I just picked up a second hand washing machine that I intended to use. Mould on the door seal of course. I mixed up soda crystals and bleach to toothpaste consistency. Applied liberally, left it for 15 mins. Cleaned off with sponge, done it again and the seal was like new. Not a single spore of black mould. Cheap as chips, and the whole process was less than an hour but mainly waiting, no scrubbing what so ever!
Closed the door, eh? When I bought mine, 8 years ago, the appliance man told me never leave it closed. Leave the dispenser open, as well. My hero! I wrapped a roll of paper towels with a red bandana, my laundry room accent color, and gently wedge it under to keep the door open just a bit. It’s as clean as when I bought it.
Well, you had a great salesman! Leaving both dispenser and door open are priceless tidbits that everyone should know about to help maintain a clean machine. 😊
Wow, we’ve had our Whirlpool front loader for 8 yrs now and from time to time I have wiped inside that seal. We’ve always left our washers open as far as I can remember as a child. Never had a smell or mold problem whatsoever either on top or front loaders. It definitely makes 100% difference to get into the habit of just leaving the door open 100% of the time when not in use.
I leave the draw slightly open as well to prevent mould growing in the draw compartment. When we used to leave it closed, we had a problem with mould growing in the top of the draw compartment blocking the water jets and had to regularly clean it with a steamer. As well as leaving the door open, I also use a washing powder that contains oxygen bleach, which is a highly effective microbiocide. When I stripped my machine down to change the bearings after 10 years use, I didn't find any mould or bacterial grime on the inside, it was nice and clean and smell free. The only issue was a few areas with limescale deposits from not descaling it for well over a year. I suspect the same measures also helped to prevent the aluminium alloy spider in my machine from corroding.

Never ever had this problem but a lot of my friends have it. Just clean it regularly, empty cycle for 90 degrees from time to time, and leaving door open after each using is enough to avoid this problem. Also rinsing drawer is enough to avoid mould there.
I have self cleaning option with my front loader, I always do dark clothes first then white clothes with bleach and I’ve never had mold. It helps if you live in the desert Southwest where the humidity is never over 15% except maybe a few weeks in August, always keep the door a few inches open

Thanks for the video! I moved in 3 months ago and had mold like you demonstrated and I tried bleach soaked into paper towels which did nothing but the gel helped a ton!
We have a really bad mold problem. Replaced the gasket, a few months later got moldy again. Followed all the advice, kept door open, wiped up loose water etc. etc....
@@linandy1Just get a top load washer and leave the door open all the time. Front load washer has seals that trap wet air. So mold will come back if the front load washer is placed in basement or anywhere humidity level is high. Even if you kill the mold with chemical, some of dead mold is likely to stay. The only way to get rid of mold is chemically and physically removing it. Then let the dry air flows around.
I just got the product that worked for you. My mold is a lot worse though we have the exact same washer. I might have three times more mold than you. Let’s hope this product works on that much mold
Ok cool! Just continue with multiple applications until it's gone. Leaving the door open has been a lifesaver. Haven't seen anymore come back since then.
Very, very helpful. I just saw some mold building up, so I am gonna try this step. But, maybe, mine's not as bad as yours, so I might just try the tablet first.
Great video. Besides leaving the washer door open so the washer dries out, you should also throw a dry bath towel in washer to help absorb some of the excess water in washer drum.
I always leave the door open instead of closing it tightly when the washer is not in use, I've never had mold in my washer. Regular cleaning and running it on the "clean washer" cycle once a month keeps it clean, I also quit using liquid fabric softener because it gums up the working parts.
You sure we have to give up on liquid soaps? Because as I've read somewhere liquid detergents are best for cloths in front loads being soft on cloths! Even our LG washer manual suggested not to use liquid detergent. I've a couple of bottles of liquid detergents- about 2 litres now. I'll buy powder ones. But when I used powders, the smell was really strong from washer though. Very confusing. I've heard extra detergent (powder) leaves more mould.
