Loved it Mads! I feel that I have learnt so much in the last 19 minutes. There's so much here to consider and digest but I am certain some of these tips will creep in and start influencing my photography.
The difference between an image with instant wow, like and move on and something more subtle that you could live with printed out is well demonstrated with the waterfall images. I love both but the simpler one is much nicer to spend time exploring.
Mads does an excellent job of describing "simple" rules with enough details that they go beyond the usual "do this" and explains WHY we should do this. Very helpful.
Hi Mads...so glad I found your posts..I'm an armature photographer for 17 years now. I haven't watched any videos on composition until yours. I mostly do youth sports, high school seniors etc. BUT my wife an I are going to Italy this year and I especially want to capture images in Tuscany. So thanks for sharing your knowledge so I can produce much better images than I would have.
Meget enkelt fortalt, udtrykt og dermed nemmere at have med i sin hukommelse, når man står i en landskabssituation. Dejlig fortalt med forklaring, begrundelser og hvad du lægger vægt på. Dejligt at se dine flotte billeder. Tak
Mads great video. You have the ability to present and photograph complex scenes and make them not only beautiful but your explanations allow us to learn how to creat them.
Mads you have a wonderful way of explaining the complexities of composition. It makes it easier to understand what to look for when capturing a photo. Thank you for your wonderful content. Keep it coming!
cheers Mads - great stuff. off to Chile / Bolivia next month so perfectly timed. I've learnt loads in the last 12 months through your posts and those of others. Can't wait to have some 'me time' to try to apply all the information...
Great work Mads, I really loved that image of the photographers lined up against the peaks and trees in the mist. There was almost an equal amount of protrusions through the mist as there were photographers which gives the image a nice balance as well, well done mate.
Thank you. Your videos are very helpful and I enjoy your photos. I spent 18 days travelling around Iceland last year and it's nice to see some of the familiar places and the beautiful photographs.
Wonderful explanation! Thanks. I will rewatch the section on "breaking the horizon line" to help me remember that consideration. I am always aware of "where" it is, but need to think more often about the tension created at that intersection of various elements with the horizon line. Loved your examples which help to cement the concept in the mind visually!
Mads, I love you work, and your passion, both are inspiring. I have loved photography for a long time, on and off again. In the last few years, I have been trying to take my photos to the next level and then the next. I found you online when I switched my main camera from Canon to Sony A7R in the last few weeks. I watched a few of your videos on youtube and just recently bought your Landscape Composition 1 & 2. Now I am running through all your videos and reading your books. I really love your perspective and you have given me many other tools and information in these videos and your books. I can't wait to travel again, but in the meantime, working locally to hone my skill and try to come out of Covide with something tangible. I can already see the difference when I go out to shoot and work on the photos later. Thank you!
Hi Mads,, I know it’s been a while since you made this video… and your craft has probably evolved since, however I’ve only recently discovered a passion for photography and so came across your channel by chance only a couple of weeks ago… your videos so far (that I have watched) have been inspiring, thought provoking and educational, so thank you. I really appreciate that there is so much to learn and I’m absolutely enjoying doing so.
The best decision I’ve made this morning was watching this video. Most informative and highly appreciated. You’ve earned yourself a new follower and friend Mads. Looking forward to more of your inspiring Instagram landscapes. ❤️
Great advice as always Mads, and superb images of yours to demonstrate them. You have a very clear and concise way of explaining things which is very much appreciated.
More great information! Thank you very much. I hope to take better photos this summer when I visit Iceland, the Faroes and Lofoten with a urban side trip to Copenhagen.
This one of the very best videos I have seen on You Tube.. You provide great insight into composition which I appreciate. I just subscribed and am now a fan. Thanks for sharing.
brilliant mads thanks for teaching us your views and ideas, those small silly things that make a huge difference in which i now look at things in a completely different context
Excellent tips and great photos! You are quite talented in both clicking and processing. Thanks for a great video! Now, time to go through your previous uploads to watch more (I only just discovered your channel).
Again Mads, we expect gold and you deliver platinum. Love all that you do and I would go as far as saying you have influenced my landscape photography more than any other photographer
Great tutorial, thank you. I prefer your simple compositions, over the complex ones in your comparisons. So many people ‘Like’ on the over-saturated, over-HDR’d eye candy...those drive me nuts! 🙄
Great video Mads. Some awesome tips and amazing photos. I remember when I first started with photography in the film days and I shot with just a 28mm and 50mm prime lens. Its seems more complex these days with all the bells and whistles on cameras and the myriad lens that are available. I love simplicity not just in images but also in the gear and regularly just take a single camera and lens; either a prime or standard zoom. In my opinion it leaves my mind uncluttered so I can focus on the landscape and nature and importantly the moment. Thank you for sharing. It is always a pleasure to watch your videos.
Great advice Mads and was great seeing you images from previous videos as it is a great reminder as to how great a photographer you are and how you arrive at your compositions
Hi Again Mads, Another great video coupled with some more great tips, gives me lots of things to think about and remind myself of these guidelines, many thanks Ian
Excellent video Mads. So much makes more sense now, especially ditching the rule of third, even more so after watching the 10 myths video, now that was truely amazing. Sometimes you just have to compose to what pleases your eye, and all your subjects in this video add to that composition. If you ever have the time or inclination to do another tips video, it will be a must watch for everybody. AWESOME WORK!!!📷👍📷👍🏞
