Dynamic range is much more important than hi or low res. Just my 2 cents

Spoken like a true music lover. Thanks Steve for these subtle tips that are so easily overlooked. One can get over analytical with the setup and stuff and less about actual listening. One needs to take the time be active non distracted listening.

Your listening in the dark is one of the best/easiest tips ever! I think many of us have done that but forget at times. Good stuff.

I have always listened to music with either a small light on with my eyes closed, or in complete darkness. I found from many years of listening experience, that this was the best way to listen to music, as by doing this you become an integral part of the listening experience. It's also the best way to hear any changes made to the sound field, from audio system alterations. Thanks for bringing this up.

Love the bloopers at the end. Each one seemed fine to me, but I realize you wanted to add more info about other social media accounts and patreon.

There is a wonderful Mel Torme CD recorded in Dolby Surround at the Fujitsu Concord Jazz Festival in Japan in 1990. When played on a surround system you really feel like you're actually at the event and that Mel is center stage and you're right there in the audience. It's a really wonderful experience. My system allows me to switch from surround to two-channel, so it's fun having both of those sonic experiences in one system.

way back in the day, when dark side of the moon was new, would turn off all the lights and get in the sweet spot of my mac system and listen to a side of the lp at the end of the day. occasionally would open my eyes to see the green glow. it was so incredibly relaxing.

I finally recently replaced the case fans in my desktop pc that were failing with a pair of Noctua fans with PWM control (the computer can control their speed as needed for cooling). I also changed the CPU fan speed/target temperature settings to slow it down while the load/temperature permits and WOW! It is so much quieter now. I should have done this years ago. Not exactly an 'audio system tweak' but I no longer have to shut off my desktop to hear my stereo/surround sound system better. I highly recommend these Noctua fans. I would have never guessed they would be so advanced.

My intro to Hi-Res was DSDs from Blue Coast Music. They often record in DSD, and have quite a good selection of artists in many different genres. I now have a lot of hi-res digital from 24/96 up to DSD 512.

Profoundly brilliant video. Steve, you are absolutely right about listening in the dark. I like to listen very late night in the dark. Everything sounds better and you nailed it - it's the visual cues that distract from hearing all of the music. I also believe that daytime industry in the grid and the sun can add noise. If you doubt that, listen to short wave radio at noon and again at 2am - big difference with noise interference. Also yell out to someone across from you at a distance and do the same in the dead of night. Nighttime sounds like it travels further.

The weight on top of the speaker....Mass loading. Absolutely ligit It was suggested to me for my Klipsch Forte II seeing how there is no cabinet bracing inside. The difference is undeniable.