Same here. Clorox didn't help at all, can't wait to try. Mine is beyond disgusting. It has sooo much mold and mildew. So will have to apply like 10 times.
I’ve been having good luck with a 75/25 mix of 99% isopropyl and distilled water for superficial mold. I have some Zep, so I’ll try it, but then I think I’ll get the residue off with my mix.
Thank you for this video! Will order this gel as have tried so many things. Always leave door open but still have mold build up. Most frustrating thing about front loaders. I would buy front loader again though. Hope this works!
I leave the door open after washing. I also have a ceiling fan in my laundry room and I pull out the dispenser drawer and let that dry. It doesn’t take long for either to dry out.
well you're supposed to ALWAYS let the door open on the front loading machines, this is why I love and always buy LG appliances because they have a magnet on the door opening to keep the door open when you don't use it so it'll bring air in and not build the mold and mildew up.
My front load washer has a magnetic device to keep door open but even that's closed too much and still smells the next day so i just keep the door wide open along with the detergent compartment after every load and just everyday in general. Even after a few days or even a week without doing laundry, you'd think it's dry enough to close the door but nope! It still smells if you close the washer door at anytime so mine stays open all the time when not in use.
Great video! Thanks for posting. Never heard of Sugelary till now. The better mold cleaner products have higher concentrations of sodium hypochlorite. Another fantastic mold cleaner/killer is RMR 86 Pro.
Hi, nice of you to ask, I've been assembling my new gazebo, but it keeps raining so it's taking a while. I can't wait to be finished, cause then I'll be able to put my new smoker together. Hi everyone!I still using my Washing machine already 27years and don't have this a problem . Always, after an using i clear her, always and don't have a problem 😊!
How are you able to rinse all the gel from the inside of the gasket? I ran my washer twice and there's still a lot of gel residue. I'm worried about it getting on my clothes or hands so I haven't used the washing machine since cleaning with the gel.
I Qasim just cleaning my out and ran across your video. I'm glad you got it out. I seen another video where the guy used pool shock and bleach so that might be a cheaper option.
Most ppl thinks their washing machine (or any cleaning device for that matter) works like magic or something. This is one of the reason why the manufacturer(s) recommend to run a tub clean every 60 or so cycles with bleach/baking soda to prevent escalating issues like mold, bacteria(s) growth, etc… Nothing fancy, just bleach ought to suffice or vinegar for those green folks. Granted, you happen to have a horribly designed silicone bellow/seal hence that prob.
I saw one video of a appliance tech piutting pool shock it still in powder form in the door gasket and allow it to sit/absorb to help clean the mold and kill it so it sanitizes it then removes and wipe clean. THOUGHTS?
I have also came across mentions of pool shock. I do think that would probably work well if you needed to remove the gasket for treatment but I will have to give the pool shock a try one day. 😃
There is mold under the gasket too, and you can’t get to all of those areas. You can pull the gasket away closest to the metal. You end up washing your clothes in mold.
Much more easy: 2 dishwasher tabs, run the hottest program and all mould and soap residue is gone. And leave the door and soap dispenser drawer open to let leftover water vaporize. Also your dryer, never close the door. When you have a heat pump dryer, also open the door to the heat exchanger and let it dry and remove the dust from the dust filter.
One word of caution. All bleach and other acidic cleaners are hard on silicone, as well as grout; mortar; cement. silicone may handle a few treatments but grout in tile can be harmed faster.
After emptying the washing machine, I always dry right around the inside of the flange and the rim of the drum with something that is waiting to be washed. It takes less than 30 seconds, and prevents mould building up in the first place. Oh, and I also leave the door open when the machine is not being used.
I try too but sometimes we’re just close it but we do have a water softener the has less minerals so calcium and soap scum buildup is less of an issue. I heard that lessens the chances of mold as well.
