  • Most depictions of hip-hop history make it seem as if people supported and celebrated b-boys and b-girls when they first emerged. If anything, hip-hop is positioned against the white disco establishment in downtown Manhattan, not the communities in which it was cultivated.
    But is it true that hip-hop was accepted, even in its birthplace of the Bronx? Did those involved in the culture face any significant backlash or opposition in its early days?
