Whats soo fucked up about this film is after decades of watching Coen brother's movies, now all of a sudden we realize Joel was carrying 90% of the load. Amazing.
Well if his movie is full of wokeness of course it will bomb. I just finished watching Godzilla Minus One why can Hollywerid learn from the Japanese just make an entertaining movie.
@mosthated8848Godzilla minus one is not without its faults. I found it predictable at times and there’s no way that woman survived a Godzilla blast like that. Give me a break
Even the trailer for this looked awful. One thing that stood out to me is that they didn't even advertise "By Ethan Coen." They said "By one of the Coen Brothers." I was like "Why take the extra effort to clarify that it isn't both?"
I think that was more to get the Coen Brothers brand in there even though it was only one of them. Don’t forget, Etan Coen made Garfield, so this is a better clarification, especially if you’re Bill Murray
Saw it yesterday afternoon....alone. I was the only one in the theater and I was glad because it made the viewing experience better because I could yell out wtf and laugh anytime at this horrible movie. I think my favorite scenes only involved the 2 bad guys.
This movie was god awful. Absolutely insulting even think you should have to pay a nickel to see this crap. I got up and left after 20 minutes. Enough of all this crap complete garbage!
I appreciated the kooky, frivolous style of this one. It’s a slight work, and certainly no masterpiece, but fun enough. Kinda like Coens-lite, or a cover band version of their greatest hits
I do need to clarify that if I didn’t have regal unlimited, I wouldn’t have seen this movie and a bunch more. That being said, I like this movie. The trailer was misleading tho. Short movie, comedic, and I did like the two leads. The transitions were good, I actually enjoyed them, reminded me of that 70’s show mix with Scott pilgrim. Adam and I are almost always on the same page but disagree on this one. Nice review.
You're spot on with this. It also seemed like Ethan was just going with the times..and dammit, that makes me mad...I dont wanna keep losing my favorites to the times
They made a couple of good movies early on, and are still riding that success into more projects for the rest of their lives🤦🏻♂️ I’m sure they’ll keep making more duds like this
This film, when watched with Joel's Macbeth, makes you realize that together they can keep each other in check...now we know! United they stand, divided they stink
Man, the main chick was so annoying. She kept on going on soliloquies every single scene, talking a mile a minute and using the weirdest sayings ever. This is the kinda stuff you get used to after a while, but the problem is she's the only character who talks like this throughout the entire film.
I haven't seen enough Coen movies to know if its the worst one. But I'll say that it is definitely better than Madame Web for me. In fact, overall I would say this is a decent movie. Not great or anything, but I did laugh and was content with it
I genuinely could not tell if they were doing a form of meta commentary or not because of the ridiculous lesbian sexual scenes. When the "coach" said to, "Rotate", I honestly wondered if certain Coen was emotionally hurt by a lesbian in irl.
Coen's have been treading water with hit and miss stuff since the turn of the century, the quirky becoming jerky these days. DAD may well have drowned them.
It was just a mess, plus someone was in there that definitely wasn’t supposed to be I don’t think they knew the movie they were in for, I couldn’t have said it better myself, not a film for kids, kinda boring and not cohesive for everyone else jumps around a lot, the leads were trying but it just was pretty bad, Agree with all your points, Thought it might be raunchy fun but wasn’t even fun or interesting.
I just watched this movie and it was unwatchable. I find both the actresses hot and was expecting a sexy movie. It's not sexy at all. It's raunchy in the worst way, it's unfunny, it's extremely violent. But the violence is in the first scene against a person you don't know so you don't care. Just terrible.
@jessicaknopp5495 I wouldn't say I'm a casual but I don't normally go out my way to see indie/foreign films especially when they aren't shown in a cinema anywhere close by let's not lie to ourselves the majority of normal cinema goers probably have never heard of these so I wouldn't say they're lighting up the box office.
