@@MikeDeCanter but so many Kerastase products have Sodium Laureth sulphate and silicones in them especially the Blonde Absolu they are the first on the list I think
@@helenalovelock1030 that’s why I don’t like kerastase. No nourishing ingredient or barely any. My fave high end in that group is OUAI! Has silicone but amazing ingredients as well.
Silicones are added to shampoos as a detangling agent and to reduce loss of natural lipids which leads to dryness although I admit that I see little benefit from them.
I tried haircare without silicones and i couldnt comb my hair at all. I got split ends. I used henna and it dried my hair. I tried ayurvedic powders, aloe vera, oils and my hair looked bad. Now i really dont know what to do. I still use no sulfate shampoo which i like. But what about the conditioners...the natural ones dont detangle at all!
I grew up for years thinking silicone was bad and only used silicone free conditioner n oils to condition and my hair kept breaking due to tangling n low heat protection due to no silicones. Since ive gone back to silicones my hair is super healthy! Granted i dont use shampoo with heavy silicone i prefer it in my conditioner. However, if i do use silicone shampoo I will make sure to use a clarifying shampoo later in the week

Great video! I was looking at a professional hair care line from a stylist on utube. I was going to buy their hair repair package until I got the ingredients list from them. Everything was ok until you got to their pre-styling oil based product. I’ll put the ingredients list below: cyclopentasiloxane, cyclomethicone, dimethicone, isopropyl myristate, c12-15 alkyl benzoate, phenyl trimethicone, avocado oil, certified organic argan nut oil, octyl methoxycinnamate, vitamin E, essential oils: patchoulli, organic sweet orange, rosewood, ylang ylang, clovebud It has 4 silicones, 3 on which are basically water insoluble. That’s just nuts and the first 3 ingredients are silicones. If it wasn’t for your video I wouldn’t have known what to look for. Thank you so much! I sent the company a reply email basically saying, “what the hell.”
Just looked at Kérastase nutritive magistral leave in and the second one is dimetocone. I don't know if I'm going to like this bit just bought it so we'll see.
Our Aussie Miracle Mask has different ingredients in Canada. Even the bottle never looked like yours over the years. Not sure why companies can’t be consistent.
I absolutely love your channel. I recently purchased the Kérastase Resistance on your recommendation. I absolutely love it! Makes my hair feel so soft and bouncy and has also made shinny and that is so hard for blonde hair. Thank you! 💕 from 🇦🇺.
PSA for ingredient list readers: These are chemicals. Maybe dimethacone is the only silicon kerastase could find that played well with the other more expensive chemicals in the formula? We aren’t cosmetic chemists. Sometimes the “bad” chemical isn’t considered “bad” when paired with another that needs it to work, or even at a different ph. Just looking at ingredients lists tells you very little without a chemistry background. No beauty guru on RUclips has this knowledge, even the doctors don’t- it is only the cosmetic chemists that can tell you when an ingredient is a problem or not- you need the entire list of ingredients to make that assessment
My hair tangles up really easily, that’s primarily why I use a leave-in. But silicones do seem to weigh my fine hair down. but I can’t get a comb through my hair without the leave-in. Have you heard of the hydrolyzed silk products and whether it would help with the detangling? Or can the silk also cause build-up?
Hydrolyzed silk is a type of protein. If you don't have protein issues with your hair don't use it. I destroyed my hair with that because I applied it after I did a protein treatment and didn't actually know until then that hydrolyzed silk was protein.
There are different types of silicone too so maybe try different things out and find one that help? My hair is extremely porous and just being in its natural state means damage. I can go outside in the fog for a little bit and the back of my head is wet from the water being sucked up. I need silicone that can keep in the moisture I put in while keeping my hair from sucking up too much. All of that constant fluctuate of the hair follicle from the moisture constantly swelling the shaft of the hair will cause damage.
I was supposed to exercice 🙄 now im watching your channel since 1hour30 🤦♀️🥰 glad I found you . You look passionate about your subject 🌸 gonna order the kerastace genesis 😇
Great video. And though Kerastase is known as very good product for hair i checked a lot of them has dimethicone and amidimethicone as 2nd or 3rd ingredient. Does that mean on the long run kerastase could damage hair?
silicones dont damage the hair, they do the opposite, they create a coating on the surface of the hair which temporarily protects the hair from friction, humidity, and heat. it also gives a lovely shine and soft feeling to the hair!
