- The sighting of two White Storks was a bonus. It always surprises me to see how big they are, yet so graceful when they take off. They don’t even have to run before take-off, they just lift off. Stopping off at the Breede River Trading Post was a much-needed pitstop. Then the two of us debating the name Malgas or Malagas but I must say arriving in Malgas (formerly known as Malagas) was exciting, because the new Malgas Pont is operational. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica

Really interesting vlog and lovely footage. Thanks for the explanations in the subs. I heard about the new ferry. Lovely to experience it via you guys. Malgas is a sea bird. Cape Gannet in English. Plentiful along the coast.
Oh thank you for explaining the name Malgas, that is very interesting.
Now I am very very happy. Been waiting to see this. Thank you guys
It was a great experience. We loved every minute.
Very interesting enjoy it
wow the things I learned today! Very cool you guys.
Thanks Cathi.
Wow I never knew that south africa had something like that, very clever. I just love these little towns you go to, because half of these places you travelled to I've never heard of. It's so nice that you show us these lovely small towns I love it. Also to learn the history and names these places are very interesting. Thank you ❤
My parents owned a riverside property at Lemoentuin, downstream of the Malagas Pont. We spent so many wonderful weekends and holidays there when our children were young, and until my parents emigrated to the UK.
Then you might know Ant Dollie perhaps...she and Piet Lourens use to live there on a plot on the river as well
@Des H How interesting! Thank you for sharing that with us. Sonia loves anything to do with oranges and is completely stuck on the name 'Lemoentuin' now! 😁🍊 That entire area surrounding the Breede River is just awesome. We were fascinated by the pontoon and just had to do a quick back-and-forth. It was so cool! 😎🚗
@Deon Kotze Would really be amazing if they know one another! 🤩
@@DustBugsTravel Yes well I probably should have said if he did know them when he visited there. My last visit at Lemoentuin was about 1971. Ant Dolly and Piet is long time under the ground now but Dolly was well known. But like her, that era is long gone...
Hi Deon
No, I don’t think my parents knew them. Sadly, they too are no longer alive. They lived there from the early 80s to 1996 when they emigrated.
My late wife's family use to live about say 2km towards the sea next to the river. We used to go on the pontoon in the seventies and Moxie Dunn who had to pull the pontoon over the river. There were cables from the one side of the river to the other side then. Memories...
That sounds amazing and quite the experience. I'm actually sorry we didn't ever get to experience the pont when it was still pulled by hand from one side to the other. Our short trip back-and-forth was fantastic though and we loved it. There are some beautiful properties all along the river. 🤩
Oh wow! Moxie Dunn and his two helpers. A legend!
Me and my Beloved went down to Cape Infanta For our honeymoon. It had to be short as he was due in Groote Schuur hospital for a quadrupal bypass. We stayed at Mudlark which was right there on the estuary and so beautiful. This was 20 years ago and dont know if thse blessed people re still there. On our way back we did the pontoon. Such fun! And yes it was free then.
How interesting! You guys were quite brave to take a holiday so far from the hospital such a short time before a huge operation like that. We never got to go on the old pontoon, but our short stint on the new one was fantastic, we thoroughly enjoyed it. 🚗😁
@@DustBugsTravel it was a very short honeymoon. Only 3 days excluding travel. Swellendam is not so far and there is hospital there in case of emergency. We were determined to celebrate our wedding and enjoy ourselves in spite of circumstances. Life is just too bladdy short not to
I went across with the old ferry some time ago when it was human powered. They had chains that flicked around the cable to grip and then dragged it across like ants
That's very cool and must've been very interesting to experience. I bet it was much quieter then! 😁🚗
Wow! A Free Ferry!...in South Africa!?
💯!
I know! It's actually quite a cool experience, we had to do the quick back-and-forth. 😁🚗
Malagas may refer to the area of Malgas i think. Malagas Hotel is there and i could not find anything else than Malgas