Just watched it last night.... This feels like a Coen cousin movie. Very "college film" feel to it, the foundation of an idea is there but not fully developed and realized. Miss Qualley went "Full R-tard" with her role, her character should have been a little more grounded to make it believable. No sense of Danger. We almost walked out, but wanted to give the movie the benefit..... I am sorry we did.
The Coen Brothers are my all time favorite filmmakers, absolute legends in the industry, with a handful of their movies being my all time favorite films. Big Lebowski, Barton Fink, Fargo, Raising Arizona, O Brother Where Art Thou, and No Country fo Old Men are my absolute favorites, and I have watched them 20-30 times a piece in my life easily. I had a strong feeling that this was going to be bad after watching the trailer, and it's massively disappointing to see the downfall of a once incredible director. He said he wants to make a "Lesbian Trilogy," if this is a success, so I hope it bombs so hard. It's sucks so much that the Coens are done making movies together, and apparently are done making good movies as well. It's definitely an end of an era for cinema, and it's heartbreaking. RIP Coen Bros. 😢
Rumour has it they’re getting back together. As it happens I quite liked this one. I thought the plot was very good and wasn’t too dissimilar in style to some of their later stuff like Hail, Caesar.
It was so boring and way too sexualized. I made the mistake of taking my dad to this movie, and I was so embarrassed. I only went and watched it because I love Pedro Pascal, and he died in the first two minutes. BTW there were less than 10 people in the theatre, including me and my dad 😂
Margaret qualleys acting was so bad I knew she was nepo. I just thought she was Steve buscemis daughter bc she looks kinda like him. It was the worst acting I have ever seen in my entire life.
A 1hour 16 minute lesbian make-out movie with a thread bare plot. I was totally disappointed and then the movie was over. What was Ethan thinking? I bet his partner had a big hand in making this turkey.
Genuinely one of the worse movies I’ve ever seen. And all the reviews I’ve seen have been sheep saying it’s hilarious. So glad we have a voice of reason in the critic space
Great review, but I was kinda hoping for a Chris Stuckman parody review. "First and formost I have to say the cast and crew did a fine job, the wonderful director and editor were obviously hamstring by a meddling studio"
Thing is, Stuckman ain’t wrong; a lot of the time big budget films are ground into dust by executives because they have a lot of money riding on that shit and want total control. The problem is, as a critic you can’t exactly review a production; so why doesn’t he just criticise the films while still making the point this was likely all induced by a tyrannical, creatively-cauterised studio system that is too scared to let it’s creatives be actually creative?
Maybe it’s because I’m a big Coen brothers fan but, although it’s very light and very silly I did enjoy it for the most part. I thought the main two characters were pretty likeable and I wanted to be on their side. And yeah, comedy is subjective but I thought the dialogues were pretty funny for the most part. Some of the elements in the plot were, as I said, very silly and very vulgar and it’s not like I loved those elements but I didn’t hate them, cause it fitted with Margaret Qualley’s character. It’s not a great movie, but it is decent as a light comedy. Also, there is a bit of commentary. Kind of broad, but there is a clear amount of elements related to the “conservative” point of view, so to speak.
They're close to 70 and have only made movies together for 40yrs, should be self-explanatory. Eventually band members wanna see what they can do solo or without the other members.
My wife and I went to see this last night and we both hated it! Such a horrible film , with gratuitous lesbian sex scenes and puerile humour that might appeal to teenage boys but nothing for us in it. Really could could not believe how bad this film was and I'd be prepared to give most films a chance but 20 minutes in and I couldn't wait for it to finish.