I just don't understand why manufacturers put silicones in shampoo. I have an old bottle of Redken shampoo which contains at least two silicones. I no longer use it.
I’m using the Kerastase CHROMA ABSOLU Bain Riche Chroma Respect sulfate free shampoo for color treated hair. Read ingredients and no silicones in it. My hair stylist used Kerastase Resistance Serum Therapiste before she blowe dried my hair. Should I put it on the scalp as well as mid shaft to ends? Or not put it on scalp. I haven’t bought it yet cause my salon is sold out of it. Going to buy it from another salon. Want to make sure I use it properly.
I just bought a leave in from Kerastase, guess what the second ingredient is after water, silicone. I can’t believe I didn’t notice that before buying. That can’t be good.
I would absolutely love and appreciate if you did a video or videos on the olaplex line and all the different silicones in each and explain the type. I literally love this line but im afraid it has the bad type of silicone 😫
This is the first time I've seen a video from you. I found it by mistake when I was Googling something about silicone's. What a great video you're so awesome, thanks, Mike!! Here's help with one pronunciation - Dimethicone = Dye - meth - i (like the way you would say icky) - cone (like a cone for ice cream) = 4 syllables However, I like your idea of just putting them somewhere on the screen and it doesn't matter how you pronounce them. Take good care.
For me it’s not about whether there are silicones or not, but rather the quality of silicones that are used. I think of it like food ingredients. To an extent an egg is an egg, but not every egg is of the same quality. The taste and overall performance of that egg in your cooking is influenced by the quality of the egg. This is also true for silicones. To an extent dimethicone is dimethicone, but what is listed as dimethicone on an ingredient list may or may not be the highest quality. The overall formulation of the product also influences things like build up potential. There are cakes that are light and fluffy or dense and heavy, but both contain eggs and oil and butter etc. One of the best haircare brands I’ve ever used is Davines, and they use A LOT of water-insoluble silicones in their products. At the same time, I experience the fewest issues with buildup when I use Davines products. Silicones are also superior to any alternative at reducing friction and protecting against heat. So, are there products out there with silicones that suck? Yeah, totally. Is it also true that the most coveted, luxury haircare brands formulate with silicones? Absolutely. I don’t think any one ingredient can tell you much about what a product will do for you. The eggs, milk, and oil won’t tell you much about the characteristics or deliciousness of the cake that was made using those ingredients. The end product has a very different set of characteristics than any one of the ingredients in isolation.
Thanks for the nice Video!! The John Frieda mask has even more silicone in it. The third ingredient is cyclopentasiloxane, which also is a silicone. Google said it is also hard to dissolve. Hi Sandra, I bought my sister a shampoo and conditioner from the brand Viori. It’s a bar formula that is supposedly made from rice water. Their promotion video made the product look promising. Anyway, she felt like it left a lot of residue on her hair but I’m not sure if it’s just because of the bar or if it’s the rice water. 🤔 Mike, maybe you can do a review on bar shampoos and conditioners! Would love your professional take on it!
Hello, Mike! You've been talking about claryfying the scalp a lot for silicone buildup, and I've been wondering; do I need a different shampoo than, let's say, a Kerastase, since that would have silicone too? Or is only shampooing twice enough? Thanks!
Hey i love your videos, i wanted to ask you two questions. One is what you think about Bumble and bumble while you sleep masque and go big treatment. Also is kérastase fusio scrub apaisant good for clarifying? Thank you
Hey Mike! Thank you so much for all your informative films! I have learned so much from watching you! Question: I have fine hair and have been using the Kerastase Genesis line. I love the smell and way it makes my hair feel but I find my hair feels a bit heavier than other shampoos. What is your Kerastase suggestion for someone with fine natural hair? ( fine natural red head here☺️)

Thanks so much for this video! I have a question 🙋🏼♀️ So, I have a lot of product buildup in my hair? I’m going to switch to Kerastase, but how do I remove the build up? I’ve heard clarifying shampoo’s are good! What one do you recommend?
It would be good idea to get rid of build up 1st. Paul mitchelle shampoo 3 is very good for build up. use it few times until the buildup is gone and then start with your Kerastase

