those slotted screw heads. I've struggled with removing and reinstalling them and that is not easy either direction. Makes you wonder how on earth did they install so many of them!
You still have a lot of work to do. With new tools it is a perfect time to add a dust collection system. As handy as you are you could use your existing Hoover. Both of you are breathing in way too much sawdust. Be safe.
Great analysis, thank you! Just a quick off-topic question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (mistake turkey blossom warfare blade until bachelor fall squeeze today flee guitar). What's the best way to send them to Binance?

My Friday afternoon is so uplifted when your next episode suddenly appears.
You two are so awesome I really look forward to every Friday just to see you working as a team
Thanks so much!!
Watching from a hospital bed. Never wanted more to be helping. Three weeks and still no sign of coming out. Keep up the good work. Hugs.

Festool kapex saws require no space at the rear. Cost a lot though. People better start subscribing to help pay for it =)
@Guvnor100 That the fortune I was talking about 😃

Just for reference..I was taught in engineering college, never to strike two hardened steel hammers together . as one may chip off or shatter....
Hope the fishing and find raising goes well Gemma. Great work both of you.👍
Another great video guys, thanks for posting. Its great fun watching you two work on the boat.
God Bless from Arlington Heights IL, USA🤣👌
Very simple Gemma and Simon I just love your content.
I am amazed at how well you both are making this ship like brand new. I love the videos, please keep up the good work.
Ever since the begining I have been trying to think of ways to reroute the exhaust system to come out of the "wings" above the wheelhouse, it would be really good to get it off the outer hull, certainly not original! Phil, East Yorkshire.
Wow! It looked like it was cold when you were working on the boat. 😁 Your making good progress, keep up the good work.
Another great one, I thought you were already in the aft part but that is the next section. The end was too good and soo funny :-) I love you two :-)
Good job to both of you . Simon those hanging pockets you cut off where made so when you have anything in them and bend over nothing fall out.🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Love the show. In aw of the boat. I have been a big fan of Carhart clothing for 40 years. Most fond of the fire hose carpenter pants.God Bless Y'all.
Fingers crossed and my toes for that next major project, loving the new gadgets too make life easier for you. Great job well done and hope fishing goes well too XX

Fully agree, it's the easiest way to lose your man card

Well done, guys. I'm looking forward to next week's episode ❤
Very nice to see you working toward the stern!

Thx for bringing us along. 😊😊😊

Yous a great little family 🙏👍
You guys are beyond brilliant! ❤
Don’t be afraid to put brace bit on your shoulder and lean into it when working at higher level. That allows more pressure and torque to be exerted.
I truly loved watching you guys work on that boat I'm wondering how many thousands of thousands of pounds British money you're spending I pray you continue and finish the job that you've started it's going to be wonderful thank you for sharing
Gemma, can you remove the two exhausts fixed to the outside hull ? JC .
You have to remember at the time the cable was made it was supposed to have a life of 25 years. Most of us live in houses where that life time has almost doubled!

Fantastic job Guys
Beautiful surroundings love to be in the inter coastal areas it’s paint the boat time watching from South Carolina

Snickers flex work pants but I don’t think you’d like the price lol 😂
I can't even imagine how much rotten wood Simon and Gemma have taken off of Sarinda. This is an AMAZING restoration.
Great episode as always. Hope Sarinda survives the storm 🤞
We used eggshells that are very similar to grits on our narro boat roof. And deck. Lasted till we reluctantly sold her.
you guys make me laugh of much when i watch these. thanks
Just like to say that both you guys do a very terrific job in all weathers on the boat and really enjoy watching all your videos massively!!👍👍💯💯😊😊👊👊😎😎😎👍
I like this scene at 34:29, remembering how it was when you started!
Overalls are the way to go, no restriction on movement and you can wear layers underneath if cold, or nothing if that rocks your boat (pun intended)
Agree with the idea of overalls. I'm a great fan of the old fashioned bib and brace type + you can get them in nice thick cotton..
Todo un reto, gran trabajo 👍🏼👌🏻 saludos.
Holy ship, beautiful hair, Gemma.
Oh thank you!
Seeing how much sawdust you just swept up, and how big that dust bag is, I predicted it has already been taken off.
Great video thanks for sharing. Keep up the great work both. Looking forward to seeing your next video 👍
13:20 Guys, no masks with that moldy dust that thick with the light beaming through it, you should both have respirators with organics and dust cartridges, my god your both gonna have lung disorders before you finish : (