I saw it on Saturday. My friends and I loved it. I remember in one of your videos, you spoke about how there aren't any of those old-school-style raunchy comedies anymore. So, I'm surprised you didn't like it, but I see your point about the bizarre style choices and transitions. And I initially had that reaction, like "wtf is this?" But as the movie continued, I let it go and just enjoyed it for how goofy and random that stuff was
I think if you don't take it too seriously or don't expect a serious film just because it's a Coen brother, you'll probably enjoy it. Or you won't, IDK, everyone has different tastes@patricklarsen182
I thought the movie was pretty good, but I definitely understand if you walked away feeling that it was lackluster. It had all of the makings of a John Waters film and it had a pretty decent plot and set up. It could definitely be revised and made for a really good Quentin Tarantino film either. But yeah, I wish that there could’ve been more to the chase and this film, it was really Anti-climatic in some areas. But I did enjoy the film in terms of just seeing a film feature two lesbian characters, exploring their relationship together and getting closer. And that’s something that you don’t see a lot. So any film that features lesbians as the main character gets at least a B+ for me
Sadly I watched this last because of Ethan Coen's name. It is the worst film I've ever seen. I have never had a voice grate on me so bad as the character by Margaret Qualley. Her voice and fake accent actually angered me. And what was with that endless, no dialog, psychedelic scene? This should have been edited to a sixty minute film. Then it would have been the worst sixty minute film in recent history.
One of the very few films that I wondered if it was possible to give a 0/10 to. It's not a 1/10. It's not a 0.1/10. It's way worst than that. I didn't make it 10 minutes. Zero substance or meaning.
The Cohen Brothers are hit and miss anyway. They make a good movie once every ten years. I can't remember the last time I saw a decent movie from the two.
@jessicaknopp5495 Well it's my opinion you don't have to like it. Blood Simple, Millers Crossing, Fargo, No Country FOM, and True Grit are their best. The rest are are mostly forgettable to lousy.
It was cringe and ridiculous, but I weirdly had a good time overall. Had no idea about the film going in, and went in accompanied by my 60 year old conservative father 😆
Miserable to sit though? This movie was quirky in the vein of raising Arizona and big Lebowski. The motion graphics trippy scenes were distracting yes, but performances from the Margaret Qualley, beanie feldstein, and Geraldine vishwanathan were great. If a raunchy sex comedy featuring lesbians is not your thing that’s ok. But watching madam web again instead of an original story is just a stretch too far in my opinion.
@AdamDoesMoviesIt's one of their weaker comedies, but Tom Hanks is incredible in it, and there are a handful of good laughs. I would honestly give it a chance to wipe the bad taste of Drive Away Dolls out of your mouth.
Id like to know who the target audience for this was well cause it sure as hell wasn't for the lesbians. Pretty sure not a single lesbian was involved in the writing of this film.
I thought ppl were walking out of the movie cause of homophobia, but after watching it was like, this movie is just bad. As a queer person i wanted a funny lesbian comedy so bad. It was nothing of the sort...
Madame web was more enjoyable than this. Granted madame web was hilarious on accident but drive away dolls is a comedy that isn't funny or entertaining.
Congrats. Also thought this movie was ass. Watched it after The Substance to see some more Margaret Qualley acting prowess. I wish I had not lol. What a waste of talent.
I don't think I've enjoyed a Coen Bros movie since "No Country for Old Men." Their early career was hit-or-miss, but they really nose-dived during the past few decades.
A Serious Man and Inside Llewyn Davis are two of the best American films of this century. And I love Hail, Caesar, but it is the type of quirky comedy that turns some people off.
Comparing this movie to Madame Web seems a bit harsh. I enjoyed my brief time with it, but my biggest complaint would be that it’s a bit derivative of better Coen Brother movies. We even had discount Steve Buscemi playing Buscemi’s part from Fargo
@Pleasebeserious-25 The original post says nothing. Telling me I didn't understand the film and ending with a smug "lmao' is absolutely pointless. If they want to expand on what I actually didn't understand, I would love to hear it. Instead, the comment is vague and insulting so I gave a equally pithy reply. I love talking movies and hearing other opinions. Simply stating that I fundamentally don't understand something with no backing is equal to saying nothing at all.
