I don't think even Rodgers and Hammerstein realized what they were writing. They were so focused on the music and dances that it flew over their heads what they were doing with the actual story.
Can we just all appreciate Hugh’s acting from 2:30 on? His smug and comical reactions to Jud really getting into the song are the reason I find this so hysterical 😂
The last 20/30 seconds where they sing "Poor Jud" in harmony ... GIVES ME GOOSEBUMPS!!!!! Haven't seen this for years but absolutely loved it, have to consider buying soundtrack and DVD now =P lol xoxox
I have to laugh at this because I was in a production of OKLAHOMA! and our Curly and Judd made the song quite comical. Espically when you actually think about it because Curly is making fun of Judd and Judd doesn't get it.
I was in two productions of Oklahoma -- once in a summer camp production as Curly and another time in college I played Judd. I have to say that Curly had the billing and the songs but doing Judd Frye was more fun!
I remember when I played jud fry. After every night people came up to me, saying sorry you didn't get the girl, I felt so sorry for you. One night someone came up to me and said I wanted you to win, I thought curly was a dick lol
Stockwell Santley Honestly the more I think about the revival the more I like it. It requires a bit of processing. So it could be better if I saw it again tbh.
Stockwell Santley I was seated across the table from Patrick when the lights went out so anxiety lol. And I was like very aware that a gun was gonna go off. It was genuinely terrifying.
Wait, this Curly guy is supposed to be the hero? Isn't he trying to get this guy to kill himself? I never watched all of Oklohoma before, but this "hero" seems like a sociopath here.
I don't think it's meant to be. That's the genius of Roger and Hammersteins music. It was very ahead of its time and looking back now, it's super dark and actually shows the hero in a negative light and shows another dimension to the villian other than him just being the evil villian character. Even a few songs in this musical had to be censored for the film because they were too dark for cinema.
Poor Logan's dead, poor Wolverine is dead Come gather, mutants, round his grave and cry His healing factor's gone, his actor's moving on Oh why'd our favorite X Man have to die?
I love this song soo much & this will always be my favourite version! However I do feel like Gordon Macrae has a slightly better voice in this performance over Hugh Jackman, However I personally think Shuler Hensley sings Juds part alot better. That would be a truly spine tingling rendition if Gordon and Shuler had performed together
Remember watching this in theater class in middle school I was like what is this until I seen Hugh jackman so I was like let me give it a chance and they sung this song 🤧🥲
I've heard a lot of renditions of Jud Fry. But I say, Shuler Hensley's singing voice is super powerful and rich. It's hard to beat his. I've tried singing Lonely room and Jud's part in Poor Jud is dead, I sound good but nowhere as good as Shuler
hey its wolverine! lol. that was unexpected. watching this 'cuz saw my niece's theater company doing this yesterday (she was Laurey, and killed it)... and this scene had me very amused.
I love how this song's melody parallels the classic "here comes the bride", since they contradict each other. I saw this show a little over a month ago in LA and pretty much every song with Curly was nothing more than Curly playing an acoustic guitar and, like, just...no. I hadn't heard almost any of the songs before seeing it and even then, I just felt like there was something wrong with what I was hearing. I'm all for updating classic musicals (my mom and I loved our showing's version of "Can't Say No", because it turned it from "Well, I'm a weak girl who has to listen to men" to "I'm a woman with needs and I can't help myself" and the actress played it to perfection), but don't change the actual music. Update the lyrics a little if they're on the offensive side, but don't change the music itself (on a case by case basis, I'm all for playing into your actor's strengths, which may or may not include changing the music, but this isn't one of those instances). Like, it should be Oklahoma for a new audience and you shouldn't have to have already seen it to like it.
I'm actually working on this song this month. I'm looking forward to singing it at music recital. I've wanted to perform this song for a number of years
It's ironic that Shuler Hensley who plays Jud in this also plays Frankenstein's Monster in Van Helsing. He is another tragically misunderstood recluse. Opposite Hugh Jackman who plays Van Helsing himself
Hugh Jackman can sing and he was dang cute in this show but I just can't get into a bunch of Brits pretending to be Americans. Frankly I don't even understand why they would want to do this?
Things could've taken a different turn for Jud if Curly was a Christian and had told Jud about Jesus. I mean imagine how things would've turned out if Curly felt compassion for Jud and acted like Paul the apostle. Jud would've felt the deep warmth of Jesus's love and Jud would've turned into a new man. But no, Curly just had to be responsible for helping Jud become even more of a really angry beast and creepy stalker
While I definitely here what your saying and I kind of agree, you have to remember that curly's only motive is to court/marry Laurey. In a way it is Laurey's fault for telling him that she is going to the dance with Jud, in fact, she should not have said yes to Jud when asked her if she really didn't wan't to go with him. But hey that's just my opinion. if there is one you can't convince of and that is Jud is a real creep. I've only seen the movie version of this so take my opinion with a grain of salt😊God bless you
I will seriously pay people to not drag politics into all of my childhood memories. Or just daily life. Seriously, do you just need everyone to be sad or argumentative??
Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. This musical is dark AF.
The current Broadway revival can attest to that!
Considering Jud tried to kill Laurie and Curley..we all knew that.
That was mainly movie version. Are you referring to that scene when Curly and Laurie were standing on the haystak and Judd then sets fire to it?
It is not all lovey dovey all the time. Sexual assault, arson, murder, yikes. I love it so much, it will always by favorite.
I don't think even Rodgers and Hammerstein realized what they were writing. They were so focused on the music and dances that it flew over their heads what they were doing with the actual story.

