Great demo and playing. I have the combo and absolutely love it. Everyone loves to dismiss the 10" speaker (even when they haven't played one) but it's great for the combo. perfectly matched and if you want more, just hook it up to a 2x12 or 4x12. Marshall killed it with this one.
What volume level do you need to reach to get distortion? I have one but I think it may be faulty, as I'm getting cleans all the way up to 5, can't push it any louder in my apartment 😦
@@shughy1 hey mate. You need a JHS little black amp box into the fx loop to get some gain out of it without blowing you’re ear drums. That will help you control the volume but you mainly get preamp distortion. You’re right, it’s crazy loud with lots of head room. The cleans are awesome though which was a surprise to me and something I love about that amp.
A lot of vintage tones in the music that inspired us in the first place most likely came out a 10" speaker. I've got an old pair of Vox cabs and they're 4X10s. Great sound and cut through any mix.
Thanks Elmo. From the many reviews on YT, I like yours the most. Now to check the combo review as need to decide whether to keep my mini Jubilee Combo or get one of those.
Thanks for this Elmo. Another good thing about this modern combo is that the chassis fascia is facing you so when you look at it you can read it and it's not 'upside down' as with the vintage reissues eg the 1974X. It makes all the difference.....lol

Wow over a hundred comments Elmo ! Gathering pace slowly but surely and very well deserved too. No matter how hard I try I always try and dial in to the old school Marshall sound. You can take the boy out of the 60's/70's but you can't take the Marshall out of the boy lol.
Sweet. It's a mini bluesbreaker...yeah, basically a Plexi in combo form. I believe Marshall made the original for Clapton in his John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers days and put it at 45 watts. JTM 45 in combo form, but with 2 speakers. Yeah, that's the tone. Sweeeeeeetttt!
Dear Mr Man Bun Poneytail. A lot of amps under $1500euros have the ground cables on ribbon cable and the grounds break off making them loud. It happened to my Princeton and I was horrified. I had it modded and had all grounds done properly, then I had all of the cheap Chinese components replaced with good stuff. It is now a thing of beauty, and the mods cost me about 100 euros.
Great review Elmo! Just picked it up this week, $1360 USD, we Americans are getting boned on the Marshall prices. It took me a little more time than other amps to dial in a good tone (think jumping channels is great) but I love it now. It's the perfect practice amp... if you want to be deaf as shit at the end of every practice.
It's so cute and rocking 😍 i was worried it would be too wimpy due to small cab. Added bonus for viewers; maybe a db meter displayed in the room? You rock Elmo 🤘😉
Sounds good Elmo! I tried one of these and the JCM800 20 watt reissue when they came out for the first time in my local guitar store sometime last year (or the year before - I forget). Great amps, but the plexi that stole my heart is the Friedman Mini Dirty Shirley (head and cab) that I HAD to own after it came in 2nd hand at a great price. I still own it and love it. Once you find that one plexi amp - that's all you need mate!
I hope you were able to get this Marshall! I have the head (due to very demanding clients that always want some unique speaker or cabinet). Love this head, it freaking rocks
I love the scalloped-neck strat and natural timber finish. The combo sounds very good into a bigger cab but I am surprised with the 10" speaker - it kicks some serious sound. Humbuckers would fatten it up? Love your rock guitar playing. Good video and appraisal.
Awesome playing and the sound I am looking for. Really. I dug MESA amps for years and searched for one in my country but no luck, but seeing those Marshalls...
Holy sheeet! It sounds really great. And I wish I recorded my face reaction once you switched to that darker channel first time with neck pickup (woooot) xD so damn cool sounds ;)
Very good amp, indeed!!! And the versatility adds up, you can grab and go to a gig, this in one hand and a guitar in the other and you're good to go! I was expecting to hear it with an SD-1 or a TS-9 in front and maybe the MXR micro chorus you have on the back BEFORE the drive for '80s style heavy metal (Zakk Wylde, Judas Priest etc.)!!! And the 10 inch speaker is very good and full sounding! It may lack some bass compared to the 4x12 but, hey, it's less boomy and it'll cut through the band.
Hi Elmo. I’m searching for an amp that could be near Gary’s tone but exclusively in the Montreux 1995 concert. So no high gainish soldanoish or late 90’s tone, in that concert is classic rock tone at his best. I can’t buy a 1987 or a 1959, I play at bedroom volume at most so even a 20w is loud. The question is, do you think this can be ok to achieve that tone (given I don’t have Greeny, Stripe and Gary’s fingers above all)? I’m thinking to buy the sv20h
Sounds nice but they list £800 here in the UK It really depends on the player, it would not make one once of sense to invest in a amp of that price if your not going further then your den but that's me, I am on that quest searching for that amp, the Spark looks nice but I am not sure if I want to fart about looking for a sound, so far in the lead of my choices is the Blackstar HT1-R , don't think you tested that one yet , just seems to be the perfect home amp for those who want that tube sound without being evicted lol nice playing Elmo ,

Haven't tried the Origin 20C, but I'd wager it is.
@@MrPolevaulter Thanks for your reply! Cheers
Just fyi. If it's the sc20 here in the states at Sweetwater it's $1499.00..
Let's hope live music is back soon.
---> 9:22 what is that song? Hey man youre such an awesome guitarist you could make a $10 amp sound good ! Great reviews rock on
Thanks! It's Miracle Man by Ozzy Osbourne.
When are the guitar Olympics?
Seems u have a lot of fun with the amp/combo 😂😂👍👏👌
Yep :)
Hi, what song are you playing at 7:40??
I'll See The Light Tonight
That amp sounded great Elmo. You were firing on all cylinders with the YJM & EVH licks and nice to hear a touch of Gary Moore too. Still don't get why modern day Marshall amp builds are so often let down by opting for a less than 12 inch speaker / enclosure. Even my very first combo as a kid (5 watt Marshall Mercury) back in 1973 had a12 inch speaker.
Yeah, that is a bit strange. Oh, and thanks :)
Hm, this one or the head version?
Head version for me.
@@MrPolevaulter Why? Is the speaker bad in the combo?
Is volume pot viable in the effects loop as these are too loud for home.
Yeah
Still My Bleeding Heart... nice.
Yep. Great song :)
I don't usually like the Marshall sound, but that thing works for me! P. S. Elmo, I'd love to see you try a Peavey Classic 30!
Been thinking of trying one at some point, so you probably will :)
@@MrPolevaulter great stuff! I tried one years ago and found it to have the best mild break up sound I've ever heard!
899? Wish it was now.
Agree Elmo.... hot damn lol....
Would you say that it is as good as the head in terms of sound and feel? Greetings from Germany!
Yes, I think so.
THis ampppp IS insaneeeee !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Haha :D Yeah :)
I like it.
Me too :)
The guitar sounds very nice!!! What is it?
It's that thing: ruclips.net/video/P_E8p2DoZoY/видео.html
Hi, what song are you playing at 9:22 ?
Miracle Man
I guess you cant go wrong with this amp...if you have the money.
Sure is a good amp. And regarding what Luke said, I'd say some people just won't have the money if they're already living hand to mouth, but that's a different discussion.
is this one suitable at 5 watt for use at home ?
Probably not, but you can stick a volume pot in the loop and get it as quiet as you want.