Well, it made about $3.25 in the theaters. That’s 3 dollars and 25 cents.
Thats alot of money
Yeah. It's 3 dollars and 25 cents AMERICAN.
@Boris-Animal-9-11
This is the only movie review channel I trust. 😅
Whats soo fucked up about this film is after decades of watching Coen brother's movies, now all of a sudden we realize Joel was carrying 90% of the load. Amazing.
Wooooooooow I saw about 2 seconds of the trailer and thought it looked like trash. Had no idea it was Ethan Coen 😵 Maybe they should stick together
Joel is definitely the genius 😂 what an embarrassment.
"If you've got nothing nice to say, don't say shit." -Chris Stuckmann
...probably. Maybe not.
He's terrified his movie will be torn to shreds, that's all 😂😂
Well if his movie is full of wokeness of course it will bomb. I just finished watching Godzilla Minus One why can Hollywerid learn from the Japanese just make an entertaining movie.
@mosthated8848Godzilla minus one is not without its faults. I found it predictable at times and there’s no way that woman survived a Godzilla blast like that. Give me a break
I cherish the Cohen brothers' films. This was a passion project for Ethan. Bummer it wasn't better. Thanks for the review!
I was getting Repo Man vibes from the trailer but figured it would be crap. FYI Repo Man might be a good nostalgic film for you to review Adam.
This looks like a good double feature with Kevin Smith's Yoga Hosers...
I felt lied to by the trailer and kept forgetting which decade it was. Thought 90's then the 70s.
Saw it yesterday afternoon....alone. I was the only one in the theater and I was glad because it made the viewing experience better because I could yell out wtf and laugh anytime at this horrible movie. I think my favorite scenes only involved the 2 bad guys.
Glad I’m not the only one that hated it. I almost walked out of the theater.
The ONLY reason I didn’t leave was because I was way too high
I walked out at around the fifth time they showed Miley Cyrus with zero explanation
Mannnn I “was” looking forward to seeing this. Thank you for saving my time! Mucho appreciated Adam!
I saw other reviews but was waiting it out till yours. But if you don’t like it I definitely won’t either
Ignore him. It’s good
@KrazyJoe1701it’s hilarious thought it was a good watch
He saved my time by not seeing Madam Web!
Reasons why there was little to no advertisement for it im sure.
I could have sworn it was spelled "Cohen". Must be that Mandela effect 🤔
I did too!
Definitely Mandela
That's the guy who wrote Garfield. Bill Murray also had that confusion😂
The first 10 minutes of this movie is gross. It actually made me push away a box of Crunch bits 🤮🤮🤮
You're spot on with this. It also seemed like Ethan was just going with the times..and dammit, that makes me mad...I dont wanna keep losing my favorites to the times
Wanna watch and action, comedy, road trip movie watch Dead Hooker in a Trunk by The Soska Sisters 😂
Please do the scale 🙏🏼🙏🏼
They made a couple of good movies early on, and are still riding that success into more projects for the rest of their lives🤦🏻♂️ I’m sure they’ll keep making more duds like this
3:05 😂woop woop
I think now we know who is the best of the brothers
This film, when watched with Joel's Macbeth, makes you realize that together they can keep each other in check...now we know! United they stand, divided they stink
Man, the main chick was so annoying. She kept on going on soliloquies every single scene, talking a mile a minute and using the weirdest sayings ever. This is the kinda stuff you get used to after a while, but the problem is she's the only character who talks like this throughout the entire film.

I gather you haven’t seen The Ladykillers then? That was a lot worse than this.
I genuinely could not tell if they were doing a form of meta commentary or not because of the ridiculous lesbian sexual scenes. When the "coach" said to, "Rotate", I honestly wondered if certain Coen was emotionally hurt by a lesbian in irl.
I remember Jay from Bloodbath and Beyond showed me this channel. So glad! Hilarious yet accurate.
