because thats what people were saying about old music when this came out. and like it or not thats what they'll be saying about music nowadays in 10-20 years.
Music is nowhere like this. Once Billie Eilish and Rihanna are tired of their simple and monotonous music genre they'll imitate what was already done. Yet it will not reach this level, because they simply don't put that much effort. I DO NOT have to make an effort and look for 1 good song in a hundred, instead they should fullfill our standards and give us a variety of exquisite music. They know this generation is easily satisfied and do not ask for a lot, unlike the 80's and 90's; where producers like Lionel Richie created literal pieces of art. Now, just put an "aesthetically pleasing", strange and eccentric music video attached to a shitty song and it will be a hit.
@thumbaround reverse finger me daddy 5000 just like you, I agree with some things you are stating here. I do wonder how the world's reaction would be and how music would have evolved if the timing was different. What if Britney Spears made an appearance in the 70's and Elvis Presley made his first debut in 2020. However, musically, it all needed to happen the way it did. A music god like Michael Jackson evolved music in ways nobody has ever done before, he mixed so many music genres which turned out to be what we know today as pop. However, Elvis Presley needed to come up with Rock n' Roll firstly in order for MJ to look for inspiration and create a fusion. I always see MJ as a futuristic person, he was so ahead of time. To the point where he left a legacy nobody has ever been able to beat, or at least imitate. We thought "Wow, if music has gone this far and has grown immensely, I can't imagine what it will become in the 2,000's". Sadly it went down. Simplicity became a trend, in the sense of composition, musicality, voice, lyrics and even lack of instruments. Historic artists have passed away, their producers and directors have also passed away or have retired. Music now days is NOT a style, it just resembles the lack of talent due to these musician's absence. I will forever enjoy past's music, which I clearly do by looking for this song and many other older ones. However, I do wish this new generation could bring fresh new TALENT. I miss that sensation of hearing a new song that I knew would mark a period in my life. In 20 years I can hear that song and have an intense flashback of all the great memories of that time period. That's what true music does. I highly doubt I will remember good periods of my life when I'm 40 by re-listening to Billie Eilish. It all depends on the person and their taste, but objectively speaking; humans have not just ruined music but also the world we live in.
@thumbaround reverse finger me daddy 5000 to be honest, what is the point of attacking someone when you can instead share proven/reliable information and get to a mutual understanding? I am glad that even though it started as a comment against me, at the end, we got to share our opinions and learn from one another. Throught the years, music has been a method of expressing many strong feelings. It is meant to evoke expressions of passion, love, disgrace, rebellion, greed, protest, injustice and many more. Other than a method of expression, it should also make you feel/identify with these feelings. If not, it is pointless to even create music. It has become a commercial thing instead of art. That's when music lost it's escence. A pretty face can make millions for those companies without the necesity of possessing any talent. I do listen to modern music when I'm at a party. Do I appreciate it? No, I maybe just dance to it. Is it even good rhythm? No! It's just funny to me how it's just so bad 😂 like if it was intended to be bad on purpose. Anyhow, some rhythms are catchy and stay on my head all summer like "Get Lucky" (totally forgot the artist but I will edit it and put his name). I do feel lucky to have been born in this generation. I am grateful to so many strong and brave people who have fought for our rights and just the fact that we can have an education makes me proud. But I also feel an enormous responsibility, because the decisions we make today as "millenials" will affect our future and our grandchildren's. It is sad most of this generarion is focused on working to be able to afford luxuries to show them off and do not even read the newspaper. The world is at a crucial stage where our decisions will literally destroy the world or hold on it's distruction a little longer. I know it sounds ridiculous or extreme, but it's a reality. Humans took our home for granted, when the truth is that the things they're destroying do not regenerate. Planet earth is our home and the only place we are able to survive. COVID19 is an important lesson; without humans nature is regenerating and growing stronger. It needed a little break. Even though nature is regenerating, we have to regenerate ourselves too. Hope we make a process of introspection and improve our personalities for the best.
