Do you ha e an automation for Aqara switches and motion sensors to turn off the light in places like your laundry room after no motion for 2-3 minutes? I cannot figure it out. Any help appreciated!
@@andreww9844 For my motion automations in that laundry room and closet, I just have the automation to turn on the light when motion is detected, and turn off after 2 minutes.
@@andreww9844 It's not a shortcut, just a native home automation. When you choose the light that turns on in the automation, there is an option to "turn off after" and you can choose the amount of time.
Nice setup. However I went out of my way to make all my Smart-home local control so I do not need an internet connection. How much of this can you control when the internet goes down? Oh and I even made my mail box notify me when mail arrives (I have a video of it.)
I love, love, love your videos. I just wanted to share a little excitement. I was able to successfully integrate my Mitshubishi Split units into HomeKit using the hooks. Today I was able successfully control them via my ecobee thermostat through home kit using automations. When the temp hits 71 on the ecobee the mini split shuts off, when it hits 70 degrees on the ecobee it turns back on to 72 degrees. I too have to have the wife’s approval on my HomeKit stuff. She wants it to JUST WORK so I was limited to very simple automations. This was a big win. Now to let the creative juices flow.

This the type of smart home I want to have one day that works well with homekit and my other Apple devices. I got into the ecosystem, not tryna have that debate, after buying my MacBook M2 then months later I bought a new Apple TV model as ours was outdated as well as 2 homepod minis for the stereo effect and me knowing how well Apple devices work together the experience will be amazing. My dads Lenovo desktop is also a little outdated so I want to buy him an iMac. My craziness is justified given how well all these devices work so well together and one day, ONE DAY, I’ll have an amazing smart home to the likes of yours that’ll work well with my entire family’s Apple devices. Funny, we’re an Apple family however don’t use Apple devices and the home we moved into worked better with Android devices; the way things turned out but it is what it is. Thanks for the amazing video though and keep up the astounding work! ❤
Interesting to see how you in usa approach the world of smart home control. I see mainly a big bunch of smart devices in the video. In europe we like our homes smart without seeing all those devices so our minimalistic approach (based on the idea of energy control) with the help of smart home control is more based on OEM zigbee drivers and circuit boards that we can connect on high end devices that we hide and don’t see and works like a blanket around us that increases high energy cost. one thing , ilove your house and everything it has the best home kit accessories and everything but it needs some modern kitchen...and the tv needs an upgrade like 2016 come on but ither than that great video
What’s the difference between HomePod and ATV as hub. In apple site the description on HomePod says only HomeKit thread are supported. For ATV it says HomeKit or thread devices supported. Is there any difference?
It’s nice to see what’s changed and what you’ve updated. I’m surprised that nothing major has changed outside of Matter. I’m about to upgrade everything because my smart plugs and lights aren’t up to date. Not sure if they will work with Thread once I get the new home pods. Guess I’ll have to get rid of my regular HomePod for the minis. Seems odd.
Much needed vid thanks for sharing and giving us great ideas, I’m surprised you didn’t use the motion sensor on the actual Ecobee to activate the iPad to turn it on instead on the Aqara sensor.
Thanks for watching! I tried that a long time ago, but it just didn't seem too responsive. Not sure if it's the Ecobee sensor itself or the placement of it. The Aqara sensor was much more responsive.
Excellent video and I am looking forward to linking up some Matter devices - I have all HomeKit now - lights and sound - I hope to connect door bell and camera asap
I think my biggest thing, is my Garage door linked to my garage lights using APple's Home App. So when the door opens, the garage light turns on, and when the garage door closes, the lights go off. I can lift my wrist and just say "Open Garage" and my garage door opens and the garage lights turn on. The garage is how we come and go normally. Not through the front door. Best of all, it doesn't matter if you use Siri, or you push the button on the wall, or use your normal RF remote. The lights is still linked to the door and works So much better than just the weak lights from the opener itself. That is an Insane amount of smart stuff being used.
Thanks for sharing Shane, great video. By the way, which outdoor contact sensor are you using for your gates? You mentioned Aqara but can‘t seem to find any outdoor versions online.
Shane you mentioned you weatherproofed your Aqara door sensors for your external gates. What all did that entail? IE 3D print a cover, open it up and fill it with epoxy, slap a ziploc bag on it? I ‘mm looking for ideas as i recently ruined an Aqara door sensor outside on my gate and was going to look into doing the same thing. Thanks
Great video showing all your different smart home accessories that you always do reviews off on your channel. Can I ask, what app was runn on your wall mounted iPad the interface looks great Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Have you ever looked into Ubiquiti products for networking, access points and there POE cameras. Wish I could send you pictures of my set up. I have my current home using there products right now with cameras outside and access points in the ceilings. I was also able to view all the cameras on my HomeKit app
What kind of WIFI setup do you have? I have tried both Eero and Orbi and they seem to can’t handle the amount of devices I have connected. (150). I see you used Orbi. What model and how many access points do you use?