Jay is great!
He gave us the greatest movie of all time The Big Lebowski, so he can do no wrong lol
I thought Hail! Caesar was awful, and this one didn't look much better. Oh well. They've got at least 6 or 7 classics that I'll love forever.
Yes, hail Caesar was awful. I couldn’t even finish the damn thing!
THEY, that is another story.
Biblically accurate Pedro Pascal
I laughed at the part with ben Affleck at the end
Coen's have been treading water with hit and miss stuff since the turn of the century, the quirky becoming jerky these days. DAD may well have drowned them.
And here I thought you don't review bad movies anymore. Oh, it's you Adam. Then ok. 😁😜😉
Chris created a riot across RUclips
@patricklarsen182 He certainly did.
It was just a mess, plus someone was in there that definitely wasn’t supposed to be I don’t think they knew the movie they were in for, I couldn’t have said it better myself, not a film for kids, kinda boring and not cohesive for everyone else jumps
around a lot, the leads were trying but it just was pretty bad, Agree with all your points, Thought it might be raunchy fun but wasn’t even fun or interesting.

It's fair to say that Joel was the genius in their whole filmography...
One is these chicks was in Blockers.
I was going to see this until I saw the actor from the unaired Wonder Woman pilot was in it.
Just walk in 2 minutes after the movie starts and you’ll be fine.
This year hasn't started that great I miss going to the cinema just waiting on a film that's worth going for.
Saw Perfect Days Saturday night and Taste of Things last week. Both fantastic experiences. The cinema is doing just fine.

Looks terrible
Im glad pedro is barely in it if it sucks because i only want him in good stuff. nobody say bad things about pedro 😆
Just saw it in the cinema and loved it.
I would write a script instead of just riffing dude. Your ideas arent super clear compared to other more organized review channels.
It was so boring and way too sexualized. I made the mistake of taking my dad to this movie, and I was so embarrassed. I only went and watched it because I love Pedro Pascal, and he died in the first two minutes. BTW there were less than 10 people in the theatre, including me and my dad 😂
There were 5 in mine (which included my friend and myself)
Margaret qualleys acting was so bad I knew she was nepo. I just thought she was Steve buscemis daughter bc she looks kinda like him. It was the worst acting I have ever seen in my entire life.
A 1hour 16 minute lesbian make-out movie with a thread bare plot. I was totally disappointed and then the movie was over. What was Ethan thinking? I bet his partner had a big hand in making this turkey.
I’m still watching this, Regardless of the Thumbnail. Sucks “Adam” didn’t like it much though.
Just got done watching it. Adam was right.
Please report back
@AdamDoesMoviesYou were Correct. This movie was a waste of Time.
Genuinely one of the worse movies I’ve ever seen. And all the reviews I’ve seen have been sheep saying it’s hilarious. So glad we have a voice of reason in the critic space
@Pleasebeserious-25 shut up nerd
@Pleasebeserious-25 don’t care lil guy
@Pleasebeserious-25 dont bother arguing with idiots, waste of time
@Pleasebeserious-25 go watch your shitty movie and shut up
I couldn't believe how bad it is.
Just watched this
Great review, but I was kinda hoping for a Chris Stuckman parody review.
I disagree there's no soundtrack...they want the audience to know BLUE BAYOU is a lesbian song.
Stunning and brave. That's what this movie is...
Man, your reviews are great! Thx for the excellent content
Horrible movie!!!!!
Why don’t Joel and Ethan do films together anymore?

Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks! I agree with you about how the trailer leaned waaaayyy too heavy on Pedro and Matt Damon@AdamDoesMovies
I’ll probably see it
I think if you don't take it too seriously or don't expect a serious film just because it's a Coen brother, you'll probably enjoy it. Or you won't, IDK, everyone has different tastes@patricklarsen182
This movie was definitely a waste of time for me. And is worse than Madame Web.
