    The gritty and almost too real way this movie displayed humanity and the world it builds is something I rarely see in any film.
    It sort of ingrained itself into my memory ever since watching it when I was around 10 years old.
    Thank you for making an analysis of one of my all time fav movies.

      @@Cmdr_DarkNite The guy has a long history of being put on projects and then never finishing them. He seriously has a list of these things. He was supposed to do a Robocop reboot, an Aliens franchise movie, and many others... but the projects always never happened. Isn't this like the third time we're getting news that he's working on District 10 again? I feel like this is getting our hopes up for nothing. I want to believe but the guy has a track record for doing this. He was said to be writing or prepping to work on District 10 a couple times in the past too. ...Nothing came of it.

      @@Cmdr_DarkNite I mean. Is Skyrim an amazing game? Didn’t it take a near decade from oblivion to Skyrim? It’s been 11-12 years since the last single player ES.
      Never doubt time. Sure, if he fails? Then eh, he pushed his ideas too much.
      But always hold to time.
      Watch District 10 be the most provocative alien movie yet...?

      @@Zman44444 how about you ask yourself the only question you asked lol. Is Skyrim a good game? Not at all. And time has nothing to do with quality lol Morrowind was written on a two week amphetamine binge and it's story is better than whatever Bethesda came up with in TEN YEARS.

      @@jacobnewcombe5367 see, the first ES game I played was Skyrim. I completely stumbled across the series too. Never heard of it before my uncles told me to buy another game along with Halo Reach. I thought the cover looked neat. Thought I would only play it for an hour or two. But I’m a simple guy. If I can get lost in the game, I’m having fun.

    One aspect I really like that they added in the movie is that the Prawns have somewhat of an addiction to catfood. This is probably a commentary of the rampant CAT addiction in the Cape.

    Just watched it again after a few years. Incredible movie. I feel like Blockamp could possibly revisit this at some point, it's too perfect to not explore further. Nice content bro 👍

    Always enjoyed this film even though it raised more questions than it answered, was hoping for a sequel after seeing it in theatres but it has been a long wait.

    I have seen on movie their homeworld is contained on Another - Andormadea Galaxy

    One of the least humanoid yet among the most symphathetic sapient species
    I genuinely felt bad for them
    Their entire multi generational colonization ship went dysfunctional & their leader caste is dead
    The Poleepkwa worker population left to themselves with no hope for salvation, they have no plan B
    (In a cut scene its explained the species have developed an effective cryosleep method because their biology being differentiated)

      Yeah i have seem people surprised they felt anything for the prawns because they are not very human like. However i am surprised that more people dont make the connection humans have to other animals here on Earth. How we can and should connect positivity to the world around us should be how we can connect to another intelligence species. I felt so sorry for these creatures.

      @@ProjectACHERON I have listened from the extended conversations with the movie designers the prawns most significant detail is their overtly humane eyes, many people instinctually feels for some facial features - this also explained with the concept of Young animals having larger eyes and differentiated facial features

    Is it possible, that the aliens also aren't formed like shrims on their home planet? It could be, that this form of the aliens is just a form for travel in space and use weapons. This would make sence, cause in the movie it is said, that they can heal it and it could be one reason for the uncoordinated behavior of the aliens. What do you think?

    Interesting fact about this movie... It was supposed to be the Halo movie. But they ran over budget and a number of the crew were laid off... So they reworked the script and plot to become a different movie entirely.

      @@ProjectACHERON Yup... 100% true. Peter Jackson was actually the producer because the original plan was to make the movie an adaptation of the Halo video-game. But production fell through because of budget problems and lay-offs. So they re-wrote it and changed it up at the last minute. They used props and items in District 9 that were originally made for the Halo movie adaptation. This is why the weapons looked like the weapons from the game.

      @@ProjectACHERON this was the first time Neil Blomkamp had directed a full length feature film. Prior to this he had only directed short films. District 9 was inspired by one of the short films he made years ago. They literally re-wrote everything and filmed the movie in just 60 days.

    I think a genocide in District 10 is unlikely, but I it seems like a place with a lot less privacy. Sort of like trading better living conditions for less freedom.

      Im guessing because its possible they expected the expedition to be a one way trip and that the colonisation attempt would need to take care of itself, we also know very little of their homeworld, maybe they left for a reason that meant the homeworld would not want to see them again. who know, endless possibilities.

      Considering the ease of which they can convert humans to their own species it seems unnecessary to perform that level of genocide. Especially since we have sufficient technology to disrupt the earth's ecosystem.

    if they got maps of other galaxies then they are multi galactic species. means humans are way way screwed. super smart, super durable, super organized species or all three. like xenomorphs that fly spaceships and shoot guns.
    being insectoid means cheap quick workers, dont need smart ones if your weapons are smart.
    smart ones probably get gundam size mechs er soemthing

      Seems to me the prawns themselves display intelligence enough to be space faring, I don't see a major difference in intellect compared to humans.

      Could you imagine a xeno-prawn!! I would actually love to see one of them however i would also feel so bad for the prawns that had to host it. I really grew attached to the prawns as characters!!

    At 9:55, not all his family turned against him: his wife submitted to him that she realized that he in fact, didn't engage in the alledged questionable acts resulting in the mutations. Otherwise great narrative.

    2 questions;
    Why did they set the story in the past rather than the future? If they arrived in 1982 how come never heard about?
    How are we supposed to believe that one million prawns could fit into that spaceship? It looks big enough to hold a thousand at best.

      They didn't set it in the past. They arrived in 1982 and they've been there for 20 years.
      The mothership is massive, in the movie you see closer shots of it. One where its hovering over the city. A million prawns is definitely realistic on a ship of that sheer size

    Generation Film's "the humans were right" is a better and more logical take on this movie than this overly sensational, leftist, social justice rubbish