After watching this video , i check that product -“ BANG” found dimethicone second in this list. Immediately Chuck in the bin
I'm currently thinking about getting the function of beauty shampoo and conditioner, it has an option to go silicone free or not - what do you think I should go for? My hair is medium structure and wavey and can be frizzy if that helps haha
Hang on, I'm confused... You say here that dimethicone is a bad, cheap silicone, yet in another video you absolutely praise L’Oréal Professionnel Metal Detox Concentrated Oil where this ingredience is no 4 ingredient on the list. Please can you clarify this? Thanks 👍
I’ve seen shampoos with sulfates and amodimethicone and non water sulable silicones which I steer clear! I also hate seeing people using clarifying shampoo and then coating there hair with conditioner with dimethicone as 2nd ingredient or have 2 or more silicones… I don’t understand why people do that.
hi mike!i wanted to ask if the silicones in bain satin 1 are safe for my hair...because i noticed that dimethicone is on the 4th place on the ingredient list and i really dont want any build up!
hey Fran never had an issue with build up from Bain Satin but if your hair is fine i would probably stay away from it. Check out my film on the nutritive range as i explain everything in full detail x
This is very educational! I've been binge-watching your channel every night during the quarantine 😄. I used to have this wavy, voluminous hair up until my teenage years. As I grew older, the texture began to change and I can pretty much say it's totally thin and straight now. I don't know if it's because I've been washing it too often, or because I blow dry my hair every day or the drugstore products I use, or maybe something genetic or hormonal, since I was very very inattentive (guilty as charged 😂). But I think my hair is not dry nor damaged, it's just thin and limp now, no more waves and volume. Will the Kerastase Densifique range be the best for me to buy or will you recommend something else? Ps. Hair strands found on the floor still have that “s” shape.
hey Adji thank you for your support! if you wondering why your hair have changed texture check out my 'hair growth cycle' film. When it comes to your hair care... I think Densifique rang would be perfect for you. It will plump up your hair and give it more density x
The Kerastase Bain Force resistance Architect shampoo. Yay I am pleased to say has no silicones, but it has alcohol denat which is very drying. :( I thought I had found my perfect shampoo.
When you go to rinse a conditioner or especially a mask (masque) I recommend you add handfuls of water to the hair and work the conditioner into an emulsion or foam until it is dripping then rinse throughly. This will help remove as much excess product as possible and leave the hair cleaner and smoother.

I just realized that most Kerastase products contain dimethicone. As it is said to be the cheapest silicone I am surprised that they are still considered so high-end. Got shocked that Olaplex No.8 has dimethicone on first place on the list....given how expensive it is.
im guessing that olaplex 8 is expensive because it contains olaplex's bond building ingredient, bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate. as well as a whole lot of oils, amino acids, and other emolients

The name of shampoo you too were not that familiar in India. its just an suggestion. but yaa i am going to look into my shampoo ingredient list again. one more question- does silicone affect in hairfall or not ? is pantene good for oily greasy thin hair, earlier my hairs use to be straight but now it has turn wavy, i want my old thick hair back :(
I've been using Pantene for a year, their moisture renewal shampoo and conditioner. it's probably the best I've used, and it's cheap and accessible. I'd defo recommend it to you and others! Silicones actually prevent hair fall, since it protects it from heat, UV rays, and infected water. As long as you follow up with a shampoo with sulfates, you will be absolutely fine!!

Cyclopentasiloxane IS a SILICONE, a non water soluble one at that. Please do more research. @@MikeDeCanter a scalp massager made out of silicone
Yay 😊I’m glad I just bought that Kérastase line because of your information I love how well you explain everything for us
Could you share your opinion on the WOW dream coat? It is a blow drying serum I was considering buying until I saw it is extremely silicone based.
check out my review on it x
Used to have very nice hairs. Lately struggle with built up , thus I m trying to educate myself . So glad I found your website . Very informative. Recently, new hair blow out lotion (Japan brand). After watching this video , i check that product -“ BANG” found dimethicone second in this list. Immediately Chuck in the bin
glad my channel could help
I'm currently thinking about getting the function of beauty shampoo and conditioner, it has an option to go silicone free or not - what do you think I should go for?
My hair is medium structure and wavey and can be frizzy if that helps haha
silicon will help to theme the frizz but i always try to go silicone free
@@MikeDeCanter thanks for replying to me :) I'll look into it!
Mike DeCanter Hair & Beauty very helpful! thank you 😊
The Kerastase Bain Force resistance Architect shampoo.
I shall try this at some stage :)
Wow I just found that tresemme has hairmask too, I never find it in my country...
interesting x
On frizz ease you forgot cyclopentasiloxane
Can you tell us what shampoo with the lowest PH possible I am having a hard time finding one with ph of 3.0 to 4.5.
90% of shampoos will be on the ph of 4.5 - 5.5/6. Conditioners are slightly lower . Davines conditioners have ph 3.0 +
THANK YOU. I WILL CHECK THAT OUT. STILL TRY TO MAKE A VIDEO ON THAT. I THINK IT WILL DO WELL.
Hello, wondering if you've tried Oribe, specifically the Gold Lust line? I hear good things but it's expensive. 🙃
Not yet! I will check it out :)
You new subscriber 👍 great work and great reviews ! Kudos to you for all the efforts . A question - which hair masks would you suggest for thin fine hair ? Saw ur vids n got the olaplex but as ny hair is dry n damaged too ither that being thin , I feel I need more hydration. However don't want to weigh my hair down with a mask too heavy for my thin n fine hair . Pls suggest 🙏
Hey try Lait Vital from Kerastase. Its nice and hydrating but its only very light in weight
@@MikeDeCanter thanks! I will try it out !
Hello mike