Your work is amazing Mads. Most so amazing is that you are keen to share that knowledge with the world. I just stumbled upon your channel and subbed right away. Thanks for sharing
Very thorough explanation on the foundation of landscape composition. I think a lot of time people follow the composition "rules" because they were told to and without understanding why which limits their ability on when to break the rules and how to get the most out of a scene. Knowing when to shoot telephoto vs wide and how the lens can impact the scene can be vital. I think this guide will really help photographers that are looking to get into the medium of landscape photography. PS: I look forward to seeing some in-depth Photoshop tutorials down the road. :)
Your videos are amazing and addictive. So calm & relatable, relaxing & educational. Your work is inspiring & I congratulate you on your efforts! Keep it up :)
Absolutely brilliant, Mads! Your background in teaching really shows here because you did such a good job explaining these topics with excellent examples. I’ve seen this same stuff explained so poorly by others, so while the ideas aren’t new, the clarity of the presentation is refreshing. My favorite part: “The rule of thirds... it’s a crap tool.” LOL 😂 These instructional videos where you discuss your pictures and the intent behind them are a great compliment to your vlog style content. Hope you’re enjoying Iceland 🇮🇸! Great stuff as usual.
Thanks a lot, Jon! I'm very happy to hear that I explain it good. I was a bit uncertain about this one as the tips are a bit more "vague" than the first video :)
I love all your videos, Mads, and although this is different from your usual ones, i found it to be one of your very best. The section on the broken horizon was most informative and I thank you for sharing all your expertise. One question please, do you have to think about things like the broken horizons or does everything just come naturally to you?
once again, informative and excellent presentation.thanks very much mads.really enjoy your landscape skills.have you done many video tutorials of your editing of these shots?i would love to see the breakdown of your editing from the raw file to the finished image.really impressed with your editing, along with your photography skills.
Hi Mads, great video and really good tips, well explained and presented. For your consideration on a future video on tips; how to produce a consistent colour signature on your photos. This is something that I really struggle. Yet, when looking at your work, I find this tonal range signature in the majority of your work, a mix of warm, soft and dark colours. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Loved it Mads! I feel that I have learnt so much in the last 19 minutes. There's so much here to consider and digest but I am certain some of these tips will creep in and start influencing my photography.
Thank you very much Chris! I'm happy you feel you got something from it 😊👍
For me, nobody else can communicate/convey composition as brilliantly and ingeniously as you. Your Tutorials are extremely helpful! THANKS A LOT!
Thank you very much for such kind words! 😁
The difference between an image with instant wow, like and move on and something more subtle that you could live with printed out is well demonstrated with the waterfall images. I love both but the simpler one is much nicer to spend time exploring.
Yes, I agree with that. It's one of my personal favorites :)
I’ve really enjoyed & learnt from both your composition videos. Anyone who’s watched this & hasn’t seen the first one needs to watch it.
Thank you very much Tim, yeah I think the first one is very important too :)
Thank you for not only showing, but also for explaining the logic behind your photos.
You are very welcome Miguel! :)
Thanks a lot. What makes it very easy to follow your explanations is, that you show examples.
Wonderful mini class on some of the major compositional aspects used landscape photography.
Meget enkelt fortalt, udtrykt og dermed nemmere at have med i sin hukommelse, når man står i en landskabssituation. Dejlig fortalt med forklaring, begrundelser og hvad du lægger vægt på. Dejligt at se dine flotte billeder. Tak
Thank you so much for keeping learning simple and to the point with visuals. God bless you.
Maybe the most useful photography video I’ve watched on RUclips.
Mads great video. You have the ability to present and photograph complex scenes and make them not only beautiful but your explanations allow us to learn how to creat them.
Thank you, Richard. Happy to hear that :)
Mads you have a wonderful way of explaining the complexities of composition. It makes it easier to understand what to look for when capturing a photo. Thank you for your wonderful content. Keep it coming!
Thanks a lot Kathy! I'm very happy you like my explanations! :)
Another great video packed with loads of helpful information. You should show both these videos in your workshops, very informative.
Thanks a lot Richard! Yeah that's a good idea :)
The best advice on composition I have seen on the internet. Thanks Mads.
Thank you very much, Steve! Have you seen my other composition videos?
cheers Mads - great stuff. off to Chile / Bolivia next month so perfectly timed. I've learnt loads in the last 12 months through your posts and those of others. Can't wait to have some 'me time' to try to apply all the information...
I'm very happy to hear that! Good luck on your trip :)
Great great tips. It gives weight and reasons that explains why some of my photos are great but I cannot explain why I think they are.
Great work Mads, I really loved that image of the photographers lined up against the peaks and trees in the mist. There was almost an equal amount of protrusions through the mist as there were photographers which gives the image a nice balance as well, well done mate.
Thank you very much, Darren! Yeah I think it was the best image I got that morning :)
Thank you. Your videos are very helpful and I enjoy your photos. I spent 18 days travelling around Iceland last year and it's nice to see some of the familiar places and the beautiful photographs.
You're very welcome! :)
Love the last pic and the lighthouse with ocean horizon. Amazing!
Thank you very much Dylan :)
Great video Mads! I love how you describe your work. Its not about the gear but about the art of photography. Cheers!
Thanks a lot! Yeah, it took a bit of time to figure it out ;)
thanx so much... just found your vids.. am binge watching them... learning so much :)
You're very welcome and happy you like them! :)
Thanks a lot, Deborah! I'm happy you learned something new :)