Wow! ok I knew you had a full set up, but DANG!! Thanks for the tour....And my jaw dropped when you said you have an 18 year old (you don't look that far off of 18 yourself!! lol)
Great videa Shane, thanks for that! One question about reolink cameras. I saw your video how to get it work with homekit, but I was wondering how you connected everything. Is it from DVR to switch and to NAS where you can use homebridge to get it work with homekit? thanks
Thanks Michael. Personally, I'm using the Reolink NVR, connected to my Network Switch. The NAS (with Homebridge installed) is also connected to the same switch. Technically, one could bypass the Reolink NVR and use something like Synology "Surveillance Station" if you have a Synology NAS. I opted to use the Reolink NVR tho just to keep all that processing and storage separate since I use my Synology for a lot of other things.
will u be upgrading the caseta dimmers to the diva casetas? i got one and it really is much nice to dim with the slider now than to just hold that damn button on the first version, cool setup!
Hey Shane! Congrats for the video! for Lutron switches, where did you buy the inner wall brackets? common building material store? I had to put 6 of them together and I couldn't find it on the internal wall support...
haha no. I get them sent to me for reviews so I have more than I would have bought otherwise. I do like having them in the bedrooms though, especially where I sleep. Thanks for watching!
Do you ever have any IP addressing issues? I’ve found from time to time, with so many devices on a single router I’ll have addressing conflicts. Basically two or more devices will end up with the same IP address and end up not working. So I’basically ended up assigning static IPs to hundreds of devices just to prevent that.
Thanks for watching Julien. I don't really have many thoughts on Ikea one way or another, as I haven't really used any of their products. The only Ikea smart home stuff I've used was the shades and Tradfri hub, and that didn't go too well. Maybe I'll give their new hub a try one day.
I'm using the iPad in guided access mode with a motion sensor to wake it up. I discussed it in this video here ruclips.net/video/NvRzNE5PdwA/видео.html
Great video, thanks for sharing. Is it possible to create an automation in HomeKit to turn on and play Apple TV at a particular and then turn it off after a few hours? It doesn't matter what "channel" is played on the TV just want something to play to make it look like someone is home for security purposes. Thanks
Thanks Robert. It might be possible using time based automations. I think it would be easier with a HomeKit enabled TV that you could turn on and off. For example if you turned on the TV (with HDMI CEC enabled) and left your live tv app open last, it should open up right to that.
Another great video! Keep them coming. But yeah….about those Ecobee sensors; they’re trash. I have the newer current ones with my Ecobee Premium and they absolutely suck at detecting motion in HomeKit. Just trash.
Hey Shane! Awesome video. I had some real issues with eufy outdoor cameras and Apple TV. Are your POE cameras scripted so you can see them on Apple TV?
Shane! You're the Man!!!! This is an awesome setup. I'm possibly 50% to your progress. Trying to be like you when I grow up. Lol. I've been getting my HomeKit tips from you since I've discovered your channel. Keep up the awesome work!!! My house will soon be fully automated thanks to you.
Love to know more about the mounted iPad.. How do you make it respond to motion sensors (Siri Shortcuts, I’d guess?) and what app/interface/whatever was it showing here?
I know you don't use Eero, but I do, has any other Eero user had issues connecting the Phillips Bridge to the eero (they fixed it kind of). Now all 3 lights come on behind the Eero, but when you try to connect it to your Apple Homekit, homekit can not find it. It sees it, but when you click to link it, it takes forever and then fails to connect. (HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE) Has anybody figured out how to fix this issue that only seems to be with Eero routers. Both Eero and Phillips hue push blame on each other. Any help would be appreciated, Semper Fi and Happy Veterans Day. BTW, I love your channel. I've already tried rebooting everything, including the phones and iPad Air (4th gen). all firmware is current on everything. I'm considering switching to Google home since I'm obviously too stupid to use Apple Homekit. I have the hardware for all the major assistants. My main things to control are from the SmartThings hub and lifx, hue, lockly, and August, with a couple Silvania motion sensors (that I can get anything to connect to).
Hi Shane, I love your channel, it’s been so helpful in this past year as I’ve created my HomeKit home. I’m curious who service provider. I made the mistake of switching to TMobile’s new Wi-Fi modem and it’s not working with my devices well at all. I currently have an Eero 6 modem and 2 extenders, but since switching to the TMobile Wi-Fi my HomeKit has been going unresponsive and I need a new internet provider. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.
Thanks for the support! Glad to hear the channel has been helpful. I’ve used Spectrum as my ISP for the longest time (only option in my area until recently) but recently switched over to fiber thru a local power company.
I am moving into a newly built home currently and they have the laundry room set up as the "network closet". When we had the internet guy come out to install a modem they said wifi isn't the best for that room because it's closed off and the signal can't go far. You have your modem and all the smart hubs in your room though. Do you have issues with the hubs connecting to the smart devices (ex. hue hub in a closed room with hue bulbs that are over 75 feet away.)?