I never heard of botanical shampoo. is it source esentialle ? With Divelant you can use any conditioner depending on your hair needs x
@@MikeDeCanter for frizzy hair what do recommend?
@@MikeDeCanter it is called loreal botanical
You can fit right in the Caribbean you speak so much alike.i think you have Irish definitely in the Caribbean.basically cousins
These are chemicals. No beauty guru on RUclips has this knowledge, even the doctors don’t- it is only the cosmetic chemists that can tell you when an ingredient is a problem or not- you need the entire list of ingredients to make that assessment
heyy !! very deep and nice explaination. i would suggest to include brands like pantene and loreal paris, sunsilk too.
@@ggwweenn1250 heyy thanks for reply, I have also switched too Pantene... it's an good shampoo results are also satisfactory.
Really helpful.... thanks...!!
Glad it was helpful!
Im in india , i bought serie expert biotin inforcer and it HAS DIMETHICONE and it is 6th on the list ! And then it has amodemithicon too which is about 11th on the list !
Dam true !!! Pharmacy hair care CANNOT touch kerastase !!! One product from kerastase can beat 3 pharmacy stores and their cheap hair care !!
It's a ciclic silicone volatile
I hate the green range my hair goes really bad on that range
probably your hair doesnt need protein x
I love your southern Irish accent 💚
Thank you kindly x
Fantastic video
Thanks for the visit
I'm here for the second time. Found this video just as good as the first.
Can a build up of silicone lead to breakage?
no it wouldnt x
Of course you won't find any more supermarket shampoo in your house. Hair snob 🤣♥️ love your videos. Binge watching you at mo 🙈😊
hahahaha thank you so much :) x
Everyone needs to watch this
they do weapon
You said this, I think it was the second bottle, kerastase had no silicones but it does. It has polyquaternium it it. It's the new ,, silicone,, 😆.
as far as i know polyqaterium is a polyemer and its used a conditioning agent for hair that has been chemically damaged. I could be wrong it would be a ''silcone'' Thanks for the heads up x
@@MikeDeCanter , no you right, I just mean I see on so many shampoos that they can now write it's siliconfree. And people don't know and buy it. But this quaternium works the same as the normal silicones and as far as I know they are harder to get out of hair. 😄
I will defo look into it more!
Can yo u please do a review in the new shampoo and conditioner that is plastered all over the Internet “give me shampoo and conditioner “
which one?
@@MikeDeCanter it’s from a brand called give me cosmetics.😁
Will you please make a video on kerastase bain prevention range?
Might do x
Cyclopentasiloxane IS a SILICONE, a non water soluble one at that. Please do more research. Being a hair stylist does not mean you’re a silicone expert as you’ve clearly shown in your own silicone video. And some high end brands contain many more silicones than a drugstore brands. Sulfate shampoos don’t necessarily rinse out silicones, a CLARIFYING shampoo will. Ugh 😑
Okay girl, but there's no need to be a salty know-it-all... Ugh.
That it’s why I hate Pantene it’s full of silicones.
So are high end products
Terimakasih, saya sangat suka video anda🥰🥰
Terima kasih
Thanks for making this video. Silicone is a very cheap ingredient. That's why they are in all supermarket products.
You've more knowledge about hair care then a hair doctor. No doctor no stylist gave so much knowledge...
Great 😊
Thanks a ton
❤️❤️❤️
love you

I think the sulfate before the silicone in the store brand shampoo would cancel out most of it anyway...