I thought the movie was pretty good, but I definitely understand if you walked away feeling that it was lackluster. It had all of the makings of a John Waters film and it had a pretty decent plot and set up. It could definitely be revised and made for a really good Quentin Tarantino film either. Dude, you can tell by the trailers this was some hot garbage.
Sadly I watched this last because of Ethan Coen's name. It is the worst film I've ever seen. I have never had a voice grate on me so bad as the character by Margaret Qualley. This is a poor opinion.
@jessicaknopp5495 Well it's my opinion you don't have to like it. Blood Simple, Millers Crossing, Fargo, No Country FOM, and True Grit are their best. The rest are are mostly forgettable to lousy.
Buster scrugges was good
@88detourdid you REALLY not get that this was a solo project of Ethan COEN?😮
I’ve never been a big fan of the Coens movies, find most of them overrated.
Dont watch and drive away from the cinema
Nah the ladykillers
Democrats!
Sounds boring and lame....entertaining review good job lol
It’s good weird but kinda liked it!
It was cringe and ridiculous, but I weirdly had a good time overall. Had no idea about the film going in, and went in accompanied by my 60 year old conservative father 😆
Another guy reviewing. Ask your mother! She would say: ...!
Miserable to sit though? This movie was quirky in the vein of raising Arizona and big Lebowski. I skipped that one. Looked awful
@AdamDoesMovies any favorite coen movie?
In terms of comedy: I still quote Raising Arizona
@AdamDoesMoviesIt's one of their weaker comedies, but Tom Hanks is incredible in it, and there are a handful of good laughs. I would honestly give it a chance to wipe the bad taste of Drive Away Dolls out of your mouth.
I never finished that one. It was kind of boring to me.
Madame Web was at least entertaining compared to this.
I loved this film! I love the chemistry Margaret and Geraldine have.
Id like to know who the target audience for this was well cause it sure as hell wasn't for the lesbians. Pretty sure not a single lesbian was involved in the writing of this film.
Sounds pretty gay..like every movie now...ugh..
A movie about lesbians? Nah
I thought ppl were walking out of the movie cause of homophobia, but after watching it was like, this movie is just bad. As a queer person i wanted a funny lesbian comedy so bad. It was nothing of the sort...
Nah I loved this movie man. ❤
Madame web was more enjoyable than this. Granted madame web was hilarious on accident but drive away dolls is a comedy that isn't funny or entertaining.
No this isn't bad
This film doesn't exist. It wasn't ever made. As such I'm baffled as to how you're reviewing something that doesn't exist.
I agree it's a really bad movie. Very very crude. Idk if they were being PC for the lesbian community, but they did them no favors at all.
So the other brother is the talent???🤔🤨
Yes, see Joel’s film The Tragedy of McBeth.
Together they form the dream team appearantly
Adam is so angry about this movie because he's afaid of how lesbians are taking women away from him. And he's right.
I've been happily married for almost 20 years. Lesbians are great. This movie sucked.
Congrats. Also thought this movie was ass. Watched it after The Substance to see some more Margaret Qualley acting prowess. I wish I had not lol. What a waste of talent.
You should watch the movie.
My wife and I loved it. This movie is a fucking hoot.
Did you and your wife watch it sober or are you cousins because i cant see how anyone else could enjoy it
@salagayikes4016 your limited imagination is probably only the beginning of your problems.
@JosephBowmanAVL i dont know man my imaginations pretty good i can imagine nearly endless things better than watching this crap again
have u ever had fun
i dont think i've ever seen someone so fundamentally misunderstand a movie lmao
I don't think I've ever read a more useless comment.
Simply stating that I fundamentally don't understand something with no backing is equal to saying nothing at all.
seems like everyone "midunderstood" because it had negative reviews on every website💀
Bad take. This movie was really good
This movie was less fun than a homemade circumcision.
It was thr worst movie I've seen this year, and I saw Madame Web