Welcome aboard!
@shiphappensuk you should cross drill some holes through the handle of those clamps so you can use a tommy bar on them.
I always wore Snickers work gear. Quite costly if you don`t find they are for you though...
I used Snickers boiler suits. Underneath I used short leg triathlon top/shorts suits. They can’t roll up like T shirts.
It's called timing....take a part while water is going out then put back together before is comes back in 😉
Blessings both hope that the work next week goes better than expected ❤
For the deck slipperiness why not try those rubber mats they use for when you're standing at work. They tend to stay where they're put even if the floor is slippery without glues or fixings.
Oh Dear, Simon you gotta stop that naughtiness, I don't know, slipping it in the back end? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
AND catching Gemma on the potty!
Back end jobs can get a bit messy at times. Still any port in a storm.
@@hamshackleton 😂😂😂😂
@@KenWilcox-b5c Any holes a goal, apart from a man hole!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lube ,saves the day😂😂😂😂😂
Simon asked Gemma , why did we changed this solid peace of wood? Gemma replied we might as well, Simon don't ask questions simply follow instructions 😅😅😅
Good job Gemma ❤ for cancer ❤
10:39 oooo you talking about trousers 😂
Am I insane? Been working on our extension all day, came in and put this on 😮🤯

That tool box looks like an aircraft drinks trolly!
Add some saw dust to the paint for the decks for better traction it can be sanded easy before finish
Why dont you continue the hull cris cross pattern as a replacement for the plywood? wouldnt that add hull strength for the whole rear of the ship?
Dewalt stretch work pants are the best Ive worn regular fitting loads of room.
Always a pleasure folks!
Looks so good.
Duluth Firehose pants are great.
Hi there we just started watching your videos what is your purpose for the boat when it is done are you going to live on it or use it for leisure
Try the army stores in Heswall for trousers , stay safe
Grit paint is the best method as other systems can remain slippy when wet. A little expensive but well worth it.
Wow next week will be epic
ref Trousers / Work Pants - for articulation and toughness, the Khul pants are epic, it's the heavier canvas versions - not cheap, but excellent, designed for climbing so proper movement and lots of useful pockets
As a temporary fix to stop yourself slipping on the deck I'm sure you could find a business that is getting rid of used carpet, this could be tacked or glued into place as a short term measure.
Yall are the best
Are you pulling the exhaust off prior to removing the internal structure because of the weight Or are you leaving it on as exterior support?
Dickies work wear works for me , keep up the good work
The solid 2.5 mill cable is quite modern, during my apprateship we used 7.029 ie 7 strands of .029 per phase
You don't really want twin and earth cable on a boat, as vibration and structural movement can cause fractures, hotspots and even fires.
Gemma sitting on the Pot! TMI lmao

best thing about Friday is your vlogs so entertaining and funny
Shorts and overalls all year round!
Hi ya, love the vids on this, can I ask if you are going to redesign the top half of the boat, as it looks a bit strange with the highs and lows of the profile of top of the boat,
Like the new woodworking tools but don't forget the masks guys-there was a heck of a lot of sawdust floating in the air ;)
I just sit by my PC every day the whole day waiting for Friday, I don`t move for anything or anyone.
You need an automatic dust extractor on the chopsaw the dust of that is bad for you 👍
Treat yourselves to two diesel heaters. They only cost about £80 and that's self contained. Just add a flexi exhaust pipe.
Do you have a small woodd stove to burn all the wood?
Ugh! Those slotted screw heads. I've struggled with removing and reinstalling them and that is not easy either direction. Makes you wonder how on earth did they install so many of them!
Hi what is the adhesive your using on the double diagonal planking that looks like mastic?
You still have a lot of work to do. With new tools it is a perfect time to add a dust collection system. As handy as you are you could use your existing Hoover. Both of you are breathing in way too much sawdust. Be safe.
Simon needs a pair of MC Hammer's pants from his song U Can't Touch This.
Ironically I like the LIDL parkside workpants.. Cheap too.
Great analysis, thank you! Just a quick off-topic question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (mistake turkey blossom warfare blade until bachelor fall squeeze today flee guitar). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
It’s like the tool chest was made for that spot 👌
Can call your new spreaders 'ship spreaders'
Before you make a dangerous place, is it possible to make a caisson on the outside so that water cannot get into the ship in any case?
It makes a change watching you remove good wood, but its all for the heath of Sarinda. A good girdle for an older lady keeps her in better shape.