You are very welcome and welcome aboard! I have new "tips" video coming tomorrow :)
A good educational video. I need to try something like this
Thank you very much, Paul :)
Another great explanation of some basics for landscapes i am going to use to make mine better!
Great advice as always Mads, and superb images of yours to demonstrate them. You have a very clear and concise way of explaining things which is very much appreciated.
Thank you very much David! I'm happy to hear that as I think my tips here were a bit more "vague" than the last video ;)
Perfect. KISS is so important. Your last sequence will that sky is not as good as the previous two shots. Great instruction video, thanks.
Thanks Tom and yes, I agree ;)
Excellent video and tips. The before/after of the black church was striking - loved it!
Thank you very much LArry :)
More great information! Thank you very much. I hope to take better photos this summer when I visit Iceland, the Faroes and Lofoten with a urban side trip to Copenhagen.
Thanks! I love your explanations - clear, concise, and still deep.

This one of the very best videos I have seen on You Tube.. You provide great insight into composition which I appreciate. I just subscribed and am now a fan. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the tips, always a joy to listen to you.
I look forward to putting these tips into practice in the Lake District this weekend ! Thank you !!
You are very welcome Matt :)

Thanks a lot John! Yeah I like to go simple too, but I'd be very hesitant to sacrifice versatility :)

break the horizon - interesting! I will keep this in my mind when I am out in the field!!! Thanks Mads.
You're welcome Stephen. Obviously it has to make sense to break it ;)
This was great, I love the Rule of thirds with the photographers and the mountains... it just tells a true story. Keep it up Mads
Thank you very much, John! :)

Very good info and instruction Mads, well done
Thank you very much, Richard! :)
Super educational video! Thank you for sharing!
You are very welcome :)
Fantastic video! Thank you 🙏🏻
Thanks! And you're very welcome, Tony :)
Very well presented take on 'the rules' and why they should be broken. Cheers!
Yeah, I don't really like calling them rules. They're more like tools, which you use to build your house ;)
I love all your videos, Mads, and although this is different from your usual ones, i found it to be one of your very best. The section on the broken horizon was most informative and I thank you for sharing all your expertise. One question please, do you have to think about things like the broken horizons or does everything just come naturally to you?
Thanks Tony, happy to hear that. I think it's a mix. Making these videos helps me to vocalize it.
once again, informative and excellent presentation.thanks very much mads.really enjoy your landscape skills.have you done many video tutorials of your editing of these shots?i would love to see the breakdown of your editing from the raw file to the finished image.really impressed with your editing, along with your photography skills.
Hi, nope I have only done two. The Eibsee and Geroldsee videos :)
Great structured information and images.
Thanks a lot Michael! Much appreciated :)
Very helpful tips, thank you very much!
You are very welcome! :)
New subscriber here! Thanks for all the tips. I have been binge watching your videos this whole week 😀
Very instructive video as usual
Thank you very much, Hubert :)
Very valuable - many thanks
You're welcome Ian :)
Thanks a lot. I'll consider that for sure :)
yet another excellent Video Mads. Thank you for sharing. I really enjoy your thought processes. :-)
Thanks a lot Jon! :)