You're absolutely correct, the quality of the treated water definitely has an impact on how quick mold appears. I will be installing a whole house water filtration system in the future.
i've never had mold in my top load washer but i always leave lid open so it can dry inside. wouldn't it be easier to simply leave the door open when not in use? ... then it can dry naturally between loads??
Not to be a killjoy but doesn't this mean the entire interior of the gasket, where you can't reach, is contaminated with mold as well? I don't doubt the Sugelary gel works but I would sure appreciate seeing an SDS for the product. I was surprised I could not find one online. Thank you for the video. It's a step forward for sure. I've been using the same tablets you tried, in fact two at a time. I'll attest they don't remove the mold.
Great point. When I first had this issue a few years ago, I ended up taking the machine apart to replace the entire gasket. The only way to keep the entire gasket in better shape is to leave the door open from the start.
@@btshomedition That's the conclusion I'm coming to as well. I will be replacing the bearings and possibly the spider arm on our machine soon. It just started making a tremendous roaring noise after I ran some Simple Green through the machine. I saw that online as well as a possible solution to the mold problem. The noise could be just a coincidence, having shown up right after I ran the Simple Green. I've been in this machine enough, at this point, I have no fear about tearing it apart. I've heard friends say they had nothing but trouble with the gasket but I was able to remove/install the ring from the front panel of the washer without a problem. It can't be much harder to replace the darn thing.
Nice video! Progressive solutions. From my experience, leaving the door wide open works better than cracked open. Is there a performance difference, other than labeling and price, between the Mold Remover Gel link in the description and the product shown in the video?
Mold and bad smells is a common issue with front load washers, yet they are what most people want and pay big $$$ for. I don’t understand this. Top load washers have been around for over 50 years and don’t have theses issues. They clean just as well if not better and usually are less expensive.
Great point. Depending on the house layout, a stackable pair may be the best option with limited space. Also sometimes the laundry room is right by the garage door so esthetically, it looks better. But as you mentioned from a functional perspective, the top load does the job just fine!
My childhood home has a top loader and even then I grew up with always keeping the lid open. In my current rental, I share a front loader with housemates and they always forget to leave the door open!
@@GoalWalker yup, it’s easy to leave a top loader open as it doesn’t inconveniently stick out into the room. It’s not really necessary, but there’s little downside to doing so.
But you didn’t show the very inside lip!! How did that turn out!? I was on the edge of my seat and then you ended without showing the very inside like you did on the other products.😩 I want to order, but feeling cheated…lol…
Lol. As long as you smear the gel on the mold, it's gone for good. The door is now left open after washes and the mold has not come back. Maybe I will do a follow-up video and show everything. 😁
l always leave the door open after wiping my washing machine but since l had to do buy a cold fill l have got these horrible moulds which l cant understand why?😮😮😮😮
I never had mould in my front loader I wipe it out especially after washing cat products blankets etc. I just use a wet cloth I leave the door and soap container open Also I take out the soap container wash it and clean where it goes.
I tried cleaining it also. BOSCH 300 SERIES, $29.99 replace the rubber Casket. Takes 30 min to replace it. No screws, no tools needed. No worth cleaning it, when it looks like that! I tried for 2 weeks. Wasted a lot of time
That's a great option depending on what machine you own. In my case, the gasket was about $100 and the time to change it would be closer to 1.5 - 2 hours. So great option for your situation for sure! 😎
I'm sure just 50-50 clorox and water would have worked too. What the video brought out is how long any cleaning product needs to be in contact with the seal like a day or more depending how bad and that several applications may be necessary
True Story. If you never let it get this bad, then maintenance is quick and easy. If it gets bad, multiple applications must be done until the problem is fixed!
Everyone should stop the cold water washes, use good detergent, and at least one load of items with chlorine bleach a couple of times a week. I've had a FL washer since 1997 (same washer all these years) following the above and have never seen a speck of mold in it.
@@btshomeditionwe wipe it all down with microfibre towels as well as inside the fold and under the fold where the slits are immediately after every wash and leave the door open for hours. Still get black mold.
