- On Wednesday, April 18, 2012, Pat Summitt stepped down as head coach of the University of Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team after 38 years at that position. In that time, she became the all-time winningest coach - in men's or women's Div.I college basketball - with 1098 wins. She has coached her team to 16 SEC championships, taken the Lady Vols to 18 Final Fours and won 8 national championships. Perhaps as impressive, if not more, is her 100% graduation rate. Through all her successes, Summitt is quick to credit both the Lady Vol fan base and her student athletes.

From a UConn fan, nothing but respect and admiration for this great woman! She was unafraid to have her team play anybody, anywhere. To accomplish as much as she has accomplished, to also have a 100% graduation rate is simply remarkable. She is a legend!!!
top 5 coach all-time.....any level, any game....!!
Loved her then...Still love her now. RIP PAT
I love pat Summitt for all the support she gave to each player. It wasn’t only basketball she taught these great women. She taught them so much more. I loved her fiery passion on the sidelines. I miss her terribly. I back Pat.
#prayersforpat Praying for her & her family. She is a legend!
The John Wooden of women's basketball, no one better
I was blessed to call her my friend for 20 years
Nice video. There are really no adequate words to describe her impact on women or men's basketball and the young women lucky enough to have been guided and influenced by her.
Pat Summit almost single-handedly brought about near-parity for women in division ! NCAA sports. Title 9 should have her name on it. tremendous legacy of excellence and progress. a sad ending for a truly great woman.
best college coach period in my opinion...lady vol was da shit, especially in the 90s.