This version is on DVD? :o Where can i find it?
I bought it on Amazon, probably the best place to find it, I got the DVD and soundtrack of this version =) xoxo
+FDrescue18. On amazon
S a me
It makes me wish Hensley played Javert with him in the 2012 Les mis.
Hugh Jackman’s facial expressions are gold.

That harmony section at 03:30 is so beautifully done

The different adaptations are so weird. I genuinely felt like Judd was misunderstood and curly was a jerk all round.
I just got the part of Jud in a professional show!
StateFarmJake_ belated congratulations!
How did it went
Anybody else here after seeing the 2019 Broadway revival? I’ve never been so unnerved by a scene.
I wish it was up here... Can't say I like what I've seen of it so far, but would still like to see what they make of this one and others.
Stockwell Santley Honestly the more I think about the revival the more I like it. It requires a bit of processing. So it could be better if I saw it again tbh.
@@stephpiano2908 'Unnerved' actually seemed pretty good to me! Not often a musical can do that...
The thing is Curly is misjudging Jud. Curly is completely ablivious to what Jesus said about not judging
Agent Fungus
But Hugh Jackman makes him hard to disklike
It's Oklahoma.
technically in other movies he is a hero 😏
I played jud fry in a amateur production a few years ago. A lot of people after the show said they felt so sorry for me and they hated curly lol
I always feel like I'm missing something in this scene?? I don't get how it's funny at all... it's disturbing to me
I don't think it's meant to be. That's the genius of Roger and Hammersteins music. @Ángela Sofía Jaime Moreno Yet, Curly is clearly supposed to be The Hero.
@@Emper0rH0rde the protagonist doesnt have to be a hero
we watched this in my drama class this is a really good play
That last harmony - goosebumps!!
Poor Logan's dead, poor Wolverine is dead
Come gather, mutants, round his grave and cry
His healing factor's gone, his actor's moving on
Oh why'd our favorite X Man have to die?
One word.... Genius!
Well.....this aged like milk.

I found this randomly in my recommended im so confused on what’s going on. Can you explain?
Gordon Macrea was the Curly in 1955 film version.
This is still haunting as he convinces a man to end it all, for his benefit keep in mind
Why does Jud nearly lose it near the end when Curly says "He's looking oh so perty and so nice"?
Because of Jud getting emotional
Remember watching this in theater class in middle school I was like what is this until I seen Hugh jackman so I was like let me give it a chance and they sung this song 🤧🥲
jud is an awesome singer
Yes. You're right. He has a magnificent voice. I'd like to know the actor's name who plays Jud.

hehe this is the backstory of wolverine in the wild west
OMG yes. Yeeeees.
That close up shot when he's crouched down in the fight scene with Jud after the marriage scene reminds me so much of Wolverine lol
Stooooooooop 😂😂😂
*dies laughing* This is awesome! Thanks so much for uploading it =D

In my school play , I do the role of Jud.
2:32 his face is hilarious!
I love duets between two baritones. Listen to Pretty Women from Sweeney Todd
Well. It really does hit different WATCHING it play out.
I saw Jud in an episode of L&O SVU. Great voice,
hey its wolverine! lol. that was unexpected. watching this 'cuz saw my niece's theater company doing this yesterday (she was Laurey, and killed it)... and this scene had me very amused.
In other contexts, Jud would be the story's "bad boy" of the sort that many women find irresistible. I wonder if he had a turn with Ado Annie.
Brilliant!
I like this song
Love this one.

He sounds like Hugh Jackman
That's cause he is
He is!
Really I don't really hear it
...that’s because it is Huge Jackman...
Really I had no idea
2:45.... That face!! 😊😂
It's funny how you say that because ironically this is not that song from The Producers
Me and a friend of mine are singing this for an arts. ed assignment
When you realize that it's Van Helsing trying to convince Frankensteins monster to kill himself
Ummm I’m pretty sure it’s spelled “Daid”
Yep the big crab was right
Haha!
Yeah.
Walter
Tamatoa?
Watching this to research Jud's songs for my school musical.....not sure if gusta.... :)
;-; makes me sad
Josh Groban needs to sing this song
YES! 😍
This whole song is my mentality one half is convincing the other
Anywhere l can see the total production on RUclips?
Rip Jud Fry
Jud looks like Edgar from Men In Black here :)
That's cruel.
Is that Hugh Jackman?
Yes it is
Am I getting this right - he’s encouraging Jud’s suicide?! This is such a messed up musical🤦🏻♂️.
Yep. Only Jud didn't get it.
Hugh Jackman leave this sad man alone😭
This is a bad guy song?
Dingo took me here
Dingo!
God Hugh Jackman please just kiss me once and my life will be fully complete. I mean hello.
The only likable thing about Curly is that he’s played by Hugh Jackman
Pore Jud is daid
Hugh Jackman can sing and he was dang cute in this show but I just can't get into a bunch of Brits pretending to be Americans. Frankly I don't even understand why they would want to do this?
you "do" the role of judd? Oh dear.
English is hard.