You need to just take the entire gasket off. It’s not hard. Then soak in hot water with vinegar. Scrub with toothbrush. Let completely dry before reinstalling gasket. Leave door open. With mold that bad, you also need to take the drum apart and clean it also.
I have already replaced this gasket before and it does take a decent amount of work to take off and reinstall. So this is an option to fix the issue but more importantly, stop the issue from ever occurring.
But will the bulb burn out? My dryer light never turns off if the door is open.
@@danibakeshi Dryer light?
I have no dryer light…….
@@rvo8915 it probably burnt out from leaving the door open! 😂😂😂
😆
Thanks for sharing. Does this work on old stubborn mold?
I leave the door open whenever the washer is not in use. I also pull the detergent/bleach drawer out after each cycle and pour the water out.
Great tips, thanks for sharing!
Thank you Sir. Presently this gel is not available in India. But I try to get through someone coming from US.
Awesome. Glad I was able to share some good info. 😊
@@btshomedition definitely yes
What's better if we consider mould build up- liquid or powder detergent?
The mold is mostly due to condensation but I'll have to do some research to see if one is better than the other.
One word of caution. All bleach and other acidic cleaners are hard on silicone, as well as grout; mortar; cement. silicone may handle a few treatments but grout in tile can be harmed faster.
Thanks for sharing this insight.
Hey thanks so much for the video. Just wondering what is the ingredients in the sugelary gel? I'm not in the US, so can't really big it here
You're welcome, here is what I found for the components: Water, Stearic acid, Emulsogen M, Glycerin, Silica, Sodium hydroxide.
I did try the same tablets and i confirm its do nothing. Ill try the Sugelary mold cleaner...thanks
You're welcome!
After emptying the washing machine, I always dry right around the inside of the flange and the rim of the drum with something that is waiting to be washed. It takes less than 30 seconds, and prevents mould building up in the first place.
Oh, and I also leave the door open when the machine is not being used.
Great practice! Thanks for sharing!
I have had front load washers for 20 years and have never had mold in mine. I do wash my towels with Clorox so it may be the reason why.
Top loaders are less prone to this issue which explain why you probably never experienced this issue.
@@btshomeditionmy statement was about front loaders.
My bad, I don't know why I had top load in my head. Lol. Do you leave the door cracked?
I try too but sometimes we’re just close it but we do have a water softener the has less minerals so calcium and soap scum buildup is less of an issue. I heard that lessens the chances of mold as well.
You're absolutely correct, the quality of the treated water definitely has an impact on how quick mold appears. I will be installing a whole house water filtration system in the future.
i've never had mold in my top load washer but i always leave lid open so it can dry inside. wouldn't it be easier to simply leave the door open when not in use? ... then it can dry naturally between loads??
You are absolutely correct. This has been a great practice that ensures the drum and gasket dry after each use. 😊
I got that active washing machine cleaner and it failed me too.
Those tablets are more of a refresher than a preventer. Since I have left the door open I've had no issues with the mold again.
Yes, leaving the door all the way open will allow the moisture to dry out better. As far as the product, they are the same.
Door wide open and drawer pulled out creates a draft
Basically you have to wipe down after each wash cycle?
Correct. Moisture that cannot evaporate = mold. Airflow or wiping down will prevent this issue.
Look in the inner lip, how does it look
If you apply the product to the inner lip, it will kill the mold as well.
Does is smell really strong?
Smells a little like bleach but I wouldn't say it was strong like that.
Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
I would love to buy that mold cleaner but we don't have it in the Philippines. 😢
Some had mentioned that you can also use pool shock and bleach. Maybe that is available in the Philippines?
After applying the gel..how do we clean it? Wipe it or run a cycle?
You can wipe it then run a cycle after.
Did you try vinegar and baking soda?
I did not but I have a feeling it wouldn't have worked because of how bad the mold was.
