I love companies that are so transparent and strive to continuously improve their product as well as listen to feedback from customers. I don't own one, but I've read everything and watched everything I could and I'll eventually be able to afford one of these babies!
Excellent changes. The standby switch caught me early on and I WAS upset and bemused by my otherwise wonderful machine. Thankfully you sorted my problem. Continue the great work 😊👍
Love it. I just received mine a couple weeks ago and had no clue it was already up to date with these improvements! Thanks for constantly improving! Loving it.
Awesome that the new intake filter is completely compatible with all older machines! Sounds silly but the metal mesh filter was my least favorite thing on my model.
I just received my machine with the new handles. I really like them and was a great surprise. The only issue is that the other portafilter handles I ordered (double spout and tea) still have the old black handles and don’t match. I’d encourage offering the new handle with those, as well. Obviously, taste is subjective but seeing them in person, I think the new handles look great and even better if they are more durable.
@@decentespresso Thank you for that link. I may be mistaken, but I believe I ordered in a window where the new handles were not available to order with add-on portafilters. I don't think I had a way to know that I would have mismatched handles. I'd prefer matched but not worth $140 to replace the black handles on my tea and double portafilters. On a positive not, I am loving the machine. I go to bed like it is Christmas, excited to get up in the morning and make espresso and cappuccinos. Loose leaf tea is easy and fun, too! I may reach the 200K brews within the week. :)
Still think the 2 versions below the XXL should come with 2-3 holes on the steam wand. Upgrading soon and this machine is high on my list. But still using a single steam wand hole on a machine over 2k,kinda want to expand both my espresso shots and my micro foam.
Great overview! And really great to see this level of improvements! Any news on the steam wand temperature sensor that Lifestyle Lab mentioned you were looking into?
While I enjoy the cleaner look of the faceplate, I’m curious about replacing a damaged one or the tape failing. Some type of integrated alignment would be great. A 3d printable jig would also be awesome
@@decentespressotech Glue can change chemically over time and then fail, especially when exposed to heat from the machine or exposed to chemicals such as ozone (e.g. from a coral reef tank erroneously placed nearby). I presume you contracted with a supplier that has artificially tested for this and warranted stability for 20+ years. I would have expected you to achieve this look with internal bolts to angle brackets.
Nice video. I think you've potentially got an unresolved and confusing issue with the "standby" button on the tablet. Since it has the same iconography as the power button, and especially because it actually causes the light to go out on the power switch, there is a cognitive disconnect in the functionality that remains. You ought to change the iconography and/or label in the app to indicate that this button is actually different in function to the physical button on the machine. My suggestion is to go with "low power mode" or "sleep mode" on the tablet, and use a "Z Z Z" icon. Really, anything other than the same power icon will do. This way, the power button will truly be regarded as what it's iconography suggests it is, which is a power on/off switch. People might still wonder why the tablet turns on when the power is off according to the switch (this is unlikely to be a problem as people already know that the tablet is battery powered), but you can show a modal pop-up which warns the user that the power is off and the machine will not function if they wake up the tablet while the power is off. I imagine you probably are already doing this, but I'm not sure as I haven't purchased my DE1 yet!
Yeah, it's a tough design topic, because the "Screen saver" on the tablet dims the tablet, and also cools the DE1, and the reverse too (out of screen saver = warm machine). In many ways that's very logical, but it's not commonly done.
@@decentespresso I hear you. I think the mental model I have for how this should work is similar to how the power light and power button works on my PC. You might choose to do something similar. In this case, the physical power button is a hard kill switch, as is the case on the DE1. Then, the standby button on the tablet (same as in the OS on my PC) causes the machine to go into standby, and the power light flashes. In normal operation, the power light is fully lit. The only issue here is that because you're using a two-state switch type button, the flashing power light might make people think that they should press the physical button to wake the machine, which isn't unreasonable, but would cause the power to turn off. I can understand why you would want to turn off the power light on the switch for this reason, so people aren't tempted to press it to wake their machines. However, that's also why I think you don't want to have the power icon used on the tablet when it really means sleep. It might lead people to make the opposite mistake, and just power down the machine when they really meant to hit the physical switch.
Love the work guys - it’s amazing to follow the innovation you’re making to the product. With the changes to the front panel, does that reduce the ability for home users to easily maintain/service the machine?
Every so slightly. It's just double sided tape, so you can still remove the front panel and replace it, but realistically, this was nothing anyone ever needed to do.
@@decentespresso Will you ever offer the base DE1PRO in White? I really would like to purchase, but my wife controls the counter (no black), and I can't justify the price delta at the moment. Hopefully, it's a base color option soon! Overall great update.
Wood handles has been used with espresso machines for decades. What you need is better quality wood. Also there are many dark wood as well as naturally black wood (such as African black wood).
if it's food safe, you can, but we also now put tiny o-rings around each of those upper screws, which will also help. v1.44 is now shipping on most of our DE1 models, and all should be shipping by end of January.
I’m concerned about the indentations ‘decent’ and ‘UP’ on the inner sealing surface of the gasket. Gaskets work by holding pressure on both sealing surfaces. Haven’t you created very small ‘path of least resistance’ pressure breakdown paths across the letters?
@@decentespresso thanks for the reply. Perhaps in a future revision the indentations can be on the side, with an arrow up. This would leave the two main sealing surfaces intact. Just an eng talking. 😅 Really impressed with what I’ve seen so far. Love your engineering approach, design for repair ability, over the air updates, and transparent communications. Your machine is at the top of my list.
if i want to buy screws in front panel model.. how can i to do??? i can't belive the front panel fixed only 3of 3m sticker. the esspresso machine have high temperature the sticker wil be meltdown one or two years later...
It’s definitely a matter of personal preference. I don’t love the swirled look either. I’m about to pull the trigger will see if I can get the natural oak handles with the black machine.
Quick update: after reaching out to Decent, I found that you *can* swap out the resin handles when ordering the DE1 for a different type without incurring the cost of purchasing them standalone. I went with the natural oak for a nominal increase of $10 per handle. Totally reasonable, IMO.

Call me crazy but metal fasteners seem like an upgrade to double-sided, sticky tape.
