- Miss Saigon is a thrilling musical by the duo Boublil and Schönberg, that is also responsable for Les Miserables. It is a modern version of Madame Butterfly. The plot tells the sentimental story of a G.I. Chris who falls in love with a beautiful native girl Kim during the Vietnam War. When he realizes that she is pregnant he has to go back home in the States where his wife is waiting for him. In order to allow the father to educate the child, the young woman commits suicide. With his usual orchestration skill, Johan de Meij made a fine symphonic portrait, containing some of the most beautiful songs of the musical. You can hear successively: 'Overture - Saigon, April 1975', 'The Movie in my Mind', 'The Morning of the Dragon', 'Please' and 'I still believe'.

I've played this arrangement dozens of time. I played keyboards. Even today, almost 20 years later, I still know most of it by memory.

かっこよすぎるこのバージョン
This arrangement has some gorgeous orchestrations but curiously omits most of the musical's more well-known numbers (The Heat is On, Sun and Moon, I'd Give My Life for You, Bui-Doi, The American Dream, among others), though maybe that's to showcase some of its more under-appreciated tunes. Some particularly lovely voicing in the brass for the "Please" section (around 10:00-12:45).