I did this before but it messed up my clothes, I’m moving into a newer unit but I noticed there’s some junk
When cleaning the gasket, you always have to make sure that all product residue is gone before washing clothes again to avoid any potential damage.
l always leave the door open after wiping my washing machine but since l had to do buy a cold fill l have got these horrible moulds which l cant understand why?😮😮😮😮
Interesting. Leaving the door open should allow air to flow and mitigate the risk of mold showing up.
Thank you, I’m ordering some of that gel 😊
You’re welcome 😊
@@btshomedition OMG vit’s a miracle! I’ve used it today and it’s like magic. Thank you.
Thank u share this great video🎉🙏🏼
You're welcome!
I never had mould in my front loader I wipe it out especially after washing cat products blankets etc. I just use a wet cloth I leave the door and soap container open Also I take out the soap container wash it and clean where it goes.
Awesome tips, thanks for sharing!
Videos are better without background music.
Thanks for the feedback!
@@btshomedition except this background music, which was totally righteous - loved it.
Didn't even notice it till I saw this comment
Pool shock works with one application.
How did you apply the product?
Is this mold hazardous for health?
That's a good question, I'm not sure.
Did the mold disappear overnight by itself after apply that gel? Or did you whipped it ?
The mold disappeared after using the gel a few times.
I think he whipped it but he did not show the whip 😅
🤩amazing
Thanks
I saw someone use 50% bleach solution and baking soda paste to remove mold around kitchen sink. I think they do similar thing.
Great tip!
Great video~! Thank you~!!
Thanks. No problem!
Also, dry that rubber area after your final wash. Never ever close the door after your wash is finished.
Agreed! 🙂
Between uses leave the washing machine door open w a fan blowing to dry out the interior. In 10 years never had a problem.
Awesome, thanks for sharing!
Hello! I just purchased the gel mold remover. Do you run a hot cycle once the product has been left overnight or are you just wiping it away?
After wiping it off, it surely wouldn't hurt to run a hot cycle. Did the mold go away after leaving it overnight?
Sar i want gel my damage washing machine gasket riper
The gel damaged your gasket?
Use Rin Ala, Akshay
I'm sure just 50-50 clorox and water would have worked too. What the video brought out is how long any cleaning product needs to be in contact with the seal like a day or more depending how bad and that several applications may be necessary
True Story. If you never let it get this bad, then maintenance is quick and easy. If it gets bad, multiple applications must be done until the problem is fixed!
Only one way to fix problem, I’ve had 3, then I got a top loader.
Lol! Isn't that the truth. I think top loaders are the way to go honestly. Will be doing the same on the next purchase. 😎
Everyone should stop the cold water washes, use good detergent, and at least one load of items with chlorine bleach a couple of times a week. I've had a FL washer since 1997 (same washer all these years) following the above and have never seen a speck of mold in it.
1997. Wow. That's a strong machine!
Thanks for sharing
My pleasure, thanks for watching!
We have more mold?
The key is to let air dry out the bellows after each wash. I have not had this issue since leaving the washer door open.
@@btshomeditionwe wipe it all down with microfibre towels as well as inside the fold and under the fold where the slits are immediately after every wash and leave the door open for hours. Still get black mold.
I stopped using fabric softener and also only use powder, this has made my machine stay cleaner, also do some hot washes now and again.
@@JazzyScatit means your door seal still remains moist. If you run your finger inside the gasket ten hours later is it dry or not
What we are going to be doing is leaving the washer door open when no in use
That's a great option for prevention!
I tried everything..just bought a new boot...wish I would of seen this video before
That was the same thing that happened to me as well. This time, I had to find something.
For anyone who want to disassemble the unit to soak the gasket, @JenniferAguiartampa has provided a great procedure to take care of your problem. Thanks for sharing. 😃
It's hard for me, I don't have a sink big enough to soak it, and only have a shower, no tub 😒
(maybe my landlord will do it at his place)
Why not just use the tabs, and WIPE the gunk out with a cloth saturated in hydrogen peroxide, bleach etc ?
Because the mold had gone too far already.
