I agree with the general sentiment, Africans or anyone one t that, should not allow the west to impose their culture. The African culture is extremely valuable and unique and if it is washed away Africans lose their identity.

And it's not only for Africa, I'm from Latin America, we speak Spanish and are Catholics, both things came from Spain, Europe, but that is not a reason to submit women. 😭 😭 😭 Imagine people who swear down for Christianity complaining about western imposition in this discussion regarding gender roles... 🤷🏿♂️ 😪 When I watch videos of Africans being interviewed on the street it's very telling the way the West has influenced Africa. Just look at the names of the average African in places like Nairobi, Christian and European first names, it's subtle but very telling the same cannot be said for people in Japan and China.
The traditionalist; nah, the feminist; nah! The sweet spot is btw the man who said he has two daughters in school & Abraham. My 2 cents: most single ladies are independent & you should! We don't have issues with that. The care of the household is primarily the responsibility of the woman...but a man not lending a helping hand Is a no no & the provision for the household is the primary responsibilities of the man (the woman can help a bit & if she wants) Know this ☝🏿 & know peace.
I was brought up very traditional, and I still am. What I was taught by my grandmother is the following: 1. Its my responsibility to make sure my family is provided for 2. Its my responsibility to ensure they are protected 3. I should never ever plan for my wife's money 4. It IS NOT my responsibilty to ensure the house is clean, mine is to ensure there is a house to clean 5. It IS NOT my responsibility to ensure the food is cooked, mine is to ensure THERE IS food to cook 6. It IS NOT my responsibility to ensure the clothes are clean, mine is to ensure there are clothes to be cleaned and worn. But I am a very open minded person, and had I married a woman who wanted 50/50, I would have been happy to adjust, BUT I would require 50/50 all the way. That means no bride price, equally contributing to chores and bills, with no exceptions. It would be stupid to expect a woman to cover 50% of bills and do 100% or even 60% of the household chores, and the reverse is true.
You do realise your grandmother comes from an era that isn't 2024, right? Times have changed. Move with the times. Your grandmother's advice is outdated and downright silly for this day and age.
@sithabelamandlawenkosiwodu6298 if you read my whole comment you would have realised that I am very open to moving with the times. What I am not open to is treating that moving with the times as a buffet where one picks and chooses. As I said, I am happy to discard my grandmother's advice and go 50/50 provided we go 50/50 on everything. No bride price, half half on bills, and 50/50 on household chores. The problem is I have seen few women who actually want that. They tend to want a man who will pay most , if not all, of the bills, but carry half of the house workload and that is just utter selfishness. And no my grandmother's advice is not silly at all even today. As a matter of fact, even I have met a great number of women looking for a man just like me, who knows his role is to provide. The only challenge is that they wanted a provider AND a homemaker. I refuse to be both to someone who is not equally both. Either you give me a role and take yours, or we are equally responsible for all roles.
I consider myself quite progressive… however, there are traits of our culture which have to be considered. Dowry is the inception of the marriage. The community understands that the man has to demonstrate that he can financially take care of his family by paying. Once he has done this first part, within the marriage he can take care of his family not only financially but even with the small things like helping with house chores. The key words in the previous paragraph is “take care”. The women when taken care of, will find it easy to respect the man. The psychological make up of men is respect is central to their identity, just as a woman wants to be loved in her relationship. In other words respect is earned… but it must be there. The issue of when women earn more than the man (will she still respect the man?) this is key. If suddenly she starts feeling like he is not worth her respect…she breaks her own marriage. As a man l personally do not care if she earns more…my job is to take care of her and my family (she has to respect me for that, even while earning more) and l will love her for it.
@@DWThe77Percent l so sympathize with the men who find after taking care… the wife starts earning more and decides she can do better. 💔 To them l say… just let her go. That situation can not be helped at this point. The sooner you come to terms, the better for everyone.
Thank I am here There is a traits to our culture for sure when they come with those cameras it's a problem But our women will not lick earch other behind like they're doing in the west
You're not progressive at all lol 😂. You don't have the ability to understand what is shitty culture and what is culture that should be preserved. Africa needs to come a long way.
Both sides are correct. There are limits. And there are roles. Role for both: respect one another, help one another, lift each other up, provide for the home and the family, be compassionate, understanding, loving etc. Limits: no violence in speech or behaviour, no discouragement, no degradation, no taking advantage of each other, no hatred, no abuse etc.. I hope you all get it. We are all God's children. No child is above another. Like sin, we are all equal in God's eyes. No power over the other. Lift each other up in every way everyday.
Some of these fellas are just lazy and extremely insecure. Don't get me wrong, i too am lazy, and love getting spoilt by my wife 😂 but we accomplish so much more as partners, rather than having a parent/child relationship.
I'm not sure why she is saying men can't multitask and calling men weak. I'm sorry, but it doesn't matter what type of military it is male (at least 80%) and 86% of police officers are male, with over 93% of construction workers being male. If all these roles were left to women, could they handle it? Furthermore, if women want equality, why not combine men and women in sporting events to ensure fairness? This would mean fewer female athletes, as they do not perform like males in most activities. So, please stop complaining, WOMEN, and maintain your standards.

He’s right though
Edith why don't you take that Anthony to the psychiatrist hospital ? 😂😂
The traditionalist dude was too honest. Inside voice, my guy.
😂 not possible!
I agree with the general sentiment, Africans or anyone one t that, should not allow the west to impose their culture. The African culture is extremely valuable and unique and if it is washed away Africans lose their identity.
