    Impressive how the audience kept applauding for minutes on end until she came back. Great audience response. Diamanda is a Goddess!

    All a privilege for those who have managed to see Diamanda on this tour. South America does not lose hope of seeing Diamanda in the next few years. Europe will soon know who is the most relevant voice of the music at the moment. Their singing and her presence are the antidote to this time in which art is indolent, light, banal, superfluous. The musical art of Diamanda, besides accompanying us in solitude, helps us to detoxify the senses of all the garbage with which the music press bombards us daily. All The Gods Bless The Queen.

    +Boris Todorov I'm not normally one for RUclips gush-gratitude. The short version is that Diamanda Galas has been one of the most important and cathartic voices for me since I found out about her in 1985. I wouldn't have been able to see her on this concert, so you making it available is a tremendous gift for me. So, thank you n-fold for it. It was truly and deeply "clawing" to be able to hear this. And great that she still sounds as powerful as she did when I heard her in San Francisco an age ago.

      +That One I saw her in San Francisco for the Singer having missed the Plague Mass at the I-Beam (one of the worst mistakes of my life, missing that) "Insane Asylum" that night was the flabbergasting, stunning moment for me. But this concert is even more amazing, and I'm not even there. I'm so glad this video exists.

    How do any of you consider this music? It sounds like she is being tortured. 🤮. People in California have lost their minds! Sold your souls to the devil that’s for sure. So sad you think your functioning in reality.

    • @alexwiththeglasses
      @alexwiththeglasses 3 года назад +9

      She’s not a California thing but international, noted for extreme vocals (see Wiki en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamanda_Gal%C3%A1s). So definitely not traditional vocal style & not for most people. She does have one of the wider vocal ranges in the world, about 3x bigger than required for most songs on the radio.
      IOW don’t chalk it up to California, which in LA is full of pop music & plastic culture. This is more on the avant-garde side of things & not intended to be pretty.

      Your question is disingenuous, because I'm pretty sure, even if you hated it, that when discussing it with friends, you would call a thriller movie's strange audio cues "background music". Some of those get very atonal and off the grid, no vocals, dominated by sound fx. Background "music". That's how we call it. You're right about the people selling their souls to the devil, metaphorically, but as the US constitution says... we the people!
      What I'm saying is that sometimes, when you look deeper than the surface features, what seemed like fire quenches your thirst, and what appeared on the surface to be water, burns. Sometimes a white smile, clean shoes and fancy clothes are a mask to distract from the fact that you're looking at a great ape, an actual ape, and a much more dangerous ape than a Silverback, at that. Not as physically strong, but with similar emotional hormones, and technology and complex language. Most of our political, legal, corporate and religious culture is there to try and mitigate the consequences of this "world's most dangerous combination, worse than even a supervolcano, as far as other life is concerned".
      I do worry about the devil, but mostly about the devil within, and in my most immediate surroundings. Those concertgoers in California in 2017... who knows if they're still alive? Maybe this message will only be read by someone 5 years from now? Maybe there won't be someone 5 years from now?
      It's not really "nihilism". It's just openness to what's possible. It's also possible a new golden age is right around the corner. It's possible this message will do more good than damage. Some of both is all around us. You can't really have "good" without "bad". That desire reflects a misunderstanding of the meaning of good and bad, i.e. they're an intertwined duality. Like 2 sides of a coin, it doesn't make physical sense to talk of one existing on its own. If you try to ignore your shadow, it will bite you in the ass someday. I wish good luck in life to those who read this!