Thanks Lee. I did that using guided access mode on the iPad. It's explained in this video (see chapter timecodes) ruclips.net/video/NvRzNE5PdwA/видео.html
Do you have issues with time based automations? Not sure if it started with iOS/iPadOS 16 but whenever I change a time based automation it doesn’t fire off at the new time. Even if the time is changed it fires off at the original time. Very frustrating How did the iPad come on with a motion sensor?
Hi. Maybe you already have the question, but how did you make the ipad turn the light on from a Aqara motion sensor? I have 2 wall mounted ipads. Thanks for your videos i started build smarthome with your help. From Denmark.
Hi Dannie, thanks for watching. I used the iPad in Guided Access mode and notifications from the motion sensor. It is explained more here: ruclips.net/video/NvRzNE5PdwA/видео.html
Thanks Sam! I'm using the iPad in guided access mode with a motion sensor to wake it up. I discussed it in this video here ruclips.net/video/NvRzNE5PdwA/видео.html
Great vid again dude - My question is, how do you control the brightness of your wall mounted iPad by motion? I can’t see how this can be done even with shortcuts/pushcut…?
Thanks Jon! I'm just sleeping and waking the screen. I use a little hack that utilizes guided access mode and motion sensor notifications. I discussed it some in this video (see the chapters for time codes) ruclips.net/video/NvRzNE5PdwA/видео.html
Has anyone else had issues with the Abode system no longer showing popup notifications on the Apple TVs when the system arms/disarms since iOs/TV OS 16?
I used hoobs for a long time and have even gone back and forth with homebridge. Since setting up my NAS (seen in video), I'm able to just install homebridge or hoobs on the NAS, eliminated the need for an additional hub in the room.

Hey Shane! Awesome video. I had some real issues with eufy outdoor cameras and Apple TV. Are your POE cameras scripted so you can see them on Apple TV?
Yes, I can see all of my cameras that are exposed to homekit on the Apple TV.
Haha thanks so much for the support!
Great video! I have several questions. The first is what sprinkler system did you install to operate with the Yardian controller?
Thanks Alan. I already had an in-ground irrigation system. I just replaced the controller with the Yardian Pro.
Love to know more about the mounted iPad.. How do you make it respond to motion sensors (Siri Shortcuts, I’d guess?) and what app/interface/whatever was it showing here?
Hey Tony, here is a video I did about my wall-mounted iPad that answers all of these questions: ruclips.net/video/NvRzNE5PdwA/видео.html
I noticed in this video that you “turn on” your wall-mounted iPad. Would you please help me out and explain how you actually control the iPad?
Sure, I explained it more here in this video: ruclips.net/video/NvRzNE5PdwA/видео.html
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for replying, I really appreciate it
I am moving into a newly built home currently and they have the laundry room set up as the "network closet".
Great video👍🏻 how did you do the turn on iPad with motion detection?
Thanks Lee. I did that using guided access mode on the iPad. It's explained in this video (see chapter timecodes) ruclips.net/video/NvRzNE5PdwA/видео.html
@@ShaneCreates cheers Shane, top quality videos as always. Keep up the hard work 👍🏻
Do you have issues with time based automations? Not sure if it started with iOS/iPadOS 16 but whenever I change a time based automation it doesn’t fire off at the new time. Even if the time is changed it fires off at the original time. Very frustrating
How did the iPad come on with a motion sensor?
Can you share the link to the smart sprinkler system you have?
Sure it the Yardian Pro here: geni.us/YardianPro
Awesome video
Great smart home tour! How do you make the iPad turn on automatically on that screen when motion is detected?
Thanks Sam! I'm using the iPad in guided access mode with a motion sensor to wake it up. I discussed it in this video here ruclips.net/video/NvRzNE5PdwA/видео.html
@@ShaneCreates Amazing thank you!
@@ShaneCreates very clever, thanks man ✌🏼
14:31 love how u need to cut the video cause it takes too long to turn on the light haha..
Bro!! What is the iPad app you use for your wall mounted iPad? Very nice by the way.
Thanks! I used Viz Designer to create my custom HomeKit dashboard ruclips.net/video/F5xCMwGQig8/видео.html
which door sensor are weather proof? could you please share the link? thanks
I am using Aqara contact sensors that I weatherproofed to work outside. Full video on that here: ruclips.net/video/4WY4aNWQcrc/видео.html
Has anyone else had issues with the Abode system no longer showing popup notifications on the Apple TVs when the system arms/disarms since iOs/TV OS 16?
Whats the link For the Smart sink?
Didn’t see a hoobs device in that closet. Did you stop using It? You’re literally the reason why I got A hoobs box after seeing your video on it
I used hoobs for a long time and have even gone back and forth with homebridge. Since setting up my NAS (seen in video), I'm able to just install homebridge or hoobs on the NAS, eliminated the need for an additional hub in the room.
Great video! Thank you! How did you get an Apple TV remote to work when Apple TV unit is hidden behind the TV?
Thanks for watching! The remote works via bluetooth so does not require line of sight.
@@ShaneCreates At first setup of Apple TV 4K mine did not work when behind tv. Weird. I will try again. Thank you.