Identity is important but how about humanity too?
Ok, but if it's that so, then what about their language and their religion? English and Christianity came from Europe, the west has already imposed parts of their culture, but they shouldn't let women chose how they want to live because of culture???? And it's not only for Africa, I'm from Latin America, we speak Spanish and are Catholics, both things came from Spain, Europe, but that is not a reason to submit women. Both continents have other cultural aspects that are more positive than gender roles.
If you want traditional African roots. Remove your clothes and wear the leathered clothes. Get rid of modern things.
Who decides what African culture is? Isn't culture dynamic? Shouldn't we let go of a culture if it's archaic?
😭 😭 😭 Imagine people who swear down for Christianity complaining about western imposition in this discussion regarding gender roles... 🤷🏿♂️ 😪
When I watch videos of Africans being interviewed on the street it's very telling the way the West has influenced Africa.
The care of the household is primarily the responsibility of the woman...but a man not lending a helping hand Is a no no & the provision for the household is the primary responsibilities of the man (the woman can help a bit & if she wants)
Know this ☝🏿 & know peace.
Thank you for your take!
wooow.. i like this
This is just crazy
I was brought up very traditional, and I still am. What I was taught by my grandmother is the following:
1. Its my responsibility to make sure my family is provided for
2. Its my responsibility to ensure they are protected
3. I should never ever plan for my wife's money
4. It IS NOT my responsibilty to ensure the house is clean, mine is to ensure there is a house to clean
5. It IS NOT my responsibility to ensure the food is cooked, mine is to ensure THERE IS food to cook
@@munhumutema8970 I agree with you 💯. All or nothing. Very well articulated.
Culture is beautiful when it's not harmful for sure!
@@DWThe77Percent l so sympathize with the men who find after taking care… the wife starts earning more and decides she can do better. 💔
To them l say… just let her go. That situation can not be helped at this point. The sooner you come to terms, the better for everyone.
Thank I am here
There is a traits to our culture for sure when they come with those cameras it's a problem
But our women will not lick earch other behind like they're doing in the west
Whomever or whatever brainwashed that Best Anthony guy🥺
I pity his offsprings
N what does Islam say about woman’s duty in life..?❤
Interesting..
Look at the marriage and dating statistics in the US, it’s horrible. Do you really want to imitate that?
equal right equal fights
I hope they can take care of all the bills with that mindset. So if she has no man who takes care of her?
Everything edited is subjective! I leave it there.
At dw your presenter is very unprofessional. She has favoritism for the girls. Please let her know she has to be a fair presenter
Many of those guys who quote the Bible probably never read the Bible because they pick half sentences to try to justify their ignorance and ego
21:34 that guy needs help.
Some of these fellas are just lazy and extremely insecure.
Don't get me wrong, i too am lazy, and love getting spoilt by my wife 😂 but we accomplish so much more as partners, rather than having a parent/child relationship.
The husband is not telling the truth
That's bold?
I'm not sure why she is saying men can't multitask and calling men weak. I'm sorry, but it doesn't matter what type of military it is male (at least 80%) and 86% of police officers are male, with over 93% of construction workers being male. If all these roles were left to women, could they handle it? Furthermore, if women want equality, why not combine men and women in sporting events to ensure fairness? This would mean fewer female athletes, as they do not perform like males in most activities. So, please stop complaining, WOMEN, and maintain your standards.
Do t let the west confuse you for God sake were Africans let's be wise for once
True
VIEWER DISCRETION-
As a kenyan, the host of this debate does not represent the views of our country. The tribe she comes from, kikuyu, has always been patriarchal(they even practiced fgm rituals) which contradicts her statements.
Thank you for your contribution but people are free to have their own opinions
Kikuyu has also been matrilineal up until British colonialism, remember all the clans are named after women.
@@theafricangirl5125 those are just clan names...but the real head was the man. Kikuyus allowed polygamy and fgm...as a so called african girl, I think you know very little about africa
6:08 This brother is putting everybody on notice.uh oh
I dont trust this sister sadly
Radio host girl needs therapy 😢
Host is weak and insecure, she is wrong with her concept of "independent"
What should independence mean then?
5:52
We are Africans not Europeans for God sake
Yet you run to the Western world for green pastures and cry in your country because of the corruption. There is a reason for progress, and how women are treated and regarded in the home and society makes a difference. When you put half of your population in a box and treat them like an object to control and own, you cap the value they can contribute to society. Teamwork makes the dream work.
@@nigeriansista This is not about looking for greener pasture, this is an african reality an average african man is polygamous and he take care of his women if not for those weak men of the 19th century that accept strangers religion and forcing their people to convert we will still be living our traditional roles which is better, also an european reality is way worse because ther women are fighting for equal rights so do not compare you are not european
When you run a platform like this, I feel like shouldn’t pick any side. But if you don’t like the answers you get from the people you ask, then look for people who will agree to anything that you believe in. This now feels like those podcasts that are there to make women look stupid.
Modern women learn to respect the men who built this comfortable world you are living in today.
Does the respect go both ways through brother. Furthermore, who gave birth to those men😂
How so?
Why you made women not work and saying this.
What confortable world?
8:02 "...in fact, most of them [African cultures] are matriarchal..." - Edith Kimani
Then one wonders why for more than 400 years, Africa (especially black Africa) has been weak, chaotic, and under foreign powers control...
You are a poor interviewer, your allowed your feminist views to control you in this interview, this had so much more potential to be a better interview. Not bad of a interview but lacking
Do you have a specific view point?
